We could play "Spot the culture war"

Sunak has suggested this is how he will lose fewer seats than his party dreads, in the next election. As he will be using it, from what he said, in every constituency where he can spot one, we could keep a running total or each keep a list of our own and see who comes out ahead.

I'm really not sure how he can run for the title of Nasty Party Leader any more obviously. I'm beginning to think he's had enough and would rather be back at his swimming pool counting his money.

Tbh I think a new thread is best as this is about identifying the Tory culture wars.

I second that, Ww

You brought it up WW. Can I just clarify that you brought it up, criticising a section of GN, and then when some of us respond you tell us to go away. How lovely.

*Agreed Galaxy Although an intelligent in depth discussion, from all pov would be very helpful (minus the hate and exaggeration that invariably gets whipped up).*
This is the sort of comment that put me off replying.

Almost did me too Doodledog, but you do realize I'm just quoting in the brackets?

No - wrong.

I suggested that you start another thread, because otherwise this thread would unfairly be derailed.

I would have quite happily contributed to the new thread.

As as for your point about me criticising a section of GN - you are making something out of it that doesn’t exist. It was simply used as an example of how minorities can be hurt by culture wars.

Galaxy Tue 25-Jul-23 16:54:31

I will stay here thanks WW.
I actually think culture wars isnt a helpful term, it makes it seem as if those issues arent important, which of course they are.
I dont think criticising the Tories for 'culture wars' is a winning strategy, it ignores the issues underneath and then people get surprised when the general public dont respond at the ballot box in the way people on the internet think they should.

Blimey Sunak is losing the plot I think.

This is what we’re up against.

The Labour Party, a subset of lawyers, criminal gangs - they're all on the same side, propping up a system of exploitation that profits from getting people to the UK illegally.

I do, yes. I read the bit you quoted and could see how the thread was likely to head, so decided to stay away. My post should have been clearer - sorry.

Crikey am glad you two sorted that out, I misinterpreted both of your posts grin

I guess he is referring to this undercover investigation and it’s findings

Whitewavemark2 Tue 25-Jul-23 17:02:36

Not sure what that has to do with the LP?

I’m not going to RT Sunak but in his desperation he has plumbed a new depth. My political opponents aren’t enemies, or enemies of the people or a ‘criminal gang’. He debases his office and forgets act as PM of the UNITED Kingdom not seek to sow division

No don't apologize (drat! always have to spell the american version), the written word is hard to follow some times, - well I find it so.
It leads me into asking all sorts of questions which don't always go down well smile

Whitewavemark2 Why did you pick out just the first tweet of Mr.Sunak’s thread on immigration? I should imagine that he mentioned the Labour Party as they have consistently voted against the Conservatives over this.

The Illegal Immigration Bill has received Royal Assent.

That’s all I saw?

It is getting a huge negative reaction, both from labour and moderate Tories, and tbh I was a tad gobsmacked when I saw it.

Is this the Chris Bryant who lied in Parliament about NF (sorry I promise you I am not a NF fan, but truth will out) taking Russian money?

Why would anyone listen to a diatribe about 'not seeking to sow division' from this man?

What is your opinion of Sunak’s tweet?

Namsnanny Tue 25-Jul-23 17:55:39

I'm not sure.

But I have very little faith in RS to do anything that will make any difference to anything in the near future.

I feel quite let down by both sides tbh, and feel they play us for fools.

The world has changed, party politics is backward looking.
We have problems of finding out the real truth nowadays, and in that regard both parties are wanting.

Just my opinion, for what it is worth grin

M0nica Tue 25-Jul-23 17:58:08

Varian I read lots of right wing newspapers - and a couple on the other side and i have never once been tempted or felt even slightly persuaded to vote for eithe rof the msin parties.

There is aways something rather condescending and patronising about people who assume people who read newspapers are too stupid to read the papers critically and will mindlessly do whatever that paper (right or left) tells them to do.

What is unsaid is that the person writing things like this, and there are plenty of them, ( who is, of course, always a supporter of more left wing parties) is, by definition defining themselves as so much more intelligent and discriminating than those they look down on.

Assuming many of them belong to the opposition party, it doesn't make that the kind of party anyone would want to vote for either.

There is a very long thread by Mr.Sunak referring to the newly passed immigration bill, this section is being highlighted by those against the bill, I imagine they have their own agenda as do all politicians.

Forgive me Monica, but that’s exactly what you’re doing in this response too. Everybody nails their colours to one mast or another, even if it’s the ‘I’m more discriminating than all of you because I’m independent’ mast.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 25-Jul-23 18:04:53

Let us just remind ourselves that over 80% of those who read newspapers in the UK, read right wing propaganda owned by foreign billionaires or tax exiles.

If you read The Daily Mail, The Sun, The Telegraph, The Daily Express< The Times, etc, you will be instructed to vote Conservative.

There will be no serious criticism of the appalling Tory governments of the last eight years, only pro-Tory propaganda.

They might have thought they were influencing me, but they were wrong.
I’ve voted conservative twice.
