They haven’t got a clue. 30p Lee is straight out of the Trump playbook. 30p Lee is so called as he claimed to be able to make meals for 30p, so no one needs to use a foodbank. Johnson said “ fuck business” when he was asked something about the negative up impact of Brexit on U.K. businesses, so it’s nothing new.

You haven’t seen any of his interviews clearly. Lee helps out in foodbanks and the ppl that run it were teaching ppl to cook. When you could cook a meal for 30p portion. People are making so much fuss about the(few) people coming here in small boats but trust me this is just the tip of the iceberg of what is yet to come.

The problems of war and lack of human rights aside, with Global warming, caused by us all, there will be millions of people who can no longer sustain life in countries where heat, famine and floods will have made it impossible to live. There will be mass migrations, as anyone would in those conditions.

It's beyond time to take our future ability to survive on this planet seriously.

Some of you on here need to check your bigotry and remember that there is nothing illegal about seeking asylum. As for the term 'economic migrants', that applies to anyone who works in a country other than their own. Some on here may be among those numbers. Perhaps if the British could get their heads round the truth that this also makes them 'migrants' and not the 'expats' they like to think they are, we might have more equality in the world. Just thank the lord that none of you are likely to need to flee your country in a flimsy boat.

Well said!!! I totally agree with everything you've said. Many of our own are on the streets, or dying in mould ridden accommodation. They would probably love to to be housed on the Bibby Stockholm with all its facilities. Some of these illegal migrants have turned down the offer - Offer??? there shouldn't be a selection!

What people need are safe legal routes and much faster processing of claims. 73% of asylum claims are granted once their claim has been processed. So they were legal immigrants, not illegal. This Government are doing all they can to stir up hatred for others. I am ashamed that Lee Anderson is an MP, let alone deputy chair of the governing party.

Pre Covid, I worked in a city school that had a large proportion of immigrant children and more arriving daily. The general intake was a mixture of very affluent families and those in extreme poverty. We were told that we should expect a child in our class - year 5 - who had no English. This was not this class's first extra pupil, nor the first with no English understanding.
One child in the class, who came from an affluent family and who was normally extremely polite, shook his head and said, 'Fucking hell, not another one! No wonder the school is doing so badly.'
I had a quiet word but he was right in that it affected the British born kids because so much time was spent catering to the incoming kids that little general education was able to take place and the school's ratings/results were dropping year on year. Staff were leaving in droves even then. I checked their website recently and they are now 'requires improvement' with Ofsted acknowledging the influx of immigrant kids as part of the reason why.

Well if a child "from and affluent family", or indeed any child, was permitted to use language like that in the school, and was only disciplined with "a quiet word", it is quite obvious why the school was failing.
I've worked in inner city schools with many children from hugely deprived backgrounds, all of those children knew that using such language in school was unacceptable. Sometimes when they were stressed or emotionally challenged they would swear, but most of them were completely regretful when they calmed down, expected to be disciplined and apologised profusely for swearing.

The Tories are trying to deflect from the fact that they are not going to “stop the boats” by shoving people into warehouses for years on end with nothing much to do. Yes there are alternatives - set up safe and legal routes, let people apply while they are outside the U.K., they can be fingerprinted, IDed, interviewed etc, if they are refused and rock up in a small boat they can be deported legally. If they are accepted they can travel safely. France have offered to help set a system up there but the government have refused to cooperate, maybe don’t want to be seen to work with the EU on anything. They are trying to coverup the fact that migration has increased since Brexit and the Dublin agreement which meant that they could be sent back has been revoked. This isn’t highlighted.

Thank goodness for a voice of reason - I can't begin to imagine what these people have gone through, to risk everything to try to get here for a peaceful, hardworking life. We've seen, thanks to Brexit, how much we rely on immigrants to support and enrich our workforce, our culture and yet still we have those who think they should all be 'sent back'.
Even if they are economic migrants - don't we wish the same freedoms for our children? Often the same people saying we should turn them away would be disgusted if their children, grandchildren, nephews and nieces weren't allowed to work abroad to enrich their knowledge and experience. The vast majority of immigrants, once processed, put far more back into the economy than they take out, but that fact is just glossed over.
Whatever happened to empathy?
And yes, as above, if we actually made applying from abroad easier, it would save a lot of money, death and distress, and not feed the traffickers pockets.

We have been giving overseas aid for many years and it does little good given the corruption and tribal wars in many of the countries it goes to. Much of it is completely wasted.

The 'Wheeze' is allowing people to think that the money spent on refugees would otherwise be spent on housing UK families. Some of us are smart enough to know this is not true. Too many believe the lies spun by the Tories and their lapdogs in the popular press.

I could not agree less ! My children attended a huge multi cultural primary school, with 46 different languages, I was privileged to serve as a school governor for many many years. At the last Ofsted inspection it retained its “overall good” status and excellent in progress. One of the huge results of my children attending this school is that, without exception, all four of them are tolerant and accepting of all cultures, race, colour and creed.

We have a proud history of accepting refugees, remember Kinder Transport ? Most of us have NEVER experienced war or invasion in our country, nor fear of execution for speaking our views or favouring a particular political party. Frankly, there are times I am ashamed at some of the bigotry exhibited by fellow countrymen/women

Why doesn't he "f--k off" to France or anywhere else for that matter. More and more each day I feel like getting out of the U.K.
Everything all the time is geared towards these migrants and providing for their comforts. I seen the inside of the barge in Dorset on T.V. this morning and it looked very well equipped to me plus looking spotlessly clean.

All that is happening where I live is completely run down High Street devoid of any shops anymore and most of what is left is marked up to be bulldozed for more housing. Another food bank has opened because those who are working still cannot afford to buy food after paying their bills and the food banks want donations because of high demand.
The same homeless people are still on the street and maybe some of them are just begging but many are genuinely homeless and there is an area where at least 10 of them are staying in tents as they have no where else to go.
Many other amenities in the town are closing as they have lost their funding .
All in all it is damn depressing but don't complain as after all when your older you become almost invisible and no longer pay anything in towards the economy.
Politicians they are a waste of time and do very little for any of us.

The deflection of blame from the Tory government to asylum seekers is incredible.
You don't have problems getting a GP appointment, or a national health dentist because of asylum seekers. There isn't a housing crisis because of asylum seekers, or a shortage of school places All of these are the fault of the Tory government The reason they keep emphasising the "great facilities" on the boat is simply to get you riled up, and you are being played.

The money being spent on futile plans for Rwanda and Ascension Island could be spent on training officers to assess asylum applicants sooner. The back log is huge. Surely we can do better than this? Orly - disgusting behaviour and disgusting language is wrong whoever perpetuates it. I am not on mumsnet, but if and when I see such language on Gransnet you may be sure that I will call it out. Frustration is no defence for vile words, we are all frustrated sometimes but most of us can express ourselves without recourse to the language of the gutter.

Most if the migrants are male, economic migrants and should be returned to the land from whence they came. I don't have a problem with genuine refugees seeking asylum, but mist of these immigrants are not refugees. All the people complaining about accommodation on the barges ought to look at what condition British families are living in if they become homeless, or can't afford high rents. Puts the barges into perspective. They also have a choice not to come here in the first place

Anderson is a vile man who panders to the worst in people and language like that should not be used by someone in his position. I didn't defend Rayner's use of language and I certainly won't defend Anderson's either.
For the record, the money being spent on housing migrants rather than getting on and processing their claims is coming from the Overseas Aid budget. so instead of improving the lives of people living in poor countries we are spending the money in the UK. Good wheeze that, I wonder how much comes back to the govt via taxes of one sort or another and it's also a good way of stirring people up. Look how much it's costing you, look at these images of fit young black men in little boats, see how corrupt black lawyers take money to help them get asylum etc etc?? The govt chooses to do that rather than using the overseas budget as it should be used eg to cure trachoma, provide clean water, educate children etc etc all those things that help to make countries better so less likely to have civil unrest, wars etc. IMO if we want to reduce the number of refugees the money is better spent helping people in their own countries than housing them on barges and in hotels in this country!
