An election looms, so I think it is time to look at all the success over the 13 years that we have witnessed from the government.

Well, coming from me you can’t expect fulsome praise, but honestly? If I could find something I would.

Oh I know! If you are wealthy you have done very well - so that can be marked as a success.

Goady thread alert! 😲 Enter at your own risk 😂

Oreo Thu 10-Aug-23 11:02:20

Actually an election doesn’t loom.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 10-Aug-23 11:04:53

I am fully expecting this thread to die a death very quickly.

Why?

Because there are no successes.

Oreo Thu 10-Aug-23 11:07:18

Then why start it?

Hetty58 Thu 10-Aug-23 11:07:30

I can't think of anything that's been a success - but maybe someone can enlighten me?

Whitewavemark2 Thu 10-Aug-23 11:09:07

Oreo

Then why start it?

I live in hope, but no doubt will die in despair😀😀😀.

Because you can’t think of a single thing.

Hetty58 Thu 10-Aug-23 11:11:46

If it's going to be in November '24 (as Sunak suggests) that's not too long. It's a little ray of hope on the horizon.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 10-Aug-23 11:14:27

Oreo

Actually an election doesn’t loom.

Tell Sunak that- he is in full throttle preparation mode. Dishing out cultural war for all he is worth, because he has zero to point to as a success.

I can think of success for the first time in our multi-cultural British Isles we have a PM of a different culture, like the SNP in Scotland.

vegansrock Thu 10-Aug-23 11:20:13

They’ll stir up the immigrant hate and promise to leave the ECHR, along with Russia and Belarus, to reclaim our sov-rin-tee and call a snap election and make it another Brexit election, and appeal to the lowest common denominator voter. Think of all the money we’ll save with no immigrants! Think of all the extra houses, doctors, schools we true Brits can enjoy ! We can truly lead you into the Brexit promised land!

Oreo Thu 10-Aug-23 11:23:56

Huh? Because I can’t think of a single thing? Wrong, I can.
The speedy roll out of vaccines and backing for Astra Zenica.
Since I’m a Labour supporter and confidently expect Labour to win the next election when it comes you won’t hear me praising the Tories but credit where it’s due.
Your OP about wealth told me all I need to know about this thread tho.Enjoy!

👍 definitely a success. We have an Asian Home Secretary as well! Look how successful she has been.

I'll second you Oreo with the speedy roll of vaccines and backing Astra Zenica when Trump was still in denial and telling Americans to drink Bleach. I'm a floating voter who was brought up in an area that is bound to swing back to labour.

Making shops charge for plastic bags was good. I think there has been a reduction of 90% or more now most folk bring their own bags and reuse the plastic bags they've already got.

Pupil premium, meaning schools get more funding in deprived areas.

Both LibDem policies.

Getting Brexit Done.
Sorry, but yes it was important to me that the result of the referendum were respected, despite many in the HoC trying to thwart it with their myriad ‘indicative votes’. We were stymied until Boris got elected. Mind you he squandered that stinking 80 seat majority - in part due to Covid. Then the war in the Ukraine. But hey - we ARE out. Massive plus for me.

Unfortunately, sometimes things in life are the choice of the lesser of two evils. Or five.
I think people often dont know, realise or can forget this.

Unfortunately Brexit is a massive minus for something like 70% of the population.

Legalisation of same sex marriage although I’m sure that would have come about regardless of who was in power. Looking back to when my kids were at school it’s wonderful to know now that if your child is gay they can marry and have children.

MaizieD Thu 10-Aug-23 12:40:09

I don't think that getting Brexit Done can really be counted as a 'success' without severely straining the meaning of the word 'success'.

I would propose that it was an 'achievement' because it undoubtedly was.

Research into the vaccine did, however, began 20 years ago when there was a Labour government. Brexit has resulted in the UK being cut off from a lot of research programmes and we lost the Medicines Agency because of it.

The voyeurism act.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 10-Aug-23 13:13:18

Excellent success in extending the NHS waiting list.

The best ever apparently.

Urmstongran Thu 10-Aug-23 13:13:43

You’d surely all have to agree that a democratic vote (by those who could be bothered) such as the referendum was, needed to be honoured?

Oh, and we’re still not back on the Horizon programme.
