Refugees moved OFF BibbyStockholm barge..
(184 Posts)..due to Legionella bacteria being found! First the barge was highlighted as a major fire risk, now it is a significant health risk. Did the Home Office not do due diligence before spending excessive taxpayer money for this white elephant? Health issues are decidedly dangerous as it is planned to house double the normal accommodation of 222 residents on this barge by installing bunks!
I don't know the timings WWM
The people may have been on board 1st to be fair.
I haven't heard more than that the testing of the water supply on board was carried out on 25 July but the results did not come back until 7 Aug- the day the asylum seekers began to board.
They may not have known till after they were on?
But apparently the supply up to the barge is clear.
It is on board systems that have the problem.

So Braverman and Jenrick knew about the legionnaires last Monday, but were still willing to risk both the staffs lives as well as the asylum seekers.
In my view their actions were criminal.
I can't find any confirmation of this. What was your source?.
I’ll get it
"Letters handed to asylum seekers on the Bibby Stockholm said the contaminated water sample had been taken on 25 July, but
The Independent understands that test results were not sent to private contractors until Monday, and were communicated to the Home Office on Wednesday.
The UK Health Security Agency did not advise an evacuation until Thursday night, and officials said they had gone beyond recommendations by taking everyone off the barge rather than a small group.
The Home Office said no asylum seekers had presented with symptoms of the dangerous legionnaires’ disease, and that the evacuation was a “precautionary measure” while further tests are carried out.
A spokesperson insisted there was no risk to the wider community of Portland from the barge, which is being run by private firms under a wider £1.6bn contract.
Louie O’Leary, a Tory councillor on Dorset Council who opposed the barge plan, said the problem should have been sorted out during safety checks. “I hope it’s not too late for a rethink,” he told The Independent.
“You can’t polish a turd. Most of us said this was not a sensible thing to do, and that’s proving to be the case. It’s costly and complex, and it’s not better than housing people in hotels.”
Asylum seekers were still on board the barge when the Home Office announced the evacuation on Friday afternoon, with charity workers telling The Independent they had not been told anything about the Legionella bacteria or given any safety precautions relating to water.
The former Tory minister said that even before the barge evacuation, the government’s “week of gimmicks” had been a transparent attempt to distract from “operational failures to stop the boats”.
“All they’re doing is reinforcing the fact that the government has failed and the public has seen that,” they added.
Stephen Kinnock, Labour’s shadow immigration minister, said: “The Tories’ asylum chaos is going from bad to worse.
“They cannot even get the most basic things right. Reports of dangerous Legionella bacteria on board come on top of fire safety delays and the revelation that it won’t stop costs and hotel use going up even further because the backlog is so high.”

Oh I’ve just seen your post diamond thank you as I have been looking for ages but can’t find the source of what I read in the middle of the night.
I think I will ask GN to take it down as it seems to be incorrect information, and in these time of hectic accusations I think it is essential to be as accurate as I can be.

I don't know - politicians lie so much, and cover up so much, that it's hard to know the truth anymore.
People are now saying instead of tough guy stuff, the whole farce has turned into a version of "Carry on Over the Channel" lol 🙄
Tbh I would have thought that with such a serious notifiable disease the contractors would have communicated asap, which would have been Monday. And the authorities who found the disease would almost certainly have notified the HO I would have thought, but I have no information to provide as evidence yet.

Just like the rubbish you posted about Nigel Farage not having enough money to have a Coutts account or being involved with Russians. Why post what you “think” you should only post what you know is correct. Even when Farage was cleared of all that you never apologise. It’s no wonder most people just scroll past your posts.

Well, all I know, is that when I contracted it, and it was realised, every relevant place and organisation were notified immediately.
This was years ago, and I would have thought, with technology, the notification process would be even quicker.
But, who knows?
My point has just been made😄😄😄😄
Well, I can only speak from my experience, which was not something I'd like to repeat - it's a nasty illness, causes complications, and kills many.
I've been left with lifelong problems.
Which is why hospitals, holiday resorts, hotels etc are so meticulous about testing for it.

You need to calm down a little and take your own advice and scroll past my posts. I will be more than happy for you to do so and those who apparently already do😄
It is something that in the scheme of things I am very relaxed about.

I have asked for this to be taken down, but I guess they are off for the weekend? So take it as read - it is deleted.

How do you know that most people scroll past *Whitewave"'s posts? Have you been doing some kind of survey?

the evidence seems to be that she did scroll past some of your posts. Too full of indignation to read the ones that apologised for giving false information..
I was puzzled because I'd seen a Guardian report and a BBC report which said much the same as the report DiamondLily posted. I just wondered if you'd seen something very up to date about this.
Though, I must say, I think twitter would have been alight if Jenrick and Braverman had known on Monday

I have had several PMs telling me to do what they do and scroll past your posts. You will soon be talking to yourself!!
At least you had the good grace to try to delete your erroneous post.
I think, tbh, as there are multiple reports of the date the sample was taken and the date the results were given it's reasonable to assume that someone in government knew on the Monday.
It might not have been Braverman and Jenrick - but if not, why not?
And why no action for 3 days?
When this was found at a forge in Birmingham the whole factory was shut down immediately pending a thorough cleaning.

Wow! You have some interesting PMs.
diamondlily - if the test results were not sent to private contractors until the Monday, as you say, and the Home Office weren't told till Wednesday, then maybe the contract isn't very good - and maybe the government should have got the residents off on Wednesday instead of Thursday/Friday... ?
Seems very sloppy however you look at it.

Whatever Primrose says- any responsible Goverment would NOT plan to move anyone on such a facility until the results are back and clear. You WAIT for results, then act- not t'other way round.
Have they resolved the fire hazard issue yet?
The staff must also be at risk.
What a dreadful mess it all is.

What a thoroughly unpleasant and un-necessary post.
Whatever the truth of the timeline I think that there is sufficient evidence to show that the HO knew about the Legionnaires on Wednesday, but still placed a further 6 asylum seekers on board on Thursday.
Everyone was then removed on Friday.
Legionnaires can take up to16 days to develop.

I've known for ages that PMs are used to orchestrate campaigns against other posters.
