Refugees moved OFF BibbyStockholm barge..

..due to Legionella bacteria being found! First the barge was highlighted as a major fire risk, now it is a significant health risk. Did the Home Office not do due diligence before spending excessive taxpayer money for this white elephant? Health issues are decidedly dangerous as it is planned to house double the normal accommodation of 222 residents on this barge by installing bunks!

So Braverman and Jenrick knew about the legionnaires last Monday, but were still willing to risk both the staffs lives as well as the asylum seekers.

In my view their actions were criminal.

You don’t know that!

Just like the rubbish you posted about Nigel Farage not having enough money to have a Coutts account or being involved with Russians. Why post what you “think” you should only post what you know is correct. Even when Farage was cleared of all that you never apologise. It’s no wonder most people just scroll past your posts.

You need to calm down a little and take your own advice and scroll past my posts. I will be more than happy for you to do so and those who apparently already do😄

It is something that in the scheme of things I am very relaxed about.

Perfectly calm thanks.👍

I have had several PMs telling me to do what they do and scroll past your posts. You will soon be talking to yourself!!

At least you had the good grace to try to delete your erroneous post.

What a thoroughly unpleasant and un-necessary post.

I've known for ages that PMs are used to orchestrate campaigns against other posters.

Bit weird! People come in all modes of operation😄 but honestly I think most of us can rise above the silliness. The best thing is if you can get the herd to ignore your posts. You are left alone then.

Farzanah Sat 12-Aug-23 11:11:11

Well Whitewave won’t be “talking to herself”, there’s plenty of us who take notice of her here. GN isn’t an exclusive club for those of just one political persuasion.

I find it hard to understand why anyone was allowed onto the barge without all the health checks completed and results known. Legionella can take a few days to develop so I hope no asylum seekers have been infected.

These pesky “leftie” bacteria out to thwart the government.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 12-Aug-23 11:20:46

Listening to the News Agents, about the “small boats week” and what an awful failure it has been. When you think about it, it could not have gone worse.

Chris Bryant was saying that the strategy of the government is - with the knowledge that they are very likely to be wiped out at the election - is to try to cling on to their core voters by what he called “feeding the crocodile red meat” like the cultural wars, asylum seekers etc, but it is all proving a disaster and eventually they are going to run out of meat and the crocodile will turn and gulp they will be gone😄

Primrose53 there is no excuse for rudeness, or to claim that because you and a few others don’t like the way somebody posts that ‘most’ people don’t read their posts, because that’s not the case. Whitewavemark2 is a long-standing and respected poster who has interesting things to say, whether you agree with them or not is up to you, but get off her back.

Let’s just have a civilised, adult discussion where people say what they think and argue with the content of posts, not target individuals in such a disrespectful way.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 12-Aug-23 11:22:36

The BBC reported this morning that a deep clean is underway and that once a clear test result is received the refugees should be moved back to the Stockholm Bibby in appropriate a weeks time.

westendgirl Sat 12-Aug-23 11:31:25

Casdon, thank you for your post.It is disturbing that posters should be so unpleasant . Surely at our age everyone should be well past the playground gang system.
WWW2 's posts are always well worth reading and I agree this poster deserves more respect.

Just a wee question for Primrose53, and your PM tag team. You scroll past WWM2s posts, so why then have I seen your posts on threads generated by WWM2?

But we do disagree - agreeably😄 as Rory Stewart would say.

The problem is, GrannyGravy, that a deep clean is not always enough.

I am not an expert but my OH knows a fair bit about Legionella, how to deal with it and all the ongoing issues which re-occurr.
Sometimes, in established buildings or something like this barge, whole systems have to be put in place including pumps etc (it can all become very complicated and would take too long to repeat the explanation he gave me yesterday, if only I could remember it as well ........).

So there may be a quick fix or possibly not.

Oh yes, and when you combine the 'leftie bacteria' with the 'health and safety gone mad' stuff it's out of control, and probably a plot by Corbyn too.

diamondlily - if the test results were not sent to private contractors until the Monday, as you say, and the Home Office weren't told till Wednesday, then maybe the contract isn't very good - and maybe the government should have got the residents off on Wednesday instead of Thursday/Friday... ?

Seems very sloppy however you look at it.

Well, I relayed my experience (in 1986), and just lifted the article from the Independent.

It does seem sloppy, because LD can be and often is, lethal.

Especially if your physical resistance is low.

No, the contract doesn't seem too good, but we have seen this, endlessly, during Covid, with the government and private contractors falling down on the job.🙄

To be fair, this could have happened at any hotel, or centre, because it's not about barges, it's about doing the normal health checks with a duty of care towards "guests" and staff.

DiamondLily Sat 12-Aug-23 12:56:02

It can get complicated, and be a long process to clear the tanks and water pipes:

The laws relating to Legionella:

The two main pieces of legislation are the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) and the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulation (1994). Organisations that fail to comply with HSE ACoP L8 The Control of Legionella Bacteria in Water Systems may be prosecuted under either of these regulations.

But, we're all entitled to different opinions, and there's no need to take other opinions seriously. It's a forum section, about politics - there's no actual right or wrong, just different views.

It is dreadful really. Six more refugees were put on the barge on Thursday, after the news was known about the legionella.

There will be staff on there too!

It is totally unacceptable

Sorry but NO- many things go way beyond 'different views' and are 100% wrong.

At the risk of disagreeing 🤔 may I say:

Views are just that - views aired on a chat forum.
Just because someone thinks someone's else's views are 100% wrong doesn't mean they're not allowed to air them.
Or that they are 100% wrong, in fact.

It’s an open forum, and people are entitled to put forward any views, even though some of them are shocking to other people. What is completely unacceptable is to make unpleasant personal remarks or display racism.
It does drive me mad when people post inflammatory, inaccurate or made up information, I know that’s probably my issue though because I’m a checker.

Well, not trying to be funny , but what you consider "wrong", someone else might consider to be right.

Everyone is entitled to a view, within GN guidelines - no one is the arbiter of opinion.

You don't have to agree with someone. That's life.🙂

If it is Legionnaires disease that can happen in the best hotels anywhere. My friend visited a very posh hotel in Shropshire and just after she got home they had it and had to notify her.

It’s also common in swimming pools, hospitals and spas. Not sure why people are calling the Government names like “hopeless” and “incompetent and heartless”.

It is not common I swimming pools, hospitals and spas because they have a legal responsibility to check and to keep records which show they have checked. This is why the smarter of us are calling the government incompetent and hopeless.

Hospitals and care homes are the most likely places to get Legionnaires disease. Check it out yourself.
