I'd never ask people where they are from, that is actually quite rude, sometimes the answer is "Birmingham" and sometimes the answer is "I don't know" because they do not know their ethnic origin. Many people don't

I have been asked thousands of times where I am from and never once been offended. When we go abroad most people ask where we’re from. I have even been asked what part of Australia I’m from ….. I’m not but we usually have a good laugh! I think it’s good to take an interest in people and where they’re from.

You must be a very sensitive soul if you think it’s “rude”. 😉

Inaccurate again Nicenanny3. The Illegal Migration Bill passed through the Commons, was rejected by the Lords, and is now subject to court of Appeal because it was ruled unlawful. Labour don’t agree with it, but that wasn’t the reason it hasn’t progressed.

Actually the Illegal migration bill has been passed by Parliament, and received Royal Assent in July this year. Rwanda, blocked by judges is awaiting appeal later this year I believe.

Of course. The difference is that in the UK they’re not rounded up and exterminated.

My current rescue was brought to the UK by a charity from Southern Ireland, where rescued dogs are kept for only a few days before being euthanised.

I get where you're coming from. My closest friend is all about her dogs and other dogs.

She's been to Romania and Greece, volunteering in rescue centres out there, and raises funds to bring dogs over here.

I don't quite get it, I think we've got enough rescue dogs over here anyway, but it's her passion and her money that helps, so up to her.

Right. We mainly choose local equine charities and we prefer to give feed, salt licks, hay and tack rather than cash.

And some of us choose to help refugees (and also cats)

Surely someone, somewhere has asked where you are from or where you live? Waiters abroad always ask “german? French?English?” So they can give you the correct menu. Would that be classed as “rude”. 🤔

Well it all helps. I think I support local equines by paying (to me) eye watering amounts for my DD and GD to go on outrides..ye Gods, the prices are horrific! 😳

Can anyone understand why every photo seems to show boatloads of young men? What is happening to their families, their children, if they are fleeing such terrible conditions?

You’ll be pleased to know that someone did attempt to escape with a small child but the child drowned off the coast off Tunisia….that’ll teach’em won’t it….

That’s one person’s opinion and yours and mine are equally valid.

I notice you didn’t answer my question about whether you have ever been asked where you’re from or where you live. I cannot believe there is a person alive who has not been asked that whether on a plane, a bus, coffee shop, hairdressers, on holiday, when you move to a new area etc.

Maybe some people just give off negative vibes or seem so uninteresting that people don’t know how to approach them. Wherever we go my husband says “who was that talking to you?” And I say “never seen them before in my life.” 🤣🤣

It WAS correct first thing this morning when I posted it but has altered as the day progressed which is always the case with any news item. I have explained this several times.

It doesn’t surprise me - so much nastiness when so many agreeing with 30p Lee that they should all f*ck off.

As I said

Some people were born in this country and are "from" here, some people have migrated here permanently and some people do not know their origins. Some people because they do not know a birth parent to ask them and some who simply do not know their origins the same way many of us don't because they can't trace their ancestry

And as the article explains it makes many people feel like they don't belong here despite living and working here or even having been born here. As if having Spanish great grandparents should mean I belong in Spain... Actually I am British thank you

Asking someone who is on vacation is different as is asking people what language they speak

But people who have moved to the UK to live and work and have permanent residency are now "from" here and there is absolutely no reason to ask what their ethnic origins are at all
