The RNLI is funded by donations by the British in order for them to rescue those in difficulty in British waters. No wonder donations are dropping!

I don't know that they are. They drop at times, and then rise again.

The RNLI is there to protect anyone in difficulties - they cannot cherry pick who to rescue.

I'm actually not, I know her better than I would like now living across the road... But that was the first time I spoke to her on a Facebook post collecting for charity

I am probably the only one who is polite to her in our road sadly

Well, I would guess, for most people, their lives and the lives of their family, do matter most, in their heads.

Why wouldn't they?

A main character is a person who believes they are special and important and right in all things. They only love family who support them unconditionally. They cannot apologise, take responsibility or walk in anyone else's shoes

Sorry. I don't get that family arguments, and who's supporting who in a family, to have any connection with immigrant opinions.

Primrose53 of course the people working in the NHS are legal, there are huge fines for employing someone who does not have leave to work in this country but what you do not know is how many of them came here to seek asylum, were granted it and are therefore now able to work. The NHS and Social care employ 3 million people, you can be certain that lots of them either came here as refugees or are the relatives of people who came here as refugees. They will be represented across the whole spectrum of the workforce from consultants to cleaners, nurses to porters, just open your eyes when you are next in a hospital!

I think you need to open YOUR eyes actually. I listed the various consultants and nurses from other countries who we have seen in recent weeks just a couple of posts ago.

You consider it ironic that she cares for dogs overseas but not humans arriving from overseas. That’s her choice. Some of the animal charities I support work with animals, mainly equines, and their owners abroad.

Many came as refugees and had asylum granted already. We don't stick them on dirty disease ridden ships forever

Also what about all the other ex refugees doing jobs you can't manage without? Your toilet roll as just one example, went through many hands before it got you. There are thousands of people involved in every moment of your existence from making, delivering, stocking and checking out each individual item you use to maintaing and cleaning spaces you inhabit.

Many people have strong feelings about helping our own homeless before housing and feeding asylum seekers. I am one such person. And not a ‘main character’.

Obviously it suits some UK press and individuals to ignore the French coastguard presence which was first on the scene. The Dover RNLI lifeboat attended because it was already nearby. Good on both services for saving lives at sea. Bad on those who earlier misrepresented the situation, doubtless for anti-EU reasons. Sad for those who died.

I think I've lost the plot of this argument.

There must be hundreds of charities advertising etc in this country.

Some involve animals of every type.

Some are for home grown charities for those people in this country.

Some are health based - donations to support research etc.

Some are for refugees, disaster areas, starvation abroad etc.

But, one thing they all have in common is that people are using THEIR money, and can choose who and what they support.

One charity donation is no more worthy than another, and no charity donation means anyone wants to be a star in their own show.....🙄

Yes. I usually ask people where they are from and we have some very nice chats. I assumed the Egyptian consultant had not been here long as his English was very poor although he tried his best. The Portuguese nurse has been here several years and we discussed our holidays there.

I agree. That barge was perfectly ok....but basic health checks should have been carried out.

Once that's sorted out, then there's no longer a problem.

I'd never ask people where they are from, that is actually quite rude, sometimes the answer is "Birmingham" and sometimes the answer is "I don't know" because they do not know their ethnic origin. Many people don't

My current rescue was brought to the UK by a charity from Southern Ireland, where rescued dogs are kept for only a few days before being euthanised.
