Should the President of the Spanish FA resign

Or not?

I think he should, then I think he shouldn't.

Should he be forgiven in the light of the excitement prevailing at the time? Or not?

Considering his role as President of the Spanish FA his actions were totally inappropriate. Hopefully this will be a wake up call but I haven't heard an apology yet.
Like Galaxy I am averse to trial by media.

I've watched this a couple of times. Horrible. However... one thought occurred to me was that the young lady's arms were free and she seemed to offer no resistance. I guess many were caught up in the euphoria of the moment/occasion. Not an excuse. Just a thought.

Gosh amazing that you see it that way Felicititious I do hope grabbing your tackle when excited doesn’t become a thing
Hope he gets the boot 😂

Oh, totally uncouth, I agree, and I'd knock the block off any man in my family that did that.
BUT, it was a moment in time - was it terrible timing, in that he was ....ahem.. adjusting himself when the goal went in?
Probably not. It was probably a horrible gesture, but I've seen that same (ridiculous) gesture so many times, I actually think they don't know they're doing it half the time.

So no, I still don't think it's a sacking offence. Stupid, definitely. The kissing thing, I would have had more truck with, but having seen it ad nauseum, I truly don't think there was anything in it.
Had I been the recipient how would I have felt??? Well, I'd have laughed, but I can understand I would be in the minority.
If she feels it was inappropriate, then he should apologise, and mean it.

I may be wrong, it just feels as though genuine expressions of joy have been twisted into something dirty.

And honestly, I'm usually a pain in the bum in attacking what I perceive to be misogynistic or sexually abusive men.

Mollygo Fri 25-Aug-23 19:49:06

I’ll see what she does. Was it unacceptable? IMO yes.
All the excuses about -excitement, spur of the moment, Spanish men . . .
Typical

Hithere Fri 25-Aug-23 19:57:20

The kissing is sexual assault due to lack of consent

It is that easy

Suggesting things like "she could have pushed him, moved, etc" is blaming the victim

If this wasn't recorded - she would have been labeled as opportunist, blackmailer....

Kandinsky Fri 25-Aug-23 20:02:04

They’d just won the World Cup & it was done in the company of 1000’s.
It was a kiss of ‘bloody well done!’ - nothing sexual.
My opinion on it anyway.

BlueBelle Fri 25-Aug-23 20:04:23

He calls it a ‘consensual’ kiss
He added: "It was a spontaneous kiss. Mutual, euphoric and consensual. That's the key. A consensual 'peck' is enough to get me out of here?"

Jenni Hermoso says she did not consent to be kissed by Spanish football federation president Luis Rubiales - as 81 players confirm they will not play for Spain's national team until he is removed from his post.

Please let me know when your boss or supervisor kissed you in the lips to celebrate a milestone

Kandinsky Fri 25-Aug-23 20:17:39

I think winning the football World Cup is a bit different to hitting your monthly sales targets.
It was a massive achievement & extremely emotional. If he’d kissed me like that I wouldn’t have given it a 2nd thought tbh.

Hithere Fri 25-Aug-23 20:22:10

I get it, consent is optional then, depending on how big the event is

M0nica Fri 25-Aug-23 20:27:43

Kadinsky my jaw dropped so far when I read your post, I now have a bruise on my chin.

At no time, in no way under any circumstances, not even after winning the world cup, should a man ever kiss a woman on the lips, unless he is in an intimate relationship with her, or is a close relation and has her consent.

What other things can he do when his country wins the world cup, run his hands lightly over her buttocks or down her thigh? Possibly place a hand on her (clothed) breast. Exactly where is the line to be drawn?

Iam64 Fri 25-Aug-23 20:28:00

Spain’s women’s football squad have announced they will not play for their side until Rubiales is fired. Jenni Hermosillo said she did not consent to being kissed by Rubiales following the cup final.
I’ve just seen Lauren James interviewed. She supports the do?! Why do they see a man imposing a lip kiss after crotch grabbing ok?
Why do some posters sugges because Jenni Hermosillo kept her arms by her side, that indicates consent?

Yes I totally get what you’re saying, but I think a kiss in the heat of the moment is a bit different to running your hand up the inside of someone’s thigh, or similar.
But I also get my opinion is a minority one & probably wrong, but it’s just how I see it.

He also tapped her on the bottom as she walked away.

His actions speak of someone who is a habitual sexual harrasser or someone who is, for some medical reason, losing his inhibitions.

Whatever the reason, he should resign.

I haven’t seen the kiss however, if men grabbing/touching their genitalia through their clothing is a sackable offence there will be an awful amount of unemployed men.

Grannygravy I agree with you, "adjusting" springs to mind. Also women who adjust their breaststroke to ve more comfortable, or tug on a bra. It happens.

Retread Fri 25-Aug-23 20:45:15

Not breaststroke obviously! ... breasts to be more comfortable...

Autocorrect be damned.

Farzanah Fri 25-Aug-23 20:50:22

If the Spanish FA President had been a woman I cannot see her kissing a winning male team member on the lips.

To think that this incident was in any way acceptable means that we have a long way to go before sexism is consigned to history.

welbeck Fri 25-Aug-23 20:51:04

i find some of these comments and attitudes astonishing.
if that player was your D/GD, would you honestly tell her she is making too much of it ?
that way lies LC/NC.
she offered no resistance? what does that sound like !
what is the age limit for juries now...

Hithere Fri 25-Aug-23 20:53:12

Next is.... her skirt was too short!
She was drunk!

She was drunk!

She asked for it by winning!

Yessss
It’s astonishing, like we were discussing the “casting couch’ before me too

Living in Spain I've had many a kiss on the lips over the years. Mostly unwanted. I managed to invent a neat manoeuvre by coughing and moving face swiftly to the left to avoid lips.

I think he'll have to resign. Social Media has him by the short and curlies and he'll have to go

Hithere Fri 25-Aug-23 21:06:46

Soccer player Dani Alves is accused of attemped rape and also playing the "consent" game
