He’s now claiming he asked for a quick peck and she agreed. I’ve seen a brief video of him repeating he won’t resign. The men in the audience applauding enthusiastically. The few women not.
A handshake and a quick 'hug' of the shoulders - which is usually acceptable to both men and women - is all that's 'necessary' if someone feels compelled to show emotion at a victory.
A 'quick peck' is not a full-on kiss on the mouth.
Would a woman grab a male footballer's head, kiss him full on the mouth and pat his bottom as he walked away? I doubt it.
As long as people are prepared to make excuses for this kind of male entitlement, the more it will continue. And to those that are excusing his behaviour - are you OK with someone like him doing that to your daughter, or granddaughter?
Kissing someone on the mouth is an intimate gesture, it is not something you publicly force on another person.
The sheer arrogance of him saying he will never resign is all part of that typical male entitlement. The men in the audience clapped because they want to be able to keep hold of that entitlement. Shame on them. If my OH had clapped, I'd have had serious doubts about his integrity. He thinks it's appalling. He's Swedish - Swedes are, supposedly, in popular culture, thought to be very laid back about 'sex' in general (which is something of a myth anyway)... he thinks the man crossed the "boundary line".
He did.
