Gavin Williamson told to apologise and undertake behaviour training for bullying the former chief whip. News out about millions spent by Education mistier to refurbish her office. Chris Pincher looses appeal against his 8 week suspension (probable further bye-election) PM tries to reject evidence that while Chancellor he reduced school rebuilding spending needed for 400 to 100 then 50 schools, reducing spend from £765m to £ 416m. Jeremy Hunt declared on Sunday TV the schools problem to be addressed but no new money available - so another raid on school budgets?? Lots of people reminiscing on Johnson’s 40 hospital promise, one of which claimed by Hancock, now exposed as suffering from the concrete scandal!

And it just goes on and on and on. How can they hold their heads up?

Fleurpepper Mon 04-Sep-23 18:13:34

Jillian Keegan's language, wow! What an example to kids ... we all get frustrated and angry at times- but you'd expect the Education Secretary, never mind teachers and head teachers- to know some language is NOT appropriate!!! And when on public TV too!

ImogenMac Mon 04-Sep-23 18:30:14

Agree. And in her follow-up statement arrogantly suggested she needed a well done pat on the back.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 04-Sep-23 18:48:07

Williamson just apologised to the House. Didn’t sound very contrite to me.

Where did the "Sir" come from????

Could it possibly have been a result of Gavin Williamson bursting into Boris Johnson's office at the wrong time???

choughdancer Mon 04-Sep-23 20:01:48

At least they've not failed on one thing; the rich have continued to get richer and the poor, poorer throughout their administration.

I couldn’t possibly comment 😇

They’re a shameless, incompetent, arrogant, useless bunch of egotistical idiots

CvD66 Mon 04-Sep-23 20:15:30

So just where do they go from here? If the rumours are true and letters of no confidence are going in to depose Sunak, one has to ask: For whom? There is a dearth of talent.

What is this obsession with getting people to apologise? Discipline is not the same as bullying. If people are lackadaisical in their attitude, telling them to pull their socks up is the right thing to do. It's this sort of attitude which is causing the decline of standards in this country. Some people won't do their job properly unless there is someone standing over them with a whip.

Are you trying to be ironic? Bullying is never acceptable. It’s a sign of an incompetent, weak person.

What an odd belief Curtaintwitcher, that some people need whipping to do their job. That used to happen to slaves

Are you equating discipline with bullying. You'd have been no good in the armed services. They are two completely different things.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 04-Sep-23 21:05:07

In my eyes apologising isn’t about discipline, it is about good manners and the ability to show empathy

No, I’m talking about Gavin Williamson’s behaviour, which is what this thread is about? Discipline and bullying are different things altogether, I agree.

Currently watching Sky News. Now, they always have two journalists on the news review in the evening, one from each side of the political spectrum. But I’ve realised that recently it’s difficult to know which newspaper is being represented by which journalist because no body seems to be able to defend the government about anything these days.

Seems like they aren’t “getting all the big calls right “ any longer if they ever did,. . How are those 5 pledges, or promises , or whatever they are now- suggestions ? Not “delivering for the British people “ , that soundbite seems to have disappeared.

I hold my head in my hands, it gets worse, but look at the opposition, there isn’t one, never known it so bad with such weak self serving people of no integrity. Couldn't vote, no one any good.

And she later blamed the young man who was interviewing her for HER foul language!

Joseann Tue 05-Sep-23 07:05:46

Do you think she goes home and turns the air blue for the first half of the evening?!

It's Gillian by the way, unless you're thinking about her coming tumbling down!

Whitewavemark2 Tue 05-Sep-23 07:20:23

Whistleblower (civil servant) said that Keegan knew of the issue for quite some time and months ago announced that they needed to keep a lid on it for a year or two and “then it will be someone else’s problem”

Well at least she is right about someone else’s problem - who on earth is going to vote this lot back in?

Grantanow Thu 07-Sep-23 07:33:27

Whipping in the Commons is nothing to do with getting MPs to do their job - it's entirely about getting MPs to vote the Party line rather than according to what they know to be the right way. Threats and rewards are all part of the process and it is said that violence and threats of violence were used in the past. There is a story of one Tory Whip in former times kicking someone to get him to the lobby to vote only to find that he was an ambassador visiting the Commons - quite an embarrassment!

Whitewavemark2 Thu 07-Sep-23 07:54:49

The typical family is set to be 4% poorer in 2024/5 than in 2020/1.

This have never happened in living memory.

Resolution Foundation.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 07-Sep-23 07:57:59

More embarrassment.

“The Government has quietly admitted post-Brexit checks will increase inflation but says it will be “minor” at 0.2%

Meanwhile the same Government is telling us CPTPP membership - worth just 0.08% to UK GDP “is the biggest trade deal since Brexit”

Ladyleftfieldlover Thu 07-Sep-23 08:03:47

Just to remind us all - we still don’t know why Charlotte Owen, a young woman with little experience, was sent to the Lord’s on B Johnson’s resignation list. She is now there for life and we don’t know why,
