In my eyes apologising isn’t about discipline, it is about good manners and the ability to show empathy

No, I’m talking about Gavin Williamson’s behaviour, which is what this thread is about? Discipline and bullying are different things altogether, I agree.

Currently watching Sky News. Now, they always have two journalists on the news review in the evening, one from each side of the political spectrum. But I’ve realised that recently it’s difficult to know which newspaper is being represented by which journalist because no body seems to be able to defend the government about anything these days.

Seems like they aren’t “getting all the big calls right “ any longer if they ever did,. . How are those 5 pledges, or promises , or whatever they are now- suggestions ? Not “delivering for the British people “ , that soundbite seems to have disappeared.

I hold my head in my hands, it gets worse, but look at the opposition, there isn’t one, never known it so bad with such weak self serving people of no integrity. Couldn't vote, no one any good.

Whipping in the Commons is nothing to do with getting MPs to do their job - it's entirely about getting MPs to vote the Party line rather than according to what they know to be the right way. Threats and rewards are all part of the process and it is said that violence and threats of violence were used in the past. There is a story of one Tory Whip in former times kicking someone to get him to the lobby to vote only to find that he was an ambassador visiting the Commons - quite an embarrassment!
