How about signing and sharing this petition:

'Call an immediate general election'

I don’t like any of them but will feel I have to vote. I am really quite concerned about it.

Granmarderby10 Fri 06-Oct-23 00:05:50

I want the NHS and education fixed to recoup what resources it should have had and possible advances we would have achieved but for the diasterous austerity measures inflicted since 2008 (covid not withstanding) - because that is another story altogether and one of incompetence and failure to prepare.
Then have it enshrined in law that these services are maintained to the highest standards possible and by experts not politicians.

That way who so ever “gets in” can’t naff it up again!👹
Education and Health are the building blocks.

Attlee Fri 06-Oct-23 00:18:36

We've signed.
I was beyond touched, when picking our grandchildren up from a local community centre, that the poorest in our city had so nicely put pairs of shoes together and offered free plants and tomatoes to take.
We are better than this.

DiamondLily Fri 06-Oct-23 08:08:40

I think this may be an "ABC" election - anyone but Conservative.

Tactical voting will be something many will use.

My ward will never vote Labour in, so I'm hoping that the LDs are running our Tory MP close enough to make it worth while tactically.

ronib Fri 06-Oct-23 08:16:42

At present, Labour looks to gain huge numbers of mps in Scotland although with only a 37 percent turnout, it might not follow through to the general election? The SNP is looking out of favour. The Conservatives are nowhere.

westendgirl Fri 06-Oct-23 08:56:11

Signed. The sooner they go the better.

LauraNorderr Fri 06-Oct-23 09:01:27

For those who say they won’t vote, please bear in mind that if reasonable folk don’t vote then the decision is left to the extremists on either side of the political spectrum.
Don’t leave it to chance, think hard and cast your vote for who you think is the least scary party.

nanna8 Fri 06-Oct-23 09:11:36

Swap you - you can have our lot, they are a right shower. If you think the opposition will be any better, good luck !

You are more than welcome to our current government, nanna8. You can collect them today if you like.

I don't understand people who say there's no one better to vote for. They can't be worse. Surely we need to give someone else a chance.

Chestnut Fri 06-Oct-23 09:41:18

I'm another homeless voter who will be joining the 'Deep Despair' party. What has happened this century? The USA is in the same situation, a choice between someone who might be running the country from a prison cell and an old man who can't even stay on his feet. Something needs to change.

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 06-Oct-23 09:53:43

I’m currently reading Rory Stewart’s book, Politics on the Edge. I am not a Tory but Stewart could have joined any political party to be an MP. He chose to be a Tory and when we read his account of how it all works in Parliament with Cameron as PM, it is truly depressing.

Urmstongran Fri 06-Oct-23 10:08:42

I’m a floating voter. I will vote. Just no idea who for, yet.
Labour stormed it at the Scottish by-election yesterday! I get the impression the SNP are a busted flush.

I would definitely give the Greens a chance, but they just aren't up to speed on so many vital issues in terms of running the country. Plus there aren't enough of them to take things forward.
I will not vote for the party which will make things worse for my family. (VAT on x 4 school fees). I could vote for the Lib Dem porn tractor replacement here, but then the Conservatives would win anyway.

Even if they didn't win the seat I've always thought that voting for a minority party at least adds to the number of people they can see voted for them and that may give them some encouragement for the future..

I think it's a better option that spoiling your vote or not voting at all.

Joseann Fri 06-Oct-23 10:40:49

Thanks MaizieD, I might.

Parsley3 Fri 06-Oct-23 11:04:58

I agree.Once upon a time, the SNP was the minority party so it is not true to believe that your vote will never count and look at the Tory Red Wall victories in the last GE.
People should exercise their right to vote, even if it is for the Monster Raving Loonies.

henetha Fri 06-Oct-23 11:11:26

Yes, I agree. Even with my difficulty in deciding who the devil to vote for, I will definitely vote for someone. I regard it as both a duty and a privilege.

MaizieD Fri 06-Oct-23 18:07:36

The petition is moving fast now, it was on 90 odd thousand when I posted the link yesterday, 125,000+ now and ticking up fast

MaizieD no completely forgotten about the repeal to the LibDem fixed parliament act…. But arguably five years guaranteed power no matter what isn’t much of a change?

"five years guaranteed power" is not the same as "no longer than five years"

ronib Fri 06-Oct-23 19:16:44

Please explain Elegran … 5 years is 5 years

JaneJudge Fri 06-Oct-23 19:36:20

Well I've signed and I now realise I have moved to a different constituency than I thought I had!

Elegran Fri 06-Oct-23 19:45:43

"Five years guaranteed in power" means that they cannot be closed down before the five years are up, because they are guaranteed those five years.

"No longer than five years" means that even IF the government manages to survive for five years, they will then be closed down anyway. That doesn't mean that they can't be closed down before the five years are up. There are ways of getting rid of an unpopular government.

nadateturbe Fri 06-Oct-23 19:46:18

I think it's a better option that spoiling your vote or not voting at all. agree MaisieD.
Also disagreeing with one policy isn't a good reason not to give Labour a chance. Its really the only way to get rid of this present government. If people don't do that, Conservative government will think they can do whatever they like. It's pretty obvious.

Hetty58 Fri 06-Oct-23 19:50:59

Signed - it made me feel a bit better. I'll vote for the lesser of two evils every time. It's not as if we have anything to lose. I just can't wait!
