Some much needed good news

Labour won the Rutherglen and Hamilton West seat with a huge 24% swing.

We can look forward to repeating this all over the country in the GE and get shot of this corrupt, lying, cheating and incompetent government.

Didn’t think the SNP were that bad? But you are entitled to your view … the same thread is still on this forum however.
Sensitive souls best avoid news and politics?

GrannyGravy13 Sat 07-Oct-23 08:44:03

I think it was the

blue tie tied tight round Tory voters necks stopping the blood reaching their dead brains

comment that some are found offensive…

Whitewavemark2 Sat 07-Oct-23 08:53:36

So the Labour Party is beginning to announce it’s planned policies before the GE.

They have started by focusing on the housing crises which has got so bad over the past 13 years. Housing has never been in such crises, and we are all aware how difficult it is for our grandchildren’s generation to find decent affordable housing to rent at enormous cost, let alone buy.

The boost will be to affordable housing. This will be done through planning by writing in the planning law a set target for affordable housing, together with guidance to developers and councils. Targets will be set and the aim is 300k new houses p.a.

Dream on ….

I’ve asked for the original thread to be withdrawn, as it appears some sensitive souls have had a fit of the vapours, and far be it from me to cause such upset

You just can’t stop can you.
This comment is as insulting as your last.

You really like annoying people don’t you hmm

Yes, she does.

Absolutely nothing wrong in wanting a change of government - but describing people who vote for the Tories as ‘brain dead’ is just so offensive.
And when they point that out they’re described as ‘having a fit’

I really hope HQ are monitoring her posts.

Hear hear!

There is no need to share nasty, offensive stuff on here.

I wonder if it was Whitewavemark2’s own words, as she usually just uses quotes and not her own thoughts.
Awful stuff tho that needed deleting. Was it a quote by Angela Rayner I wonder?
Why not concentrate on what Labour want to achieve instead of throwing those kind of insults around?

ronib Sat 07-Oct-23 09:20:44

WW2 isn’t doing her cause any favours. Complete turn off.

It was James O'Brien.

It's out of character for Wwmk2 to be unkind, but after the disgraceful exhibition of tory lies, gaslighting, xenophobia and downright nastiness that passed for a 'Party Conference' last weekend I don't understand how anyone with can give them the time of day, let alone be polite about them. O'Brien expresses a lot of people's frustration and disbelief.

ronib Sat 07-Oct-23 09:55:27

O’Brien educated at Ampleforth, anti Brexit - the monks must be proud?

Oreo Sat 07-Oct-23 09:55:31

I’ve no idea who O’Brien is, but if he comes up with stuff like that then I’m glad not to read what he writes. There’s already far too much rage and hate filled messages out there.

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 07-Oct-23 09:58:47

It’s no wonder that some of us who are Conservative voters rarely post on these threads. I found the ‘brain dead’ comments very offensive.

Further to the plans for housing.

There was a 12% drop in the building of affordable houses last year.

Sunak did not mention it once in his speech largely I assume because they have never ever reached their target (rather like the small boats, well, most of what the have failed to do).

House building is set to fall to its lowest level since WW2, because of Tory policies that will dramatically slow development.

Gove has given billions of £s back to the treasury, because he has failed to get the affordable housing plan up and running.

Labour intends to have an entirely different approach. The section 106 planning rules will be toughened, and councils etc are to given assistance in negotiating/drawing up tough contracts with developers.

Labour will no longer allow developers to claim that building affordable houses are “not viable” and only allow them to challenge section 106 under very particular circumstances.

Councils will have greater access to grants to buy housing stock, to rent out at affordable rents.

If the Tories fail to produce a leasehold reform bill, this will be in the first Labour Kings speech, which will make it easier for leaseholders to buy their lease.

Labour will not relax the polluting law that will kill off our rivers.

The Tories have tried to allow developers to poison our land and rivers by relaxing this law, to “encourage” development.

Granny23 Sat 07-Oct-23 09:59:55

The irony is that Labour did not defeat the Tories In Rutherglen (where thy never had a chance of winning) but instead they claimed an SNP seat - That is the SNP who have been busy building affordable housing all over Scotland, providing free tuition, prescriptions, baby boxes, etc - things that Labour never did when they controlled the Scottish Government. Indeed they boasted that ever year they returned some of their Barnet Formula Grant to London as they had not spent it!

Granted, So called "Scottish" Labour, have doubled their representation at Westminster, which was hardly a gargantuan task given that they went from 1 seat to 2.

LadyGracie Sat 07-Oct-23 10:02:26

It was offensive, but very typical.

Whitewavemark2 said in her post where the quote came from Oreo, which makes your comment about her usually using ‘quotes and not her own words’ come across as having a go at her if it’s read one way, apart from not being true because she often shares her own thoughts about issues, whether others agree with them is their choice.

It’s very easy for what anybody says to be misinterpreted by those looking for slights. Let’s have a discussion about issues, not about what people think of other posters.

Kandinsky Sat 07-Oct-23 10:11:44

Pass that onto WW2 not anyone else. She’s the one happily labelling Tory voters as ‘brain dead’ - or supporting those views.

Oreo Sat 07-Oct-23 10:12:33

Casdon
Exactly where on this thread is the quote saying it was by somebody called O’Brien?
The many posts I have read by Whitewavemark2 are quotes,
Some have name sources and some don’t.That being the case I assumed they weren’t her own words.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 07-Oct-23 10:18:42

I used James O’Briens quote because I share his opinion at the frustration and incredibility at those, despite the utter evilness and poison that drips from Braverman etc. are still willing to vote for one if the most inhumane policies that this country has tried to put into law.

It was NOT directed at any particular individual - I have no clue how anyone voted.

The fact that anyone has taken it as a personal insult is either mistakenly or deliberately not understanding what I said.

I never ever direct comments at individuals, unless it is something to praise or give support etc. never have, never will.

So it is no good any one of you trying to goad me into reaction at a personal it won’t work.

My comment was directed at the amorphous voters who stand cheering as the poison from Braverman contaminates everything as she does or fails to do.

nanna8 Sat 07-Oct-23 10:24:03

If I lived there I think that post would make me think if those are the sort of people who support Labor it would be better not to vote for them but look elsewhere. Even Tory.

Yes, not that I'm generally a Tory voter although I have been known to float that way once or twice.

It is just as offensive as remarks by some commentators on GB News which offends so many and causes some sensitive souls to have a fit of the vapours.
