Labour won the Rutherglen and Hamilton West seat with a huge 24% swing.
We can look forward to repeating this all over the country in the GE and get shot of this corrupt, lying, cheating and incompetent government.

County councils don’t deal with residential planning applications Dinahmo. Outside metropolitan boroughs, this is the responsibility of district councils. Local authority lawyers are not highly paid, as with most other public sector employees they are on pay scales. This doesn’t attract high calibre lawyers and my experience of working in a county council legal department is that they are very focused on working set hours rather than getting a job done. The money would be far better spent contracting work out to private practice, as is sometimes done, where the focus is on getting a job done quickly and efficiently.
Actually, the authority in question was East Hampshire which I believe is part of a county, but not the whole. The budget I referred to was that for using private practice lawyers and not the legal team.

Thanks for telling me who I will dislike. I don’t actually “hate” anybody. I leave that to your lot. 😉
That would be a district council, not a county council. A budget of that size for external lawyers 30 years ago was not inconsiderable. When I worked for a county council in the late 70s/early 80s the only use of external lawyers was the extremely occasional taking of counsel’s opinion. Otherwise absolutely everything was done in house,

But you’re being disrespectful in referring to ‘your lot’ Primrose53, do you not see that? There is no ‘your lot’, there is just a range of people with views across the political spectrum, and individuals across that spectrum express their individual views in their own style.
It helps no- one to throw insults around whether they be quotes from someone else or not. Like it or not we have a two party electoral system in this country. On the whole people are in one side or the other. Though of course there are some in betweeners. If either side was so thoroughly rotten as they are made out to be then decent people wouldn’t vote for them. Most people in this country are decent and it may upset some to hear that most MPs yes even Tory ones want to do good. That is why they stand for election.

Individual views are fine but there is no need to be rude, offensive, nasty or sneery about other people and their beliefs. I am sure that people reading such comments are put off even considering voting Labour when they read such stuff.
This thread is “some much needed good news” about Labour’s recent win so it’s quite obvious that it’s mainly Labour supporters commenting. So, using the term “your lot” is not disrespectful. And nobody has yet attempted to answer my question about why Labour supporters always have to be so offensive.
Listening to Sir Starmer being interviewed by Victoria Derbyshire, the man is promoting unicorns, rainbows, pixies and the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow 🤣
He has promised that NHS hospitals will
function at the weekends under Labour.
DH has had all his appointments including a biopsy on Sundays throughout September. Someone should tell him the NHS already works 7 days a week.
There are more holes in his plans than my kitchen colander…
They have just shown him a word cloud about himself biggest word NOTHING 🤣

That’s very true GrannyRose15
I voted Labour nearly all my adult life but switched as I really felt uncomfortable about how the party was heading.
I have to say my local Conservative MP is really good. I have had 3 occasions when I needed his advice/help and he rings me at home within 48 hours usually unless he is working away. If that’s the case his Secretary rings me.
On local social media Labour supporters are absolutely foul to him and at any opportunity will try to belittle him when he works so hard to help his constituents. They post absolute lies about him which is really unfair.
Despite their supposed piety and ‘rightness’ I have found the so called extreme left wingers to be every bit as intolerant and just as plain nasty as the right wingers. They also claim the high moral ground which is enough to make you barf. No extremists on either side are pleasant people, they are dangerous and best avoided.
It’s actually quite hard for the average person to debate politics well, you need certain skills that most of us simply don’t have.
So it’s easier for these people, who do not have the skills, to call the entire opposition ‘brain dead’ ( for example )
It’s ridiculous as most of us know, but that’s how it is. And I definitely see far more ridiculous, offensive, comments from the liberal/ left side of the political spectrum.
It’s like being back in the school playground - they might as well say ‘all Tory voters stink & eat worms’ whilst sticking their tongue out.
I wish there was a really good Labour person on here who could debate well, but I haven’t seen one yet tbh.
I am afraid that going on past Labour governments it will be a disaster if they get in. The problems we have now have not been caused by the government entirely, the whole world is struggling. Kier Starmer is not the answer and Rishi Sunak needs time for his plans to work, and they will.

Agree hospitals have always functioned at weekends seven days a week Reminds me Huny Health Secretary saying hospital will work 7 day week doctors striked more for patient safety first then pay increase. Starmer and Streeting have private health donors at conference, only 1 in 5 are Labour members there so NHS is not safe in their hands. And why do we have a Knight of the realm and who doesn't think Israel is an apartheid state as Labour leader.
GrannyGravy13
They have just shown him a word cloud about himself biggest word NOTHING 🤣
Just for the sake of accuracy the word cloud wasn’t about him it was the answer to a question, “What do you think the Labour Party stands for?”
GrannyGravy13
I think it was the
blue tie tied tight round Tory voters necks stopping the blood reaching their dead brains
comment that some are found offensive…
Actually, it would have to be Yellow in my county!!! Tories are yellow after the dear Lord Lowthers.[The Yellow Earl]. A bit of tie a yellow ribbon around the old Oak tree,I don't think so.
Jane43 I apologise you are correct it was about Labour just as the previous ones were about Conservatives and Lib Dem’s.
Thank you for pointing it out.
Thank you GrannyGravy13. It was also noticeable that there were other words in the same size font - they were ‘People, Himself and Labour’ but ‘Nothing’ was selected to be put in the centre. I am now going to see what words were on the Conservative and Lib Dem word clouds.

Here is the Conservative one from last week
Oops Sir Davey
I saw the interview with Sunak on Laura Kuensberg, and when shown his word cloud he was actually very defensive - it clearly upset him that the biggest word on his was Rich. I missed it this morning as I was on the train, but expect Starmer is upset too - I think they are actually quite powerful expressions of public mood, and leaders should work on the areas where they highlight perceptions that can be changed.
The words on the Labour word are not nearly as vociferously negative as those on the Conservative one. Some of the words describing the Conservatives are extremely damming - a powerful expression of the public mood indeed.

According to the strap line on the BBC websites these word clouds are the publics opinion of the leaders not the parties.
