Hamas has attacked Israel

It’s being reported that Hamas has launched 400 plus rockets into Israel along with its men shooting Israeli civilians in the streets.

Israel has retaliated with extreme force, are we heading for yet another all out war in the Middle East?

I was scrolling X (Twitter) and found the most appalling video posted by Hamas showing a dead Israeli women, stripped naked and being driven around whilst her body is being abused.

I do not think I can ever remove those images from my brain, yet again women being abused/defiled by men as an act of war.

Cases today of Israeli civilians shooting civilian Palestinians at close range with army watching and doing nothing. A Jewish friend from Israel wrote this as a comment

'They want to create provocations to drive the Palestinians in the West Bank into a madness that will justify war there as well.'

And it is breaking my heart but I think she is correct.

I reported this elsewhere and the reply was 'Good, one less to worry about'.

No comment on what the Israeli soldiers found when they went to the Kibbutz. You’re on a sticky wicket if you want to comment on who commits the worst atrocities.

But it's not a game of tit for tat or who was most atrocious.

Governments should be finding some solution to try and ensure it doesn't happen again.

No matter what each side does it will only grow resentment. If only Palestinians and Israelis could have lived quietly within their respective boundaries this situation would not have arisen.

War is a game of tit-for-tat always has been, always will be.

I apologise for the careless analogy. What I meant was that Hamas has no chance of eradicating all Jews. FWIW humanity has no chance of eradicating bedbugs. It was careless of me to compare Jews with bedbugs.

Aha! So that's OK! Let's just watch a few hundred thousand people being killed and get on with our cosy little lives. Let's discuss bins or car journeys or something - much more important.

Unfortunately high emotions don’t have a place or help when dealing with the enemy.

We grans here are not involved in the decisions those in authority have to sort out, there will be a lot more going on in the background which we know nothing about.
We are just bystanders expressing our own opinions.
This all goes back 80 or more years and what happened then has affected the area ever since, so it’s important to at least know something about the background and history.

Vilification of groups of people with other beliefs leads to violence which runs through generations . Personally I am not against anyone because they hold different beliefs and completely disagree with abusing strangers on the streets here or anywhere else, it is totally unacceptable.

Did you not learn about the plight of Jews living in the middle east and Africa, growstuff? These countries managed to eradicate them.

There are only 16 million Jews, worldwide.

In 1945, 856,000 Jewish people lived in the middle east, north Africa and the Gulf region. Only about 4,500 remain, almost all of them in Morocco and Tunisia. Jewish people have lived continuously in the middle east and north Africa for over 2,600 years, yet in just a few decades they almost totally disappeared. Thousands were expelled or fled their home countries in fear. Around 850,000 were forced out or felt they had to leave following the United Nations decision to partition Palestine in 1947. Age-old communities, with roots dating back millennia, were gone. It was the largest exodus of non-Muslims from the middle east until the movement of Christians from Iraq after 2003.

Yes. You need to keep a cool head when you know you’re bombing buildings in a country that contain innocent people. When you turn off power and water to hospitals. No room for emotions there.

I imagine that the Hamas criminals had cool heads when they were decapitating babies, setting fire to children when they were alive, shooting the elderly, raping women and young girls, kidnapping and torturing Jews, for no other reason than they were Jewish.

Of course other nations, mainly America help Israel by providing arms, intelligence and so on,but the heavy lifting, as in Ukraine , is done soley by the Israelis themselves and bearing in mind this is a very small country this will entail most of its youth. Another problem after WW2,was that such Jews that had survived obviously went back to their own country where again a lot were not welcome. Their homes either destroyed or occupied by other people who were not giving them up, nor did they have to. So, once again homeless and stateless people were on the move with nowhere to go. The Jews clearly had to have a homeland to ensure this never happened again and that wherever they lived in the world they would always, if the chips went down have somewhere where they would be automatically welcome.

The gnashing of teeth ( biblical term) and wringing of hands never solved anything.

We don’t know exactly what how those poor people were killed last Saturday. It’s absolutely horrific if true but we do need independent corroboration before repeating this as truth.

As for women being abused in wars, it happens all the time. Whichever army, they are the spoils of war.

No matter what each side does it will only grow resentment. If only Palestinians and Israelis could have lived quietly within their respective boundaries this situation would not have arisen.

The boundaries were fluid as thousands of Palestinians were working in Israel, crossing the border.
Palestinian people were being given medical treatment in Israeli hospitals; yesterday on the news one woman whose husband is missing said he regularly transported Palestinian people from the border for treatment in Israel.
Another Israeli man said his mother was missing or dead, she was a peace activist working with Palestinian women.

There are so many people on both sides of the border who just wish for peace.

Galaxy Fri 13-Oct-23 14:48:22

There is absolutely no other minority where an attack such as this would be minimised and disbelieved.

The atrocities have been corroborated. The Israeli government took the step of releasing the images to counter the misinformation circulating online. I saw a journalist being interviewed yesterday who said they were too horrific for any newspaper to publish but she had seen them. It’s dreadful that they had to take those steps.

Last post from me for the time being.

This kind of remark you have made on the thread about Jewish people is similar to the way Hitler spoke about them.
The way that Hutus referred to Tutsis.
Dehumanising people so that it makes it easier to commit genocide.

I never thought I'd see such remarks on Gransnet. You should be ashamed.

So far on this thread alone we have had a politician isnt to be trusted as his wife is Jewish, that the Jews in America have too much influence, trope after trope, it quite astounding to watch.

One word:
Antisemitism
