A space for those interested. But I'l kick off with this:

Who says that Keir Starmer is humourless?

Keir Starmer appoints Boris Johnson’s ex wife Marina Wheeler as his sex pest tsar and you can’t help but think he had a wry smile on his face when he secured that particular little victory ✌️

Of course we can't tell for sure what kind of Prime Minister Starmer will be but he can't be worse than the last five Tory PMs. We can be sure about their failings, especially Johnson and Truss. Sunak might be more competent than his predecessors but he lacks the support of the Party (which preferred Truss, all of whose ideas he predicted would fail) and is faced with various disloyal figures positioning themselves to succeed him with the support of the bonkers wing of the Tory Party.

True Grantanow the bar hasn’t been high has it? Sunak the best of the bunch, but not likely to last much longer.

What was the music Starmer came in to?

Casdon Tue 10-Oct-23 14:27:27

I know the song, it was from last year, it’s Lionheart (Fearless) by English musicians Joel Corry and Tom Grennan.

Thank you (smile).

Starmer’s speech is inspiring.

DaisyAnneReturns Tue 10-Oct-23 15:15:40

Very well balanced.

Dinahmo Tue 10-Oct-23 15:43:06

I thought he was good. I only hope that the LP can follow through with his ideas when they come to power and assuming that the Tories haven't salted the earth.

MayBee70 Tue 10-Oct-23 15:45:06

Oreo

I have some sympathy for what Bastani says as well Grany
We won’t know if Starmer is any good until he’s in power and even then I’m not confident like some are that the land of milk and honey will happen in the next few years and that all their conference promises will materialise.
What choice is there tho?

He never promised a land of milk and honey in the next few years. Didn't he say it would take at least ten to get things back on track.

G is definitely for gullible…. Good grief

Who are you referring to?

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 10-Oct-23 15:53:21

Jam in a few years’ time. Saying it will take at least ten years is a good get out of jail card.

I heard nothing impressive, just the same old platitudes. Tell people what they want to hear and hope they’re gullible enough to believe it.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 10-Oct-23 15:56:58

Well I didn’t hear anything at all from tory party conference.

Apparently this speech was intended to show the direction of travel if the Labour Party gets in, the policies relating to this will be revealed as we approach the election.

There were a couple of policy announcements, but really everything is being locked away until next year - otherwise the Tories who have no policies will pinch the ideas.

Much like the Tory conference in your eyes then Germanshepherdsmum.

MayBee70 if you believe this rubbish then quite respectfully potentially you are very gullible….. didn’t you learn anything about politics from the Johnson years?

How downright rude....

Not only rude but downright insulting to both MayBee and Starmer.

Out of all the PMs of the last 70+ years to choose as an example; the most mendacious, self serving and corrupt individual ever to have held the office.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 10-Oct-23 17:08:23

What really pleased me was the way Starmer is refusing to meet the Tories in their culture wars. He is refusing to bite. The election is going to be fought on the economy and NHS.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 10-Oct-23 18:50:23

Nothing like the Conservative conference in my eyes Casdon.

Not on housing wwm!

ronib Tue 10-Oct-23 19:36:56

MaizieD surely the top spot for catastrophic democratically elected leaders goes to Adolf Hitler?
I always thought democracy could go so hideously wrong……

If you think Hitler was a British PM in the last 70 years there;'s no hope for you, ronib.

Well, I guess the next opinion polls will tell us what the rest of the electorate thought, but I heard a lot of the same old platitudes at the Tory conference as in previous years, which I don’t think many of them believe any more.
