Starmer’s Dilemma Over Palestinian Situation

This piece comes from the Conservative Party newsletter and is very even handed about Sir Keir’s awkward position. To be fair he has stared down the position of his Muslim MPs and Councillors so is taking a real decision.

Please acknowledge that this article sounds fairly sympathetic towards him.

So what do Grans think?

Galaxy Mon 30-Oct-23 09:51:34

You have made libellous about Starmer I am just following your lead.

Galaxy Mon 30-Oct-23 09:53:20

Libellous statements that should say.

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 30-Oct-23 09:57:51

I think Grany needs to know that repeating someone else’s libellous statements, whether you know who they are or not, is libel. And that it’s wise to know what someone stands for before repeating what they say.

Galaxy Mon 30-Oct-23 10:00:16

She didn't repeat his statements she used his ravings about another subject just to be clear.

Galaxy Mon 30-Oct-23 10:03:16

I could have also said Grany shoplifts courgettes from Tesco as that is based on similar evidence to the accusations made against Starmer.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 30-Oct-23 10:05:34

I think Grany’s distaste of anything related to KS is probably clouded by her unlimited adulation towards Jeremy Corbyn

Grany Mon 30-Oct-23 10:09:39

Quokka

This article from the Guardian sums it up well

Agree
Starmer is ignoring the grassroots.

Grany

Starmer and several labour MPs are members of Friends of Israel and the Israel lobby meaning that they get money have holidays to back Israel are more interested in supporting Israel another country than that their own constituents.

I think Netanyahu the Israel government are practicing ongoing apartheid and occupation against the Palestine people. And now genocide Amnesty International reports.

7,000 Palestinians have been killed so far including children and thousands wounded. This is collective punishment war crimes.

I don’t think Netanyahu is interested in releasing hostages he want to kill all Palestinians. How can the hostages be released if the bombardment continues relentless.

I think both main political parties have blood on their hands.
RS and KS

In a YouGov poll over 70% want a ceasefire Thousand around the world including Jews have been on protests for a ceasefire.

The PM and Starmer are at odds with what the majority want.
I don’t think people will forget Starmer’s position of this humanitarian crises at next GE

Please stop the occupation Free Palestinians peace talks two state solution

Hamas will never want a two state solution. It has been declined by them for ever. Their only aim, get rid of the Jewish people, take over Israel. Terrorists who started this. Many Palestinians live peacefully in Israel. Would you like free movement of suicide bombers from Palestine again.
Jewish people feeling unsafe in their home city of London, people supporting hamas calling for and terrorising London business. Look what Blair and others have allowed to enter our country.

It is ludicrous! Hamas taking over Israel! One of the most heavily armed and militarised countries in the world being "taken over' by a small terrorist organisation. It simply won't happen.
Palestinians in Israel are second class citizens, they live heavily restricted lives. Amnesty says Israel is an apartheid state.

It's a dream, why do they keep attacking Israel. Maybe propaganda, look what they've achieved in our our home city, and in Russia hunting Jewish people at the airport. What did they think Israel would do, clap the rockets, clap the hostages, the murdered babies.
Perhaps if Hamas or Arafat had accepted two states years ago , heh.

Callistemon21 Mon 30-Oct-23 10:50:50

He may be out of touch with the far left of the Labour Party, as he isn’t far left himself , hallelujah for that btw

I agree - he seemed electable but those filled with hatred for his more reasonable and mainstream political views will try to ensure he is never elected, unfortunately.

Grany Your beloved Jeremy was never going to be electable.

Grany Mon 30-Oct-23 10:58:28

Netanyahu saying in a statement in 2019 we have to give money to Hamas we have to bolster Hamas to stop Palestinians two state this has been our strategy He does not want peace the Palestinians do. All along he does not want peace between the two.

It is amazing how no matter what the subject the Starmer supporters insist on resurrecting Jeremy Corbyn.
He is no longer a Labour MP, never mind leader.
Criticism of the present leader is nothing to do with Corbyn.
It is to do with Labour principles which Starmer doesn't seem to support.
Are. the Labour councillors who have resigned far-left?
Are the 4 shadow cabinet ministers who are considering resigning far left?
Are the 100 Labour MPs asking for a ceasefire far left?
Are Sadiq Khan and Andy Burnham far left?

Grany mentions him often as some kind of super-hero, that's the only reason his name arises.

DaisyAnneReturns Mon 30-Oct-23 11:15:28

As KS likely next PM he has to be scrutinised

By you Grany? What are you qualifications for doing this? Who is editing your post to check your facts? Who checks your posts for deformation?

Isn't it the case that you are just repeating the extreme views of some very far-left Socialists who use the internet to spread their propaganda and are attempting to ferm5ent a coup within the so far, democratic Labour Party?

Ilovecheese Mon 30-Oct-23 11:17:02

No, Grany does not.

NotSpaghetti Mon 30-Oct-23 11:18:31

Anniel there are lots of problems with the piece in the link.
I don't want to go into them all here but felt the need to just say so.
It is not "even handed" in my opinion.

Can I flag this again as a balance - on that declares it's bias too.

It is indeed a difficult situation for Keir Starmer. Apparently about 25% of Labour MPs have called for a ceasefire which has put Starmer under a lot of pressure.

It isn't Grany who brings him up on this thread. It's GG13 and you.
My question remains are the people I mentioned far-left?

GrannyGravy13 Mon 30-Oct-23 12:30:56

Yes I brought up Jeremy Corbyn on this thread, but it is brought up by Grany so regularly as a stick to beat Sir Starmer.

Not this thread.
But how would I know if the subject of JC had not been brought up many times?

People are calling for a ceasefire. Some are doing so to all political leaders, so not only to Starmer. But what do they mean and why won't they talk about the consequences?

Exactly DaisyAnne. To all those calling for a ceasefire, I ask them, ‘how would you propose to make it work? Do you believe Hamas would adhere to it and, if not, what would be the consequences for Israel?’ It’s easy to shout ‘ceasefire’ without considering the wider ramifications. Also, regarding Keir Starmer’s stance, I am a member of the Labour Party and he absolutely still has my vote. Those saying he is out of touch with party members do not speak for this party member!
