Is it antisemitic to criticise Israel?

Iam64 Wed 15-Nov-23 10:58:45

Misunderstood, and driven to rape women, behead babies, burn them in ovens as a result

Anniebach Wed 15-Nov-23 11:07:19

Misunderstood ? Unbelievable

silverlining48 Wed 15-Nov-23 11:15:21

Rape has always been the spoils of war. To a greater or lesser extent every army every war.

According to Piers Corbyn, the acts of 7/10 were false flag and were actually carried out by Israel…

I am surprised, because his mother was in The Battle of Cable Street fighting against Mosley's anti-semitic blackshirts in the UK.
She fought against the evil of fascism.

What would Mrs Corbyn Snr think of her sons now, I wonder?
Misguided?

Iam64 Wed 15-Nov-23 11:23:14

silverlining, are you saying that’s ok then? Surely not

Not true.

I have (had) German friends who were relieved to be liberated by the British and Americans and terrified that the Russian 'liberators' would get there first.

They were relieved to br liberated from the Nazis and from the threat of worse.

Rosie51 Wed 15-Nov-23 11:56:47

Callistemon my late f-i-l would echo the fear of the Russians getting anywhere first. When they went through towns and villages after the Russians they were disgusted at the aftermath they saw.

silverlining48 Wed 15-Nov-23 12:35:01

Of course that’s not what I am saying Iam why would you think otherwise.
I know in Germany after the war the women snd girls were most terrified of the Russian army and know this first hand because my mother was a teenager in the eastern front in Germany at the time. Russians were by far the worst but rapes did take place by soldiers of other nationalities too. Or else demands for sex in Exchange for a bit of food was common. Hard to refuse if you are starving. A terrible cruel dilemma for anyone.

Iam64 Wed 15-Nov-23 12:36:44

Thanks silver lining

Anniebach Wed 15-Nov-23 12:36:53

Hamas are an invading army ?

GrannyGravy13 Wed 15-Nov-23 12:37:33

Russian soldiers have committed some heinous war crimes in Ukraine, including rape. They are not fussed if it is a man or women they are raping.

They also have castrated men prisoners without anaesthetic, a slow and painful death.

silverlining48 Wed 15-Nov-23 12:40:19

That’s ok Iam.

A group of lawyers representing Palestinian victims of Israeli attacks on Gaza have filed a complaint to the International Criminal Court (ICC), arguing that Israel’s actions amount to the crime of genocide.

Gilles Devers, a veteran French lawyer and the victims’ representative before the ICC, submitted the complaint to the prosecutor as part of a four-person delegation in the Dutch city of The Hague on Monday.
P
The civil society initiative could result in arrest warrants being issued against top Israeli politicians, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“It is clear for me that there are all the criteria for the crime of genocide,” Devers told Al Jazeera, adding that cases such as ex-Yugoslavia and Rwanda set the precedent against which the complaint had been submitted.

“So this is not my opinion, it’s the reality of law.”

Israel has made no attempt to hide the hallmarks of genocide, the group has argued, by cutting food and electricity to Gaza, attacking civilians and civilian infrastructure and using dehumanising talk that likens people to “animals”.

The group also collected the witness accounts of Palestinian victims whom they legally represent in court.

With mounting allegations of serious war crimes being committed in Gaza, Devers said governments that did not wish to be found complicit should refrain from backing Israel.

“Governments must choose which camp they are on, if they support human rights or genocide. They cannot give speeches about international law and human rights and then accept Israel’s attack without doing nothing,” he said.

What is antisemitism?

I think, if anyone is uncertain, they only need to read this thread.

Criticising the Israeli Government is one thing but the use of words which pertain to the holocaust and are designed to goad Jewish people are anti-semitic.

Agree

Nannyof4mummyof2 Wed 15-Nov-23 15:01:24

But why havent they suffered enough i really dont understand

maddyone Wed 15-Nov-23 17:05:02

Hamas has committed atrocities, though not all they were blamed for.

What do you mean? They didn’t behead babies? They didn’t burn people alive? They didn’t rape young women and then murder them? They didn’t murder 1400 people in a terrorist attack, having given no warnings? What exactly were they blamed for that they didn’t do?
I think you need to have a look at the evidence!

Israel has done similar on the West Bank

Israel has beheaded babies? Tied people together and burnt them alive? Israel has raped young women and then murdered them? Israel has gone to a peace festival and murdered the young attendees?
Really? You need to look at the evidence shown to the world by Israel.

As I said I will never be able to view people or society in the same light after the last few weeks. This thread simply conforms that.

Galaxy Wed 15-Nov-23 18:29:16

Or even confirms.

Anniebach Wed 15-Nov-23 18:39:01

Same for me Galaxy

People do not have to choose sides.

Most people find everything that is happening abhorrent and pray for peace.

Medieval acts of murder and terrorism and the bombing of innocents.
Using women and children, babies as human shields.

It is all horrific.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 15-Nov-23 19:46:13

There are crowds of people outside parliament this evening chanting from the river to the sea along with letting off flares.

The Met Police?

GrannyGravy13 Wed 15-Nov-23 19:56:32

Allsorts Wed 15-Nov-23 19:59:08

Why do we put up with this disgraceful behaviour. This country welcomes people we have to live together. I think Israel should have got their hostages back, it’s too late for that now, they way they’ve gone about it there will be nothing left of Palestine. Hamas started this, not the ordinary people. People protesting here will not change what’s happening there it just disables this one.

Iam64 Wed 15-Nov-23 20:06:03

GrannyGravy13, I’m with you in finding the chant absolutely unacceptable. My understanding is legally it can be argued it isn’t hate speech or antisemitic. This may enable the Met to police with consent, their stated aim.

It’s One of the reasons I wouldn’t join or support the free Palestine marches. I believe it to be anti semitic
I hope a two state solution can be found
