Anyone going to be reading his latest swipe at the Royal Family which comes out tomorrow?

Me neither!

eazybee Fri 01-Dec-23 09:17:55

Perhaps they were confused by the titles, as in the former Prince of Wales and his wife, and helpfully added names just to clarify. But they say the names were there.
Curiouser and curiouser.
The lovely Omid is getting interview after interview out of this, how strange.

Did you know his name means "hope" in Arabic? 🤣 😂
I'd translate it to Omg!

Omg: like it!

An excellent publicity campaign by the publishers, invent 2 names without any evidence then recant them as the work of some mischief maker.

It doesn’t matter that the comment was or was not made, the degree of hostility by that time was such, that it is believable

Whethertomorrow Fri 01-Dec-23 12:50:27

These names weren’t just plonked down randomly in the text. There would have been sentences before and after presumably. Still a deafening silence from H and M.

As usual, whenever the King or William have an important duty to perform on the world stage, the moaners of Montecito find a way to grab the headlines. 😡

William and Catherine received a standing ovation on their arrival at the Royal Albert Hall.
So any bad publicity could be back-firing 🤔

Whoever did put these words in the printed version, and presumably there is evidence from the texts before and after translation, is liable to be sued, so I feel extremely sorry for the two translators. Perhaps Meghan forgot she showed them a page from her script from the Oprah interview.
There does seem to be a growing feeling that discussing a baby's possible skin colour is not a racist comment, and common sense is beginning to prevail.

Sparklefizz Fri 01-Dec-23 16:39:14

Many of Harry's so-called "memories" that he describes in detail never ever happened and are just figments of his imagination or spitefully invented to cause trouble. Ditto Meghan. They have been proved to be lies.

All this possible naming of family members - was that comment even made by anyone at all ? Is it another vicious lie? Meghan told Oprah it was made by one person when she was pregnant. Oprah then asked Harry the same question when he joined them in the garden and he said it was made to him before he married Meghan. So two different stories already.

Now suddenly it's two people who commented, and poor Catherine has been added to the mix because Meghan will always try and poison people against Catherine because of her insane jealousy.

If it was said by anyone at all, I would have bet it was Prince Philip. Now I don't believe it ever happened.

"There does seem to be a growing feeling that discussing a baby's possible skin colour is not a racist comment, and common sense is beginning to prevail."

There may well have been similar discussions before Meghan herself was born

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 01-Dec-23 16:53:28

And yet Oprah, herself a person of colour, feigned shock at the suggestion that anyone could discuss the baby’s possible skin colour - despite our now knowing that this is commonplace in mixed race families.

If I’d been asked to guess who did the speculating my money would have been on Philip or Anne.

sassysaysso Fri 01-Dec-23 17:00:52

Oprah has said that Meghan had not prepared her for the revelation, that she was in fact blindsided by it. Perhaps her reaction was surprise at something that was unexpected.

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 01-Dec-23 17:04:34

I don’t believe Oprah was unprepared for the ‘revelation’. Her surprise didn’t look at all real to me. It would all have been scripted and rehearsed.

Joseann Fri 01-Dec-23 17:05:06

Anyone speak Dutch here? I translated the alleged page to the best of my ability - it's not far off German for syntax - but I am not perfect.
There's the lengthy drivel about the Oprah stuff, then suddenly a final throwaway sentence which suddenly says, "But in the private letters an identity was revealed: Charles." Without seeing the rest of the book its difficult to tell whether these sort of end of paragraph comments are in Scobie's writing style or not. ??

Mollygo Fri 01-Dec-23 17:07:57

So nobody has ever before discussed whether a baby will take after the blond haired mother or the dark haired father. Or if the baby will look more like one parent than the other.
What makes it racist is when someone queries why people might discuss that implying that there’s a cause for concern, rather than just interest.

tickingbird Fri 01-Dec-23 17:23:17

According to American comedian Chris Rock when performing in front of a predominantly black audience, wondering about the shade of a black baby’s skin is the norm. The audience were clapping in agreement. Yesterday a black showbiz presenter, Stephanie (can’t remember surname) said the same so it’s not just mixed race babies. She said there’s nothing racist about it.

Absolutely!

Smileless2012 Fri 01-Dec-23 17:50:32

I agree GSM an having seen Oprah in 'The Colour Purple' I was surprised that she didn't do a better acting job when she feigned her surprise.

Or, in our case, surprise-red haired babies. I expected them to be blonde.
Never presume anything 😁

Totally agree. She'd gone into acting mode. Oscar winner

maddyone Fri 01-Dec-23 18:56:28

We wondered whether any of our grandchildren would have red hair as my daughter’s then husband had dark red hair. Also my sister was auburn before she decided to go blonde. To our absolute delight our gorgeous little granddaughter has beautiful red hair. One of our daughter’s boys has gorgeous blond hair just like my three all had, and the other has brown hair, much like my dad’s. We even wondered what colour hair and eyes our son’s little boy would have and he’s adopted!
Answer: black hair and huge brown eyes.

Delila Fri 01-Dec-23 23:10:56

Of course families discuss these things, it’s perfectly natural whatever the ethnicity of the parents, and I doubt whether it was ever a matter of “concern”. After all, Meghan Markle, herself a person of colour, was presumably already an accepted member of the family, and not experiencing any form of discrimination.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the same speculation was taking place in Meghan Markle’s own family.

Had it been scripted and rehearsed, her "surprise", as an experienced actress, would have seemed a lot more authentic

Calendargirl Sat 02-Dec-23 07:28:28

Oprah’s ‘surprise’ always looked fake to me. The “whaaaat?”and the look of ‘horror’ wouldn’t have won any Oscars.

Added to Meghan’s ‘butter wouldn’t melt’ wistful look.

Regarding the baby’s colour. Well, I know that if my son had married a mixed race woman, I would have been very interested in how dark (or light) its skin would be. Not racist or ‘unconscious bias’, but plain curiosity.

If Harry told Meghan about these family discussions, he was wrong to do so. ‘Where ignorance is bliss….’

All the fuss Meghan makes about colour. When she first came on the royal scene, I thought she could have been Mexican, Italian, Spanish….

And what bit we have seen of the children, all the unwarranted fuss and attention could have been avoided.
