If Meghan's mother had said the same thing, would that have been racist?

Omid Scobie - Endgame.
(345 Posts)Anyone going to be reading his latest swipe at the Royal Family which comes out tomorrow?
Me neither!
I am surprised that OS was allowed to publish this book and ‘Finding Freedom’ before it. In 1995 a housekeeper at Highgrove called Wendy Berry wrote a book called ‘The Housekeeper’s Diary’ which was full of gossip, mainly on Charles and Diana and also Andrew and Fergie. Not only was the book banned in the UK, but the author had to leave the country herself! Now it seems to be open season on the Royals. Someone brought me a copy of Wendy Berry’s book from America, and it was a lot less scandalous than OS’s books, and indeed ‘Spare’ which was much more deserving of being banned, in my opinion.
I expect the housekeeper had been required to sign a non disclosure agreement. In that case writing a book ‘full of gossip’ would be an obvious breach.
well, piers morgan has named Charles and Princess of Wales as the two names in the dutch copy of the book now on the talk show you tube.
I think by Meghan and Harry staying quiet means they agree with the named people being racist. Whether it is racist, depends on the context which we don't know. Harry said his own family aren't racist and this book just seems to be a nasty attempt to discredit the family. I believe Meghan and Harry are involved in the book though. I can't see reconciliation between them all now, let's hope their marriage lasts as Harry has the most to lose in all this.

Yes it does.

I’d have put money on Princess Anne and Prince Philip- so I was wrong.
Can’t see H&M or Odious Scabies wriggling out of this one.
Princess Anne was named, but in an earlier ‘revelation.’
I don’t believe any of them.
I won’t be reading this book. I think it’ll be fictionalised rubbish.
It seems to me that this whole thing has been a deliberate and cunning ploy to get those names in the public arena without the Sussexes having to breathe a word. It's obvious that it wasn't a "translation error" but rather a calculated publicity stunt. Would many be talking about the book otherwise?
Harry not only said his family weren’t racist and denied that he or Meghan had ever said they were but he also said during the Oprah interview that he would never say who that person was.
Now we’re supposed to believe it’s TWO people.
What a nasty, vindictive pair they are. As for Omid Scobie and his stupid book?? Why would anyone want to read it? Really. Why?

Good point!
Why is the question racist, no different to asking what colour hair
whatever was said it was said to harry, he should have saved meghan's feelings and not told her in my opinion.. When he told her ' it grew legs '.
I'm sure the Sussexes will want to distance themselves from this book given the regurgitated vitriol and the fact that they are now defined as two people who spend their lives reliving past grievances. It also has to be remembered that they denied having any input into "Finding Freedom" but then Meghan was forced to recall that she had provided briefing notes and probably a lot more besides for that!
I think what is very apparent is she has always had a big problem with Catherine, just too many side swipes about matters of great insignificance to think otherwise. In any case one only has to look at personal histories to work out who the person is with so many discarded relationships and people dumped out of their life, and that isn't Catherine.
Context is everything, it's a thing in families to wonder what colouring a prospective baby will have, right down to eye and hair colour, it isn't a big deal, given England is a very multi racial society to wonder whose genes will come to the fore, and not necessarily in a pejorative way,
The Sussexes set the ball rolling and whilst they may not have their hands all over this nasty piece, the association is still there and the nail has been driven further into the coffin, I don't think there can be anyway back for them. Lets hope Harry is happy in the US, reviews haven't always been favourable, being labelled half of a pair of f*****g grifters by a person who has credibility in one of the industries they have set their sights on might be an indication that they are not taken seriously, along with the pillorying in South Park. Then there is Harry's sustainable travel or whatever, not sure a person who takes private jets for recreational purposes, concerts, polo matches etc. can be taken seriously on that score, given that the richest 1%'s carbon footprint is greater than the poorest 66% of the world. They just come across as embittered, rather spiteful, rich, spoilt dilettantes who have no meaningful role whatsoever merely turning up to events to mouth a load of gobbledygook unlike their brother and sister in law who do the stuff they thought was either too boring or beneath them!
She's a little treasure. Meghan.
First a very personal letter to her father shared with that month's ' close friends' who kindly shared snippets with a magazine, then prosecuting her father when he did the same.
Next a letter to her father-in-law accusing him and his family of 'unconscious bias.' Not the lucrative response they hoped for, so make use of the sycophantic O.S. to stir things up.
Harry offers to come for Christmas dinner, so he can then say the rift is none of his making. M won't come because 'she doesn't want to dive back into the soap opera.' She should be so lucky.
An odious couple, but you couldn't make them up.
So delicious to dish the dirt on them.
They should have distanced themselves from it already TerriBull but if and when they do, I very much doubt that anyone will believe they didn't have a hand in it. I certainly don't.
H & M have not distanced themselves from Scobie's book so we can only assume they have had a part in it as they are extremely quick to threaten legal action at other times.
Meghan is very jealous of Catherine and as Anniebach and others have said, M expected and wanted to be Queen Bee, and then found that she wasn't.... hence we have the petty venom at every opportunity.
I agree with every word Terribull but this in particular reminded me that just as there are Alpha males, there are women who cannot tolerate the perceived competition of other women.

Patronise those “beneath you”, ingratiate yourself with those “above you” (or attempt to) and ghost those who have served their purpose. I would love to hear what the likes of Princess Anne, the Queen and Sophie Edinburgh have said about her.
No sisterhood where MM is concerned , just “Topcat””
Exactly. Despite all her guff about women’s rights.

This 👍
The only woman Meghan cares about is herself.
Tbh I came to the conclusion that Meghan is a nasty piece of work a long time ago. Why any of these organisations pander to her and give her nonsense awards baffles me. As for Harry, I don’t believe he’s the nice guy we all thought he was. They deserve each other.

It's not just the family.
Meghan has said some pretty nasty things to and about her staff, some of whom were handpicked for their experience and discretion by Harry.
I thought she would be a breath of fresh air, bringing her drive and enthusiasm for charity work with her, but it looks as if she has gone through her life leaving a trail of destruction and abandoned relationships in her wake, family, friends and staff.
Who next?
There aren't many left for her to abandon.
I wonder what emotional impact all this is having on Catherine?
If I were her mum I'd be itching to have my say publicly to set the records straight.
