What is it with this man and his runaway mouth
So it seems in ‘private’ and ‘in jest’ it’s said this man has joked about giving his wife Rohypnol ‘in a small amount of course hahaha’
Can he really stay on with so little thought in what he says

Hope the link works looks a bit long

Exactly Merlotgran. He also kind of apologised for calling the town a sh**hole, said he’d called the MP a sh**hole, so that’s alright then.
Who sets standards ?

merlotgran Sun 24-Dec-23 18:47:43

I was almost as furious with the News presenter (not one I recognised) who, at the end of the report, said, ‘Well at least he’s apologised.’

So that’s alright then! 😡

He may have thought he was having a private conversation but that does not in any way excuse what he said and, apparently, considered humorous.

Delila Sun 24-Dec-23 17:17:52

He’s a very puffed-up sort of personality, devoid of integrity. Given enough rope he’ll hang himself, if he hasn’t done so already. I hope he has, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s quietly dropped, with no repercussions.

Glorianny Sun 24-Dec-23 16:53:59

I would imagine Sunak's problem if he sacked Cleverley would be who would replace him?? It's already a cabinet of few talents rapidly deteriorating into a Cabinet of no talents

Iam64 Sun 24-Dec-23 16:51:39

I do believe Cleverley is unfit to be Home Sec.

Chestnut Sun 24-Dec-23 16:49:52

Politicians should realise that things they do and say are usually captured one way or another. So many of them have written stupid things on social media, said or done stupid things in front of cameras and in meetings and interviews. Firstly they are giving themselves away, secondly they need sacking for being so stupid! We expect and deserve our politicians to be intelligent people of integrity, honest and trustworthy, not stupid idiots who think and behave like teenagers.

I find it incomprehensible that this man had no idea of the significance of his comments

Jimmy Dimly strikes again.

Grammaretto Sun 24-Dec-23 16:24:27

Absolutely Iam64 along with Boris, Mone, Dorries etc.
I can almost hear the words of a song

I am not particularly offended but I find it very very weird.

Iam64 Sun 24-Dec-23 15:47:29

Yes, that’s my thought Chestnut. He was at a work function, presumably because he’s Home Secretary. In his role and at Downing Street he’s always on duty. What a fool not to realise this. Even bigger fool for not appearing to realise ‘jokes’ about sedating women are offensive from anyone. Unacceptable snd a signing matter from the HS

Do you see this as disloyal Katie59?
I see it as in the public interest to ensure we know how the man leading the campaign against spiking feels about it.

I think Katie means that Cleverly might see it as disloyal that someone spoke out, not us. We would view it as public duty but I don't suppose he would.

His comments would be disgusting and unacceptable from any one. This level of casual misogyny is hard to believe from any man let alone the Home Secretary at a Downing Street function. He’s ’apologised’ whilst pointing out he thought he was having a private conversation

He should resign or better yet, Sunak should sack him. His comments wouldn’t be out of place in those misplaced groups for sex offenders, that were found to make things work.

If you are a polititian there is no such thing as privacy or loyalty, someone will betray you

Grammaretto, hopefully enough people agree with you at the next GE, and vote them out.

Katie59 Sun 24-Dec-23 14:47:54

With Cleverly as Home Secretary with that sort of attitude how can we expect the police to behave properly.

Grammaretto Sun 24-Dec-23 14:13:17

There's little point in dissecting what he said. Whatever the precise words, they are not things we should hear from our "leaders"
He obviously has poor judgement and has no control over himself so how can he possibly make important decisions affecting millions?
How do these people end up running the country?
I despair. 😔

Bridie22 Sun 24-Dec-23 14:10:09

I was totally gobsmacked when I read this earlier, he needs to think before he speaks, actually he needs to go immediately. Totally inappropriate remarks and creepy ugh!

toscalily Sun 24-Dec-23 13:46:20

This is 2023, woman have fought long and hard to be treated fairly and at the same level and have the same work/life opportunities and respect as any man. And yet, we still have someone in a position of power, authority and what would once have been considered an honourable position openly making such degrading statements about women. This man is not worthy of the job and should be asked to leave (thrown out!)

I think it's all part of the tory desire to turn the clock back to the 1970s for women. I'm surprised he didn't make a mother in law joke as well...

And let's not even think about Miriam Cates saying that it was the duty of British women to have more babies...

Oh, her. I could see her far enough. She's not that old herself. It's always open to her to quit her job and stay at home cracking out a few more babies herself.

Doesn't seem to attract her as much as getting 92 grand a year to dress up and lecture the rest of us on what we do with our uteri, though. Can't think why.

Who has her kids when she's at work? Just curious after all the things she said about working mothers and all that. Doubt it's her husband as he is a wealthy businessman.

I personally gave up my career to be at home with my children, but that was a personal choice and I will be damned if I am going to tell other women what they should be doing with their lives. I also make extremely sure to not tell other people they 'should' be doing anything I am not prepared to do myself.

Sparklefizz Sun 24-Dec-23 12:59:40

His comments are disgraceful from anyone at all, but from the Home Secretary .... Well! he is a disgrace and should go.
