Seems Prince George will be attending Eton after all, same as his father and Uncle Harry.

Apparently Catherine favoured her alma mater, Marlborough 50 miles away - a co-ed establishment. Did you know there are over 100 boys at Eton paying no fees? I didn’t. They're not all "elite". Many are very normal, others are very rich. It's a complete mix. They are all clever though. I hope he can keep up.

The RF may have access to great schools and health care etc etc

However, it's a life I wouldn't want to live myself.

Bird in a gilded cage and all that

Agree Louella some demanded we should be given details of
Catherine’s operation, and as for Charles having cancer , a
disgrace for some

But would either of you swap places?

🤔

Not able to place children in back of car for a day on the beach

Not able to enjoy mountain walks or stroll by a river
Or a paddle in the river

Not able to attend church fetes

Spend the evening in the local cinema

Meet friends in a coffee shop

So many more things

GrannyGravy13 Tue 20-Feb-24 07:40:24

flappergirl nobody knows how others lead their lives, or why they choose the schools their children go to, not the royals, not the rich, not the famous or even the family next door who also now have a choice of schools as opposed to the old catchment only system.

Lives behind doors are often different from what others perceive.

I can assure you that I am not fooling myself

GrannyGravy13 Tue 20-Feb-24 07:41:29

seriously kidding myself I think not flappergirl

They do have access to vast tracts of unspoilt Scottish countryside without having to bother with tourists, though. Plus most of their houses have whacking great gardens to frolic in. I couldn’t care less where they send their offspring to school, good luck to them.

Prince George is a future King of Great Britain, of course he will get the very best education money can buy, what that means in 30 or 40 years time is uncertain. My guess is that there will be many changes, you don’t have to be super intelligent to be a good head of state, Queen Elizabeth probably wasn’t.

She did work tirelessly with dignity for the good of the nation throughout her reign, despite many pressures that had to be endured. Surely that is what we would wish any head of state to do

Anniebach Tue 20-Feb-24 08:34:08

Surely the child needs school to mix with others, not one child with a tutor

No, I wouldn't swap places but then I wouldn't swap places with a lot of other people either.

I wouldn't have wanted to be bred (or more accurately inter bred) in captivity as the royal family have, rather like zoo animals in a ludicrously gilded cage. A relic of a bygone era that increasingly ceases to reflect or relate to the people paying for its upkeep.

It is deliberately engineered situation which, apart from anything else, is extremely unhealthy for the inhabitants of that cage.

While not in a guided cage these days the descendants of the former European royal families live very privileged lives quietly. If you ever wonder what happened to the Habsbergs, they are alive and well in all sorts of places.

And if you speak out about it being unhealthy you are slated for the rest of your days!

Oh, I think people trek across the land at Balmoral and sometimes bump into members of the Royal Family who stop for a chat.

I don't get all this who mixes with who business? Once you're inside the gates of a school, people are just people, children are just children. Everyone wants the best they can afford, so of course the facilities and resources will be different.
In my experience, the richest parents and pupils live pretty real lives, even if that does include sending a helicopter pick up the kids at half term. grin They do mix with a pretty wide selection of people, and their normal is just that. The common denominator is that they have money. Good on them. I'll just carry on as I am in my normal too. I wouldn't swap.

I don’t believe nearly everyone lives such a life Grantanow I don’t, my grandchildren don’t, I am so sorry life is so hard for you.

I didn't say anything about my own life. Of course, not everyone in the UK is poor. While one can debate the exact definition of poverty (absolute, relative, etc.) it is clear from a House of Commons Library report that in 2023 some 17% of people were in absolute poverty after housing costs were included (based on DWP figures). The Tories claim it's decreasing but 1 in 6 is a terrible position for any country claiming to be a humane civil society to be in. And not all of the 5 out of 6 can afford to send their kids to public schools, make use of private medical care or afford mortgage increases delivered by the Tories under Truss. Kings and Royals don't have such problems.
