ExaltedWombat I've read remarks like yours on here before....what is it that you dont understand? There are NO child prostituites...only abused children.Behaviours are often learned in their abusive/neglectful backgrounds. Many came from the care system. The ONLY people to blame are the "men"

Was the ‘difficulty’ that some of the girls refused to take advice or change their behaviour patterns? Should they have been imprisoned for their own safety, in an imperfect world where bad men do exist? It’s easy to take an over-idealistic attitude to these cases. But does it help to close down the discussion by crying ‘Victim Blaming!’?

I don't think it is an "idealistic world" to expect the police to investigate properly without fear of being called racist or to protect children no matter what their behaviour patterns. If those bad man aren't there, they can't keep raping children. Woman and children should not be blamed for what men do to them even if they do drink too much alcohol, take drugs or dress 'provocatively'.

They were children exaltedwombat therefore coulnt consent.

I can’t believe Maggie Oliver has not yet been recognised. 😩

I would kick out the perpetrators Insist that they go back to their country of origin which is Pakistan and Afghanistan. And take away their passports so that they can never return .
It makes my blood boil. How dare they come to our country and abuse our girls !

Most of them have the UK as their country of origin.

And you know this how?

Maggie Oliver is so deserving of recognition for all she has done to support and help these vulnerable girls. She is a true hero in my book.

Anniel Thu 18-Jan-24 12:49:15

Maggie Oliver wrote a book called Survivors which is in our Audible library so it is free to members. I much admire this determined woman. I find it incredible that the Police and the Council have still not properly investigated this awful crime so although some men were prosecuted there are others carrying on in Rochdale continuing heinous crimes. I have always respected Andy Burnham and I do hope he gets involved in putting a stop to this dreadful crime against young girls.

It seems that the Rochdale crimes against young girls are still happening. I had hoped that this was over obviously it is not. Its a very sorry state of affairs.

She really should. People like her and the sexual health nurse are gold dust and brave in the face of The Machine.

Remeber being told we are all 'equal before the law'....???

icanhandthemback Thu 18-Jan-24 11:35:14

We don't watch GBNews but she was on one of the other channels saying that the same mistakes are still being made. That is really worrying. Well done to Maggie Oliver but it seems to me that we shouldn't be relying on bulldog types to get such terrible things looked at.

Urmstongran Mon 15-Jan-24 19:51:03

Oh dear. 😮

petra Mon 15-Jan-24 19:49:50

I hope Andy Burnham keeps behind this now
Like he did when hundreds died at Mid Staffs hospital.

Urmstongran Mon 15-Jan-24 18:58:39

*Oliver - not Oldham.

Urmstongran Mon 15-Jan-24 18:57:11

As GBNews has just said “what is truly shocking is that Maggie Oliver tells us this is STILL going on - as is the fact that there are 96 men walking our streets in Britain tonight who have been involved in these shocking incidents’.

It beggars belief doesn’t it?

Maggie Oldham should be given an honour for all her hard work on this issue. It has taken 12 YEARS to produce this report. I hope Mayor Andy Burnham keeps behind this now.

JaneJudge Mon 15-Jan-24 18:39:30

Oh dear I thought the lines crossed stuff out 🙄

JaneJudge Mon 15-Jan-24 18:39:03

I am reading the transcripts, they were seen as difficult women, one was described as difficult to work with. We should really learn from this in terms of who to listen to.

I find in general that —men— people are afraid of ‘difficult —honest— women’

eazybee Mon 15-Jan-24 18:29:51

This was a scandal that was brought to public notice by dramatization. Shocking that this is the only way to get things done.
