After dire YouGov polls?

Stop the boats, stop the Net Zero, stop the high taxation, stop the pandering to woke and yes - they will get pummelled in the GE.

Reform UK for me and so many others.

Sorry but not Reform. Too right wing for me. I just hope that they will split he Tory vote.

MayBee70 Mon 15-Jan-24 22:30:45

What exactly is Reforms plan?

Luckygirl3 Mon 15-Jan-24 22:37:30

Well, if you say so Mr Sunak ...........

Charleygirl5 Mon 15-Jan-24 22:44:59

May I ask where as it is not working in this country and is unlikely to anytime soon.

J52 Mon 15-Jan-24 22:54:04

Errr. It indicates that Reform would have no seats.

What exactly is Reforms plan?

To drive the Tory party further and further to the right?

I’ve read their policies, which cover few of the functions of government. The one I’m most taken with is that the entire private healthcare sector will transform into a charity - their healthcare rescue plan is predicated, to a large extent, on the idea that private providers will charge the NHS a flat fee of Ā£3,000 each for 3 million operations…

You just know when you get to the 'stop pandering to woke' bit that Reform is a deadly serious and high minded new party which reaches out to all members of the electorate in a spirit of unity and healing...šŸ˜‚

Well, UG, you've backed the loser every time so far, I really doubt if it'll be any better this time.

NannyJan53 Tue 16-Jan-24 08:52:27

Exactly as MaizieD says!

I googled their main aims a while ago and found that they want to reduce taxes - the tax threshold would be raised to Ā£20,000, abolish tuition fees, limit immigration and others I can’t bring to mind. Apart from saying they want to encourage growth they don’t say how all this would be funded, I can only assume they believe in a small state and would cut down welfare payments. If anybody is seriously thinking of voting for them I would say research what they want to do and ask yourself how they are going to accomplish it.

Did urms not back Johnson?, whatever I may think of him he won an overwhelming majority.

MaizieD Tue 16-Jan-24 09:12:37

Galaxy

Did urms not back Johnson?, whatever I may think of him he won an overwhelming majority.

He was a loser in the end, resigning in disgrace and leaving the country poorer and still divided.

I suppose one's definition of 'loser' for a politician or a political party depends on whether you count personal aggrandisement or achievement of positive benefit for the country as a measure of success.

MaizieD Tue 16-Jan-24 09:14:39

And Johnson's majority was 'won' on a minority of the votes, as parliamentary majorities usually are under out FPTP system..

Chocolatelovinggran Tue 16-Jan-24 09:19:56

How will Reform fund the responsibilities of government if the tax threshold is raised as they suggest? Can someone tell me their economics for defence/education/policing et al...obviously the health system is sorted(?!)

Galaxy Tue 16-Jan-24 09:20:56

He won the election under the system we have. In the same way Blair won his elections.
I dont pretend that people losing an election is actually a success, Corbyn and his followers continue to try that, it is a disaster for the people the labour party is supposed to help.
Whether you personally agree with Johnson is another thing.
I dont agree with Trump but I think it more than likely he will be successful in the next US election.

MaizieD Tue 16-Jan-24 09:25:20

And just who is pretending that losing an election is actually a success, Galaxy?. I hope that comment wasn't directed at me...

They are going to print the money to provide all these great benefits.

Unfortunately, though they have grasped that a state can issue as much of its own currency as it wants to, they haven't understood that they'll need to tax back the excess to control inflation.

Print money and cut taxation. A sure recipe for economic disaster.

Urmstongran Tue 16-Jan-24 09:39:04

Well my money’s on Trump too MaizieD 🤣
People obviously remember what the US was like under Trump, before Biden destroyed it.

Galaxy Tue 16-Jan-24 09:41:56

No its a discussion about the words losers and winners in terms of electoral success. Johnson was very successful in winning an election, whether I agree with him is irrelevant to that.
On the other point, I think it's possible Reform may become an electoral force, small parties tend to be vulnerable to infighting but if they can avoid that its possible. The Tories tend to behave quite bizarrely after an election defeat, so there will probably be a few wilderness years! There are a group of people not represented by any party at the moment, they may head to reform, particularly if there is a charismatic leader there.

Oopsadaisy1 Tue 16-Jan-24 09:52:52

Oh dear, you mean he planned this all along?
Heaven help us.

Grantanow Tue 16-Jan-24 10:36:04

Plan? What plan?

nanna8 Tue 16-Jan-24 10:40:09

There is a movement towards right wing parties in parts of Europe, though. I wouldn’t dismiss their appeal to the public out of hand. Stranger things have happened, people can be unpredictable.

Nicenanny3 Tue 16-Jan-24 10:47:01

Two votes here for Reform, The Lib Dems are finished with EdDavey as leader although perhaps he will resigns like he often shouts for others to do šŸ¤” Reform will be the new third party that's my opinion and as well as taking votes from the Tory party I think a lot of Red Wall Seat voters who turned Blue for Brexit (Boris) will also vote Reform. As for cries of what's Reforms policies well what are Starmer's policies to cancel Rwanda if it ever gets the go ahead, well I don't think that's a vote winner not with Red wall voters and previous Brexit voters do you, unless some live in a little bubble. Anyway who knows look at the polls before Brexit anything is possible Nigel might come back to front Reform and sweep to victory, Prime Minister Nigel Farage well there's a thought 🤣

Casdon Tue 16-Jan-24 11:47:51

According to the Telegraph’s analysis Reform will reduce the Tory seat share by 35, but won’t win any seats themselves. Bring It On.

Oreo Tue 16-Jan-24 12:26:20

All voting Reform will get you is a Labour government, so yeah go ahead.😃
