Should we be a bit more like the French and revolt?

En route to Bergerac from Perigueux today we passed a long file of tractors - more than 100 - heading north with police motor cyclists escorting them . Also several vans and lorries with placards. I think that they were headed towards Rungis in the southern suburbs of Paris. On roundabouts and roads leading to autoroutes there are piles of old tyres and other rubbish, presumably waiting for the next blockade to take place. There were some police standing around but no sign of any action.

Apparently French govts are scared by the masses because of the possibility of another revolution.

Our govts aren't scared of us but has the time come when they should be?

Well, there are British farmers on Tik Tok saying there is a strike in plan .

There won’t be a strike, that would be illegal, there may well be demonstrations and blockade of supply, so stock up youre cupboards.

The French government have agreed concessions including controversial pesticide rules, the blockades are being dismantled.

The French Revolution was 1789 ……THAT’S what the French governments are always afraid of! We , as a nation are pretty pathetic! We let governments ride roughshod over us !

We've had a Civil War and a Glorious Revolution but then decided the alternative was worse than a monarchy!

Perhaps some French people might be wondering if the same could be true.

I think the revolution brought about a new way of thinking in France. You had all these Romanticists who sought to encourage people to live the lives they always wanted. Also such thinking brought about really beautiful works from the likes of Victor Hugo and Chateaubriand which shaped the nation.
If storming a prison can do that, who knows what an uprising in 2024 could do?

There was also something unspeakably vile called The Reign of Terror. Revolutions tend to have a phase like that when the 'victors' struggle to find a way of bending the populace to their way of thinking and establish consensual government. Not something I'd care to experience.

The English so called 'Glorious Revolution' was just a swap at the top among the ruling elite. The general populace wasn't particularly affected, nor did it seriously affect the established system of government.
