This is really getting too much a 68 year old lady visiting her grandson was mauled to death yesterday by the family dogs believed to be unregistered XLBully s in Jaywick Essex
There were also 6 puppies in the house
The grandson who is 10 saw it happen, traumatised for life I would think
The rules for owners are now in place will the owner be jailed for murder ?
What a dreadful way to die
The police have GOT to follow this with the strongest of punishments in my opinion

Aren’t XL bullies supposed to be neutered

Skydancer Sun 04-Feb-24 18:52:42

Dogs everywhere I go. And I am disgusted as to why some people want to own these dreadful breeds. Blame the owners.

Iam64 Sun 04-Feb-24 18:57:30

I’ve skimmed the Guardian and the DMail. Yes, 6 puppies and two adult dogs. The DM reports none of the dogs had been registered, so on that basis alone, an offence was committed. The dead grandmother had allegedly said the dogs were dangerous. She’d gone to visit her grandson who saw the attack.
It’s well known that any bitch can be protective of her litter.
I hope the owner is charged with manslaughter, which is so far as I know, the most serious offence he faces.

Yesterday, I saw 5 xl bullies being walked on pavements, all were wearing muzzles as is now mandated. I have 2 dogs currently, often had 3 in the past, including rescues and fosters. I’m boringly cautious about where mine get to run off lead because there are so many dogs running wild

BlueBelle Sun 04-Feb-24 20:09:34

Apparently neighbours bravely tried to break windows to get in the little grandson had run into the street screaming for help
8 bullies in the house 2 adults and 6 puppies a disaster waiting to happen
This is a total nightmare for the rest of the family to lose their mum in such dreadful circumstances a horrible painful frightening death I would think the grandson will be in shock for ever

Yet another example of why this breed and the majority of people who buy them need stopping

Sago Sun 04-Feb-24 20:14:57

If there was a medication that had caused as many deaths it would be withdrawn.
These dogs need to be euthanised.

Iam64 Sun 04-Feb-24 20:15:29

What an interesting point of view Sago and spot on

Iam64 Sun 04-Feb-24 20:18:53

Oh dear - the DM showing photographs of the owner, a “rapper’. It’s claimed when the gran/now killed by these dogs challenged him, saying they’re dangerous, his response was no one tells me what to do with my f**g dogs. Just the kind of person we want in charge of killer dogs -

BlueBelle Sun 04-Feb-24 20:32:20

The poor little boy lost his mum who died two years ago he was living with his father who sounds a complete a…h… I hope he gets a long sentence The arrogance shows the mentality of these people who own these killers
I hope the little boy can live with his aunties and away from this house of horror and I hope the puppies were all put down too

PuddyCat Sun 04-Feb-24 20:34:36

Am I understanding this correctly? The poor woman who died, was actually killed by the dogs that belonged to her son in law? So the little boy who witnessed it all happening was actually witnessing his own father's dogs kill his grandmother? Is that right? OMG. angry

M0nica Sun 04-Feb-24 20:36:09

I think people who own dogs like this should be charged with manslaughter. Especially in cases like this where the dogs were neither registered nor neutered and people had expressed concern.

Desdemona Sun 04-Feb-24 20:49:03

I hope they send the man to jail. He sounds disgusting.

The poor little boy lost his mum, and now his nan has died so horribly.

Primrose53 Sun 04-Feb-24 20:58:46

All these XL Bullies need destroying. There is no need for anybody to own these beasts.

Anniebach Sun 04-Feb-24 21:05:51

The man quite possibly had sold the puppies

Luckygirl3 Sun 04-Feb-24 21:09:14

I am afraid that I am of the view that all these dogs should be put to sleep. They are a manmade product feeding the egos of macho men. They need to be eliminated.

BlueBelle Sun 04-Feb-24 21:17:44

I agree luckygirl they should all be destroyed they are manmade and a dangerous edition to the dog world
I hope the man gets a long prison sentence

What about those that have responsible owners who have done everything to comply with the law and the dogs haven't actually done anything wrong why should they be put down ?

Luckygirl3 Sun 04-Feb-24 21:28:38

I do find it hard to imagine anyone who wishes to own such an animal being described as responsible.

Pretty sure some of them are. The problem is it's not even a recognised breed.
When it comes to euthanasia they are looking at the wrong end of the lead.

Luckygirl3 Sun 04-Feb-24 21:39:19

It is illegal to walk the streets with a lion on a lead for a very good reason. I see no difference with these dogs. No amount of debating the sanity of the owner removes the fact that the lion is dangerous.

A little bit of an exaggerated comparison As the XL bully is not a definite breed many unfortunate crossbreed dogs can fall under the wide description given out by the law made. Some have probably lived in family homes for years quite happily. Why should they just be killed for the way they look.

They are. But this is the perfect example of how you can pass all the laws you want, but it all comes down to enforcement. Yes, there will be XL Bully owners out there who have followed the new laws to the letter - but there will be many others, like this one, who have no intention of complying. So then what? Who actually enforces the new laws? The police are already heavily overstretched.

M0nica Sun 04-Feb-24 22:27:39

People wanting a companionable family dog do not buy XL Bullies.

The only reason I can see for buying these bully dogs or other banned breeds is because you want to be seen as 'hard' by owning a dog of uncertain temprament that could attack and kill at the wave of a broom.

Many years ag Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie did a hospital sketch, where Laurie had to tell Fry he had lost his penis in an accident , but not to worry they had got the perfect replacement, At which point someone brought in a fierce alsation on a lead, pointed to the white van parked outside - and there was something else I cannot remember.

This sketch always comes back to me when cases like this occur.

It's a banned breed.

Just because it is not a breed recognised by the Kennel Club does not mean it cannot be on the list as an XL Bully type dog.

The sooner these dogs are eradicated by neutering the better.

Any unregistered, out in public without lead and muzzle should be reported and investigated with a view to having them put down.
