Another person is mauled to death

And here we go again, another XL Bully attack and this time two babies. This just has to stop.

That is just your worst nightmare. I would have been deeply traumatised if I had been with my children or grandchildren. The poor mother is scared to go out now.

Maybe Germanshepherdsmum can help. Tests are ongoing to determine if one or both of these dogs are a banned breed. XL/pit bull, one looks like a bull dog, the other more Rottweiler. I understand he claims the litter was ‘an accident’. If the bitch is an xl, the pups will be pts.

Even if he wasn’t in the house, he was in charge of two dogs that were out of control and killed someone in his home, someone he invited in. My understanding is that would lead to a manslaughter charge. So far as I can see, he hasn’t yet bern charged with anything but I expect he will be

I do know someone, very close to here, whose daughters partner was killed by the daughters dog.

They took the dog, did blood tests to see if actually had pitbull genes, and put it to sleep as soon as they found out it did.

XL bullies can’t be re-homed. Life in kennels no matter how good, is stressful for dogs. Stressed dogs aren’t happy.

We know nothing about the relationship between the father and son. No doubt police made a referral to Children’s Services, resulting in a formal assessment of this boy’s needs and how best they can be met. This boy has faced terrible bereavements, his mum 2 years ago and now seeing his maternal grandmother killed by the dogs he lived with. I don’t know what offence his dad has been charged with but he’s been given bail. It may be the child needs not to return to his home with dad because of what he witnessed there. He needs to be within his family. Poor lad

It’s such a shame to see any dog living out their life in kennels though. When the staff go off duty that’s it apart from perhaps a welfare check. My last shepherd had been in kennels for a long time before we came along, through no fault of her own. The staff loved her but she didn’t - couldn’t - have the human company and the comfort and freedom she would have in a home. It was our privilege to be able to give her that and she repaid it more than I can say. A life in kennels is not a life, it’s an existence.

I’ve just checked and they seem to be planning for her to live in the kennels permanently.Their long term inmates do lead a pretty good life, walks on the beach etc. It’s going to cost a lot of money which could be helping a lot more dogs over the years. They do put a lot of time and effort into helping quite serious cases of neglect and do a wonderful job but I can’t help but feel that this will divide opinion.

It rather confirms the impression I got of him as being as thick as two short planks.

I think they’re planning to rehome her.

My friend is a dog walker. She was telling me that her insurance would not cover her to walk any XL Bullies (not that she has any on her books in any case).

Rescues regularly get influxes of the "latest" dogs, when the novelty wears off, and people come to their senses and realise they shouldnt have got them.

A local rescue that I support has an XL bully. They’ve had to increase their insurance by a huge amount. She does seem to be a lovely dog but I do feel uneasy about it all.

I think that’s inevitable if these were unregistered XL bullies, and he had bred from them.

The man has bail - surely the child is not allowed to live with him while the father awaits trial?

Apologies for taking it too seriously. I’m with you on strengthening the law around breeding. A neighbour’s cockapoo just produced its 2nd litter, the mother of the litter is only 2 years old. The owner has 3 small doodle dogs, if she does walk them, they’re pulling ahead yapping at anything that moves. The owner sees it as easy money and knows nothing about dogs
