A word for the responsible breeders, who are registered inspected and love their dogs. I rescued for years, 9 I. Total, plus I fostered for the breed specific charity I still volunteer for. The arrival of babies and toddler grandchildren meant when our existing dogs died, we bought puppies rather than risk rescues. My experience is rescues are increasingly complex so unsuitable visiting infants.
One of ours arrived at 10 months having been with the breeder, living in the house with their other dogs. My younger dog came at 9 weeks, his litter lived in the house with the breeder. Both breeders needed a reference from someone/a trainer for example before they’d even speak to us. Neither advertise, they only sell to people with a reference, or previous owners. They breed an show their specific breed. I have 5 generation health records and temperament as well as health key to these responsible breeders
This is very true. We wanted to get a rescue after our old boy died, but we couldn't because our GS, then two, was living with us at the time, and no reputable rescue would rehome a dog to a family with a young child (which, by the way, I totally understand and agree with). We ended up getting our current dog from a very responsible breeder - she vetted us very thoroughly before deciding that we would make a suitable home for one of her pups, and needless to say, we did our research on her too. Not all breeders are irresponsible or purely in it for the money, but like anything, it is the irresponsible ones who give everyone a bad name.
