It’s just been on the news that Charles has cancer and is not taking any duties for now

annsixty Tue 06-Feb-24 17:58:56

I will admit this was some years ago but I was seen on Dec 1st.
Diagnosis given on Dec 8th. Operated on Dec 15th.
Started Radiotherapy in February.
All NHS, followed up for over 10 years.

Which country are you living in Parsley3 ? .

SheepyIzzy Tue 06-Feb-24 17:48:14

As per expected some of you dislike my post, well, so what? I have stated a simple fact that within days (according to the news) DAYS!!! Cancer was diagnosed and treatment started! Very lucky isnt he? DAYS!! My mum is STILL waiting for a consultation from a specialist (will be 2 years in March), we've had a 2nd specialist look at the case and apologise for the delay, she'll look into it and refer her...... We're still waiting! I've broken down on phone to GP about this, she's apologised, promised she would look into it....... We're still waiting.

Now if mum had HRH in front of her name, then she would be seen straight away.

That's all I meant, privilege gets you treated extra faster.

But not the traits of the gutter press.

I just want him to be able to have treatment in a dignified manner with media speculation and nosey parkerism kept to a minimum. Still, the paparazzi will be rubbing their hands at the prospect of getting candid snaps of him for the edification of the great British public.

And what sort of snaps do you have in mind?

I think you are underestimating the sympathy and understanding of the great British public.

But, unlike many others, treatment is instant?? How many people, who rely on the NHS, HAVE to WAIT to see a specialist? Cancer is horrible for anyone, but you can be sure, he'll get better treatment than those who are the same age, younger or older, who can't afford to go private.

Totally disagree.

In November 2023, DH was seen by GP, referred to hospital for biopsy, got results all within two weeks, on the NHS.

We were fortunate as it was not cancerous.

DH went for investigation, tests done and in the same day, operated on two days later. NHS.

Mind you, the care immediately afterwards left something to be desired.

Yes he's privileged and has started treatment quicker than many others. Him not getting quick treatment wouldn't make it any quicker for anyone else. I challenge that he'll get better treatment. My third and hopefully last cancer was referred to a prestigious London Hospital. My treatment was identical to anyone who was paying privately, except they probably got to the see the consultant at every visit, while I sometimes saw the registrar.

He is our King. What do you expect? What an unpleasant post.

I wondered if the type of cancer might not have been disclosed because it’s one that doesn’t have a good prognosis. I sincerely hope not and wish His Majesty a swift and full recovery.

I know we shouldn’t speculate, but we do as we’re humans, and this was my first thought too. sad

HelterSkelter1 Tue 06-Feb-24 16:58:00

I think there will be huge speculation about the type of cancer anyway for weeks to come. There will be false rumours. "Inside information" will be rife. The gutter tabloids will have a field day. Far better to release the information.

Kign Charles will have accurate information regarding prognosis from day one from his medical team. He won't be reading the press.
And to be flippant thank goodness he is having proper cancer treatment and not homeopathy.

MissInterpreted Tue 06-Feb-24 16:49:39

It has been reported that he was very pleased there was a reported increase in men coming forward for prostate checks after his recent announcement, so who knows, perhaps he may decide to say what kind of cancer he has too, in the hope that it may encourage others to come forward? At the end of the day, it should be his decision though.

Anniebach Tue 06-Feb-24 16:42:06

I doubt what type of cancer will be shared, fear of it being released

MayBee70 Tue 06-Feb-24 16:33:04

I read an article about Bob Champion the other day which said how the research done by his charities about testicular cancer has meant one would be very unlucky to die of it. I admire the King for his stance on the environment and I hope he’ll be around for a long time to come because he will have so many things he will have had planned on environmental issues.

Calendargirl Tue 06-Feb-24 16:23:52

I imagine Charles would have told his sons and siblings what type of cancer he has when he spoke to them originally.

I don’t think we shall hear any more about what form it is until the inevitable rumours start, no doubt from ‘a well placed source’.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 06-Feb-24 16:17:40

I’m not so sure. Once the type of cancer is announced all the experts will be wheeled out to talk about his prognosis, how likely it is to have spread and so forth. There will be huge speculation. I hope it’s kept under wraps until his treatment has been completed and he knows what the future holds. However we can imagine that the less savoury members of the press will be trying to buy information from anyone who may have access to it. I hope they fail miserably. Poor man, it’s so cruel when he has waited a lifetime to become King. I trust it won’t turn out to be literally a lifetime. He deserves time to see all his plans come to fruition.

HelterSkelter1 Tue 06-Feb-24 16:07:05

I think the type of cancer will be announced once Prince Harry has met his father. Most families would not tell everyone until all the immediate family have been told in person. That's how it was in my family with my cancer.

Even more important in the RF with the family dynamics.

Then the world and his dog can be told.

Esmay Tue 06-Feb-24 15:44:28

I'm really sorry if anyone has a cancer diagnosis .
It's a shame that King Charles hasn't had a few years to settle into his reign and perhaps enjoy it .
At least , the cancer has been diagnosed early .

We don't actually know what's wrong with the Princess of Wales - I hope that it's not serious .

It's tragic that Harry has caused his family so much pain and disappointment .

nadateturbe Tue 06-Feb-24 15:18:01

Ronib I think you're right in that everyone has a different approach.

I felt extremely sad when I heard the news. I think King Charles is a kind and caring human being. He genuinely cares so much for the environment. I wish him a full recovery and a long reign.

That’s what I thought too. He’s only been King for five minutes and an unexpected cancer result.

Rishi was in there like lightening, speaking on 5Live. His PR people were quick off the mark - here we go......

So?
He’s the PM after all.

The royal family are a very close family , with just a few exceptions
