Just reported. Only 47. RIP.

Aveline Sat 17-Feb-24 10:10:55

I read that Navalny's murder would have no effect on Putin's standing in Russia. He ordered it because he could with impunity. One day he'll get what he deserves...

Witzend Sat 17-Feb-24 10:18:12

Bastard bloody Putin. 🤬
I can’t help wondering whether, if hundreds of us made wax/playdough/pastry images of him, all at the same time, and stuck cocktail sticks all over it, it’d have any effect.

(I know it wouldn’t, but it’s a satisfyingly vengeful thought.)

Aveline Sat 17-Feb-24 10:20:54

It is a good suggestion Witzend. Maybe you could knit one?

Actually ........
I have a lot of very sharp pins.

There's more than one of him, though, have you noticed?

My husband has a goodly supply of six inch nails …. perhaps better if left out in the rain to get rusty first.

rafichagran Sat 17-Feb-24 10:52:55

RIP A very brave man.

JenniferEccles Sat 17-Feb-24 11:08:55

Oh yes I have read that he uses doubles, or at least it’s thought he does.

Weren’t there rumours about him being seriously ill too a while back? Wishful thinking maybe.

I would love to know what the average Russian really thinks of him. They can’t all be brainwashed surely?

I've just signed this: secure.avaaz.org/campaign/en/navalny_tribute_loc/?

Apparently his body has gone missing after being turned over to investigators!!!

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 17-Feb-24 13:01:20

Quelle surprise.

Legg7e Sat 17-Feb-24 13:42:57

Of course Russians aren't brainwashed. It's fairly easy to see on you tube. Of course many are reluctant to be on camera.

maddyone Sat 17-Feb-24 13:48:29

There is no way that the authorities will want his body to undergo an autopsy.

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 17-Feb-24 13:50:06

The next thing we will hear will be that he’s been cremated. I wouldn’t be surprised if that has already happened.

Iam64 Sat 17-Feb-24 13:50:22

I’ve read that older Russians are more likely to support Putin, younger people to mistrust him. It must be so scary and dangerous to actively oppose him

I wouldn’t waste any yarn on that evil man. A bit of leftover uncooked pastry, however - the bits that would usually go out for the birds….

AGAA4 Sat 17-Feb-24 13:55:19

I do fear for his wife who has denounced Putin and his regime to the world. She is a very brave woman.

Exactly my words to DH... I really can't see them giving up his body.

sodapop Sat 17-Feb-24 14:19:16

All the Russian people seen paying their respects are brave too, they will be watched.
I agree GSM about the cremation that will be the next thing we hear no doubt.

Maremia Sat 17-Feb-24 18:02:13

So very sad. The Russians who openly mourn him are being very brave too.

And being arrested by the brutal thugs which are the police.

silverlining48 Sat 17-Feb-24 18:17:22

His poor mother has travelled to the prison to see her son’s body, but unsurprisingly it’s not there. No doubt it will be cremated befire anyone can do a post mortem. .

Romola Sat 17-Feb-24 18:17:53

Another assassination by the Putin regime. Alexei decided to martyr himself by returning to Russia. Eventually, it is to be hoped, he will be recognised as a,secular saint in his own country.
Meanwhile, I have a feeling of dread in respect of the geopolitical situation and find myself wondering if this was how people felt in the late 1930s.

silverlining48 Sat 17-Feb-24 18:19:52

Wherever tyrants rule, it takes great courage to stand against them.

NotSpaghetti Sat 17-Feb-24 18:22:57

That's terrible silverlining48
I can't imagine what that's like on top of everything else.

NanKate Sat 17-Feb-24 20:15:45

On the day of his funeral (when his body has been located !) I will put a photo of him in my front window with some flowers. Perhaps others may like to do something similar in memory of a very brave man. 💐
