Has Kemi Badenoch gone too far this time?

Badenoch is now 2-1 on favourite to be next Tory leader, heaven help us

I find Ms Badenoch's manner to be increasingly belligerent and off-putting, and also find it hard to believe some of what she says. It's almost as though she has decided what would be the most advantageous thing (for her) to say and then she sticks to her story come hell or high water, even if it becomes increasingly obvious that she is not right. I can't imagine her backing down, even then.
I didn't get this impression of her when she was standing to be leader of the Tory party so perhaps she had taken advice on how to present herself?

Yes, this. The way that Truss and Kwarteng trashed the economy and still do not appear to understand their incompetence scares me. None of those you name would ever admit to being wrong or making a mistake - even a forced "apology" would not give the impression that they were sorry for what they did.

Women’s rights will never be safe under Labour, SNP, the Greens and the Lib Dems. I will not be voting Tory so am politically homeless.
I never said that Badenoch, Patel or Braverman were leadership material but I can’t help liking the fact that Badenoch at least isn’t afraid to stand up for women’s rights - unlike the rest of the shower at Westminster and Edinburgh.

I often wonder how a country the size of America got lumbered with a choice between Trump & Biden but we are not much better. Call Me Dave, throwing his toys out of his pram when he lost the EU referendum, despite saying he would stay, no matter the result. Theresa May, far too soft to stand up for anything, Boris who struggles to separate fact from fiction, Liz Truss, there are no words for her short, damaging stint and now Sunak. Not elected by the country or by the Tory members who put him behind Truss in the first vote but somehow he is PM. Badenoch seems to have all the credentials to follow this lot. Bring in the clowns!!!

Lots of angry, controlling people in the Tory party. We are still a democracy.

I think the fact people are still waiting for compensation gives weight to the statement by the Post Office .

I honestly don't know how I would vote in the next election, except that it couldn't be the Tories, Labour under Keir Starmer, the Lib Dems or any of the far-right Tory splinter groups.
We need an alternative.

I hold zero brief for ms Badenoch but I'd like to see Mr Staunton's proof of what was said and who said it and why he hadn't mentioned this earlier in the process. Assuming that what he has said is factually accurate, I would ask what he did about it at the time of the discussion because if he did nothing he is as bad as whoever said it to him, assuming that someone actually did.

Unless there is hard evidence we have to judge on the “balance or probabilities”, for me the government not paying compensation fits with having the Post Office stalling the process”

An awful lot of court cases are settled that way.

For me this is an example of something very worrying indeed - democracy does depend on a reasonable commitment to truth telling, and it seems possible - even likely - that Kemi B is not seriously committed to this. We do not have to look far for other senior politicians who put political advantage ahead of truth and self interest ahead of the interests of the nation as a whole. I look back to years when I did not agree with the government but did not have the concern that they were not truth tellers.

Well of course no one will care what I think as I’m not a member of the Conservative Party (or any other political party) but I think Penny Mordaunt would make a good next leader of the Conservative Party. The other women mentioned here are far too controversial to be leader.

Staunton at the moment talking about Badenoch’s - he is not best pleased!

As Leader of the House PM has a low party political profile currently, however in the leadership contest she was no moderate, although not an extremist like Badenoch.

How rude of her not to turn up at the parliamentary committee today. Said she has more important things to do. What an arrogant person she is.

Did anyone see Gullis questioning Staunton? Blimey he really is dim. His question fell apart as soon as he asked it, then he just chuntered on meaninglessly.

Sounds as though she’s accused the wrong person and questions will be asked in parliament next week. If she’d said it outside of parliament she would be in big trouble and the taxpayer would, yet again, be having to pay someones legal fees. Imo it’s time parliamentary privilege was done away with.She’s a loose cannon (along with Braverman, Patel et al…)
