I have never seen such a bloody shambles ever!!

maddyone Fri 23-Feb-24 17:05:55

Reading through all this, I think I’m changing my mind about it all. I’m now thinking that the Labour motion was the one that should have been debated perhaps. I was thinking originally that the Scottish motion should have been debated simply because that was the one put forward first. Nonetheless I find it difficult to reconcile the fact that KS put pressure on the speaker. That should never have happened.

I do think that people in public office should never be subjected to protest outside of their private residence. By all means protest outside of public offices, town halls, parliament etc

Isn’t there something in the HR Act about the right to privacy?

(Just to wind the right wing up😄😄)

Why would it wind the right wing up, or anyone else for that matter?
I should have thought that everyone on here would think that people in public office should never be subjected to protest outside of their residence. In fact they should never be harassed anywhere. Rachel Reeves was apparently hassled and harassed by a group of Muslim women in London. How dare they? What right have they to do that?
Indeed there is something in the HR Act that protects privacy Whitewave, and I feel quite annoyed that Rachel Reeves was hassled and probably intimidated like that.

maddyone, Starmer and Hoyle deny any pressure was put on the speaker. My observation is they’re more honest than the tories making the allegation,

foxie48 Fri 23-Feb-24 17:18:59

I don't think there's any evidence that KS put pressure on the speaker. There's a distinct difference between "putting pressure" on someone and "urging" them, not the same thing at all and both KS and the speaker denied there was any pressure used.

maddyone Fri 23-Feb-24 17:27:12

Was it the Tories who made the allegation? I didn’t realise, I thought it was the SNP.

Anniebach Fri 23-Feb-24 17:29:59

What do those who wanted a immediate ceasefire think would
be the outcome, Israel and Hamas say ‘the UK want us to stop’
so they stop ?

Iam64 Fri 23-Feb-24 17:32:13

Both I think maddy. It suits both to undermine Starmer and the speaker. We need grown up politics

LizzieDrip Fri 23-Feb-24 17:46:49

My understanding is that Starmer lobbied the speaker on the issue, putting forward any relevant information e.g. threats to Labour MPs after the November ceasefire vote etc. This lobbying is completely within the rules so criticism of Starmer by other parties is totally unfounded. The Tories & SNP tried to lay a trap for Labour and, when it didn’t work, they both showed their true colours … and walked out.

Exactly, well put LizzieDrip

Andrew Feinstein Jewish South African politician on why Israel is an apartheid state worse than SA, and why Israel will happily kill Palestinians. It isn't a conceptI had considered and it is truly shocking,

Will suit your bias this one. Perhaps he has bias too. No thank you.

Yes he's really biased. He's a Jew who lost family in the holocaust. He's a SA politician who worked closely with Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu. He's an expert on apartheid.
It's the sort of bias we should be listening to.

Don’t we just. I was amazed when I saw what had happened that night (sorry, can’t remember whether it Wednesday or Tuesday, but thinking it was Wednesday, not that it matters.)

Aveline Fri 23-Feb-24 19:21:22

Storm in a teacup. The issues are far more important than this posturing from political parties.

SNP have a general election this year and Labour is certainly gaining ground again in Scotland, how could they use the horrors of Gaza and Israel to get more support

Ignore away, There are none so blind as those who will not see.
Why is Andrew Feinstein partisan? He's a Jewish South African. he quotes Nelson Mandela, he's worked against apartheid all of his life.

Anniebach Fri 23-Feb-24 21:16:15

Feinstein, Owen Jones is a fan, need i say more

Well yes I think so. You dismiss the views of a Jewish man whose mother hid from the Nazis, who lost family members in Auschwitz, who was active in the ANC and worked to destroy apartheid in South Africa just because someone you don't like likes him. That isn't reasoned argument is it?

It was Wednesday 😃
What a debacle it all was! No wonder many say they won’t be bothering to vote next time, I predict a low turnout.

Well...things are certainly coming to a head, and people are being forced to confront the truth of what is happening in this country.
Perhaps now those in power will get their heads out of the clouds and face up to reality.

I notice Braverman is busy trying to stir up hate once again. She got sacked for doing just that, but it hasn’t stopped her. 30p
Lee is doing the same.

What is the matter with these awful people.

Our country needs leaders who encourage and work for unity in all our communities.

maddyone Sat 24-Feb-24 07:25:02

Yes you're right, but we also need to stamp down on those who want to change our way of life, Islamists stopping a candidate from appearing at hustings in Rochdale for instance, because they don't like his views, well I don't like their views ether, shall we stop then from producing a candidate. I can see were Braverman is coming from.
