this is an awful case in the news over the weekend.

34 bodies removed from the premises by police.

I have never understood why anyone would want to be cremated.

Why? Genuine question. Cremation is the preferred option for many people now - and with increasing pressure on space in graveyards, maybe it's time to be looking at alternatives, such as resomation.

My body is registered for donation, that’s providing I still have all the bits they need to look at 😂

My heart goes out for the poor families.

I can never understand people having jewellery or even keeping urns of ashes They are all mixed up and you may just be getting wood ash back anyway, even from the legit firms
I sawan elderly gent on TV over this case in tears thinking he had his wives ashes and being told he didn’t

It s all a terrible con in my opinion The prices are ridiculous
Why are we forced to have a coffin to be burnt (or reused) why can’t you be burnt in a cotton bag

You can, I think, depending on your wishes.
The pure cremations just use a bag, as far as I know.

Just be aware that you need to have a Plan B in place, just in case they can't accept your body at the time. My mother had stipulated that she wanted to donate her body, but when she did, they couldn't accept it as they already had their full quota.

I think they take the body away in a coffin.
Does that mean they re-ypuse the coffins?

MissAdventure Sun 17-Mar-24 11:32:02

Oh, do they?
I never realised that
I shall have to look it up properly.
I thought they wrapped you up in hessian or something.

Maybe my brain made that up, though. 🙂

M0nica Sun 17-Mar-24 22:54:44

I think re-useable coffins are a very good idea, where cremations are involved.

MissAdventure Sun 17-Mar-24 22:57:40

I had a read up earlier, and it is possible to be cremated in a shroud.

The problem is securing the body, as it moves, apparently.

It can be done, though.

OldFrill Sun 17-Mar-24 23:03:31

Cardboard is becoming very popular.

MissAdventure Sun 17-Mar-24 23:05:10

My neighbours daughter had a cardboard coffin.
It wasn't cheap though, or not much cheaper than the usual ones.

Callistemon21 Sun 17-Mar-24 23:06:23

Someone I know had a most elaborate wicker one. It was beautiful but presumably was cremated too ☹

MissAdventure Sun 17-Mar-24 23:08:36

My mum and my daughter had willow coffins.

MissAdventure Sun 17-Mar-24 23:14:58

I'm buggered if I want my funeral costs to include a coffin!
I want to be wrapped in some hessian or something.

Callistemon21 Sun 17-Mar-24 23:22:47

I don't want one that fastens down.

MissAdventure Sun 17-Mar-24 23:23:35

Awkward.... right to the end.
Contrary! grin

pinkquartz Sun 17-Mar-24 23:54:51

I think using my size double 100 % Duvet cover will stand in well for a shroud. And it is organic and about 15 years old.

Don't you need something that won't leak??

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 18-Mar-24 08:58:27

Exactly. Some crematoria insist on coffins.
