Frank Hester, who has paid two lots of £5 million pounds into the Tory coffers has made some really appalling remarks about Diane Abbott. I cannot bear to repeat them but you can read about them here,
www.theguardian.com/politics/2024/mar/11/biggest-tory-donor-looking-diane-abbott-hate-all-black-women
He has made his fortune out of tech including lucrative contracts with the NHS.
I wonder if the Tories will now return his money?

Katie's opening sentence Maizie was "..... it is typical of the attitude of Tory party members" which is offensive. There was no mention of some until writing about when she was a waitress at a Conservative Association dinner.

For anyone having doubts about the wrongness of everything that this man said, read this twitter post from Adil Ray this morning.

If a Muslim said he wanted an MP shot, they'd be arrested, their house raided and Muslims in the country would face further scrutiny. A privileged man says the same and he continues to be a major influence on the government.

Typical does not mean all but the comments you hear in private are commonplace and the women are every bit as bad.

Probably 12 yrs ago we had dinner with a couple, he was a friend of my husband, she was a Tory Councillor, after a few glasses of wine the conversation became very unPC, I didnt want to call her out it was her house. So I asked:-

“Sue in a former life did you go the same school as Atilla the Hun,” “ Ah yes young Atilla I taught him well”.
She wasnt included on my guest list.

So my experience with local Tories has not been good

Katie59 if you put Muslim, Jew or any other group in your post it would be unacceptable so why do you continue to demonise Tories?

Well said Adil!

Actually MaizieD Katie59 posted

some of the conversations

along with implying that staff were difficult to find for the following year, nowhere did she post ^some people^

I actually said that some was the operative (i.e key) word.

She wasn't being blanket offensive about all tories... or even about all the people at the function.

(I didn't use the word people at all, but quite honestly, if 'people' don't have conversations I'd like to know who do...)

Oh well, I'll leave it to you and Katie59 to fight it out, GG13.

I just thought you were jumping to an unjustified conclusion..

No fight from me MaizieD

Despite being politically homeless, I feel that it is unfair to make disparaging remarks about any group of people because of where they put their X, whether they be Conservatives, Labour, Lib Dem’s or any other party, or Independent candidates.

I don'tthink Sunak will retyrn the money but this whole situation has probaly cost the Yories much more than that.. irreparable I hope

I agree, although I may make an exception to those who believe the nonsense spouted by Reform PLC. grin

The Tories have been badly damaged by this.

Reading that Farage is gunning for Sunak.

Not sure how that would work.

Keeps the attention on him and tries to make him look good?

True

Esmay Sun 17-Mar-24 17:59:48

Horrendous .
So he has an OBE and now he's just waiting for his knighthood , which is more or less guaranteed after his donations .

Sorry to disagree, but I think political parties and party politics cannot be “grouped” in the same way as Muslims, Jews, People of Colour, Christian’s, it’s simply not the same, IMO

Of course it’s not the same. Political affiliation is a choice, and says a lot about people’s priorities and views. It’s not remotely the same as race or religion.

This man's attack on Diane Abbot was appalling and indenfesible.

I do not agree with Diane Abbot on many things, and to be honest, I sometimes find her a bit irritating.

However, I do greatly respect her. Diane Abbot has been a brave pioneer, a trailblazer. She stood up for what she believed and showed that being a woman, and a black Briton, did not make her any less worthy of becoming a Member of Parliament at a time when misogyny and racial prejudice were still rife

Since then she has endured being the most vilified MP, because she is both black and female and dares to speak her mind.

So anyone like this Tory donor who still thinks it is OK, to attack her in this way is, in my opinion, beneath contempt.

Having said that what has shocked me even more, is the discovery that this appalling man, who has just this year donated £10m, or is it £15m, to the Tory Party, made this money out of supplying IT services to the NHS.

Surely no-one who donates a significant sum (say more that £100 in a year) to any political party, but particularly the party in government, should ever be granted a contract to supply services to the NHS or any public service?

There is a word for this - CORRUPTION>
