That latest is £500 million on the ridiculous Rwanda scheme.

Everything you look at is money gone down the drain because of the Tories economic uselessness.

A report by Best for Britain estimated that they have wasted north of £99.4 billion pounds - just since 2019.

We can no longer afford the Tories - no wonder our country is looking shabbier by the day.

I totally agree with you. It's quite depressing.

Interestingly the EU, also swamped with illegal migration, is exploring a Rwanda style solution to the problem facing the whole of Europe.

I have said all along that coping with the ever increasing influx of migrants is something every country involved has to deal with.

I don’t know any more than anyone else if the Rwanda plan will work as a deterrent, but at least the Tories are trying to do something.

Be under no illusion, immigration will soar under Starmer, and then heaven helps us.

"Be under no illusion, immigration will soar under Starmer, and then heaven helps us."

Evidence? Reasons? Policy is to reduce the backlog and speed up processing amongst other plans. It the Rwanda money had just been spent on this...

Just how much taxpayers money have the Tories wasted
But should we worry if taxation does not fund public spending?

I'm just horrified with the way the Tories have spent our money, and the corruption, I see another Tory donor who gave the conservatives £5m is getting a knighthood.

And they say Labour is bad with the economy. I can't wait to get the gov't out and vote Labour so we get our public services like police, NHS, courts etc restored to a better level.

It's not just direct wasteful spend - it's also poor decisions on a large scale. Privatising the water boards as monopolies enabled large profits to be made by shareholders at public expense and now it looks as if the only remedies to their failures will cost the taxpayer and consumer zillions to clear up the Tory sewage mess. And if they are nationalised the shareholders will claim compensation from the taxpayer. What a mess for Labour to inherit.

Wales has spent £33 on implementing the 20mph throughout the Principality, which has according to recent reports increased pollution and accidents, and voted for 36 new Senedd members, up from the present 60 at an expected cost of around £90 million. So both parties are as bad as one another.

It's still public money, Callistemon. The government doesn't own it. It's still important that the government is held to account for misspending it.

They haven't implemented 20mph throughout Wales.
Some evidence of your claims of increased pollution and accidents would be useful.

Evidence for your last sentence or is that just your own opinion?

Wyllow3 Sun 31-Mar-24 00:01:17

Yes, I'd like a bit of evidence/explanation. Its quite something to allege with no back-up.

Curtaintwitcher Sun 31-Mar-24 07:25:01

It's no wonder so many people are reluctant to work when they see how their taxes are spent. The public should have more say on everything the government do. They show nothing but contempt for the British people.

I want to see the evidence you cite too please Pippa000, because I can’t find anything that backs up what you’ve said. All the evidence I’ve seen says is that there is less pollution at 20mph because traffic travels more smoothly, rather than accelerating and decelerating, which happens more frequently at higher speeds. No official figures on accident rates have been published yet either have they?

Out with the old and in with the new

Add £34.000 to the running total. That's double the estimated cost for Michelle Donelan recent libel case. Why are the taxpayer's footing the bill for her misguided remarks?

Katie59 Fri 12-Apr-24 07:08:49

These are gross under estimates HS2 is £100bn alone and over the years probably the same amount in addition, Brexit alone wasted £ billions.
In fairness I’m trying to think of any positive things the Tories have achieved, I’m struggling maybe someone else can remember any.

With the General Election on the horizon, I cannot think of anything that runs efficiently. Nothing is fit for purpose and that is after 14 years in Government. I have been a mostly Tory voter all my life but not this time. I cannot bring myself to vote for Sunak & Co.
