Mark Drakeford (69) steps down as First Minister for Wales this Easter. This man came second to him in the voting in 2018. Looking him up on Wiki he is 49, and was health minister between 2016 and May 2021, overseeing Wales' initial response to Covid.

He says that experience would stand him in good stead to be first minister, but he has also been criticised after admitting he had not read key documents relating to pandemic planning.

Any of our GN community know of him/fancy his chances? I admit I only became curious about Drakeford’s successor because of today’s Covid Inquiry session and became curious.

I'll ask if he's interested 😁
But I very much doubt it.

A Māori would be described as of Polynesia decent but not too many clamouring to be in British Politics I don’t think

Callistemon21 Sat 16-Mar-24 18:20:22

Yes they are.
It would be interesting to have a Mãori First Minister especially as this cousin has Welsh ancestry too 🙂

(I was answering Siope's rather patronising post.)

Aren’t they a different race classification Callustemon, Polynesian? One of my nephews in Australia’s wife is half Māori. Mind, I guess the chance of us having a Māori first minister is somewhat more remote than one of Afro- Caribbean descent.

I preffered the bother one. I thought he spoke a lot of sense.

BlueBelle

There’s not really too many classifications 62Granny
Asians originate from Asia and black folk are of African descent

As DH has a cousin who has Maori ancestors, how would Siope describe him please?

Callistemon21 Sat 16-Mar-24 18:05:26

Siope

Have to love whitesplaining, especially from folk who can’t tell two different ethnic backgrounds apart.

Would you like to write out full guidance please?
As wide-ranging and comprehensive as possible

My family members are the ones I'd ask for guidance not a Gransetter.

I thought that when they, BBC news, said that he was the first Black leader as you have Rishi Sinai and Humza Yousaf in Scotland, my DD informed me they are classed as Asian not Black. I can't keep up with all the classification.

Well, I would always have said that but got slapped down a few years ago and told they were black (whether they liked it or not).

I think the turnout was only 16%? If so, a very poor show. Mind you as my dear old dad used to say “if you don’t vote you have no right to moan for the next four years”. Well said, Dad.

Well, I can moan because I didn't have a vote. It was only Welsh Labour Party members and affiliated Trades Unions.

Sunak not Sinai, spell /auto check😡

"I have the honour of becoming the first black leader in any European country" So what colour is Rishi then, green?

Mixed Race and check out Rushi Sunak think you might notice something.

He means of Afro-Caribbean descent, as opposed to Asian, and in that regard he is correct. His mother was a Zambian chicken farmer, his father a Welsh vet.

Sorry folks. Page jumped somehow.

growstuff, I would never throw any book in a bin. Whether I agreed with its contents or not.

Anniebach Sat 16-Mar-24 14:06:34

And it was a narrow win

I voted for him

Callistemon21 Sat 16-Mar-24 13:32:40

I don't care what ethnicity he is as long as he can do the job. Which I doubt on past record.

Urmstongran Sat 16-Mar-24 13:27:02

And he’s mixed race.

midgey Sat 16-Mar-24 13:10:23

Rishi is brown!
