News flash just now but she says she feels really well and she looks it.

Starting chemo soon. The abdominal surgery found cancer.

Like several other posters I do suspect that someone, given that three members of hospital staff are under investigation for attempting to access records, has managed to uncover the subsequent diagnosis made after surgery. Possibly the Royal Family decided to pre empt an explosion of so called 'revelations'. Poor lady - she has had to endure weeks of speculative reports, while feeling unwell. Catherine's health is a private matter, and it's hard to understand why people have this prurient attitude towards the personal lives of others. I hope she and her family are now left in peace.

if people stop posting she will be left in peace.

ronib Sun 24-Mar-24 11:57:42

lemsip do you think that the Princess of Wales is reading comments on Gnet?
I don’t. Even if her mother or Queen Camilla read the comments, assuming they have time, are they likely to tell the princess?
Gnet is small fry…..

Kate1949 Sun 24-Mar-24 12:00:03

Of course she won't be left in peace if Gransnetters stop posting!

Galaxy Sun 24-Mar-24 12:03:23

No of you create a living soap opera with actual people within it then no they wont be left alone.

ronib Sun 24-Mar-24 13:08:35

The Royal Family is in charge of the narrative surely? They know how to handle soap operas? Centuries of experience!

fancythat Sun 24-Mar-24 13:51:39

So what has happened recently?
Not saying you are wrong, but are they wishing they had done things differently this time around?

*if people stop posting she will be left in peace.*

... you mean no more editorials and articles in the meeja by the various royal correspondents, experts, watchers - not to mention the 'body-language' experts? Or the readership in the 'comments' sections?

I doubt us posting here on GN - largely, very supportive, will make a jot of difference, nor influence the media or wider public to leave her in peace.

Galaxy Sun 24-Mar-24 15:06:42

So therefore you cant control what people say. It's not going to work. Certainly not in this day and age. There was a time when through control of the press etc it was possible, not now.

I lean towards your way of thinking Dickens, and that of many others, ronib, Kate1949, etc on GN.
I'm trying not to sound patronising here, but we are a group of (mainly) older women who have seen 70 or 80 decades of the Royal Family's sagas, both uplifting, happy, sad, questionable, admirable, interesting etc etc. So naturally the dynamics of the family will get discussed across the generations, mainly because we have witnessed things getting repeated, and even happening in our own families. Yes, there is something of the soap opera about the Royal Family, but if nothing else, GNetters have seen it all before and their views are valid. Just occasionally there are some comments which are very disrespectful and spiteful to the people being spoken about, and I wish GNHQ would remove them.
However, it will make no difference whether another word about the royals is said on GN or not, and the calls to stop talking about the subject on here will just be ignored.

I didn't see your post .
I'm wishing your husband well and hopefully the remission will continue .

JaneJudge Sun 24-Mar-24 15:47:52

I felt sad she was forced to address the nation. It must be difficult enough, privilege or not, without the whole world knowing

Kate1949 Sun 24-Mar-24 15:59:30

Thank you Esmay.

She is a world-wide figure.
Sadly, it comes with the teritory.

Yes, so do I JaneJudge. Poor young woman, she needs to be left in peace now to continue her treatment and make a good recovery.

Someone posted about above about what they'd do in the circumstances:
Personally, I would have told everyone what operation I was having, also I would not have edited the photograph. Also by saying, what sort of cancer she has, may have helped other women & the cancer charities raise more money
I was shocked by that.

So easy to say, so hard to do when you've had that diagnosis for anyone, especially when you have such young children you need to break the news to and shield from all the publicity.
It's difficult enough without being in the media spotlight.

No, it's intrusive.

We had no need to know exact medical details, only that Catherine would not be working or seen in public for a while.

well obviously I meant on here!!

Joseann Sun 24-Mar-24 16:41:26

lemsip I'm just curious why you ask other GNetters to stop talking about the events of late, yet in the last month or yourself have started various threads .......
Princess of Wales leaves hospital
P of W seen in car with her mum
P of W is on the mend
Harry's Visa etc.

Joseann Sun 24-Mar-24 16:42:10

* month or so you yourself

Joseann Sun 24-Mar-24 16:43:34

What I mean, is why start threads if you don't want any discussion? Just curious.

I know it is intrusive.
I know we dont need to know exact medical details.

But Catherine herself felt forced to address the nation, as JaneJudge says.

As others have said, a few posts above, neither you nor I can stop people talking.
The longer the silences, the worse it all became.

That post @16:08 sums up what is going on in the media.

An understanding of how hard it is to have people expecting to know intimate details of your personal life.
Followed by
The dismissal of any right to have personal details which you don’t want to share.

Followed by
The truth that it is intrusive to demand such personal details and a suggestion of what we really only needed to know.
The media definitely followed the second section when they asked
“What haven’t we been told?”

fancythat Sun 24-Mar-24 17:23:20

Catherine did not have to share.

Which personally takes me back to, by JaneJudge,
I felt sad she was forced to address the nation. It must be difficult enough, privilege or not, without the whole world knowing

Anniebach Sun 24-Mar-24 17:31:18

fancythat you excused the horrific attacks on her by dismissing it as ‘goes with the territory’
