This is very worrying. Yes, William Wragg was an idiot, and he did right to come forward, but he’s not alone - it could be a sign of infiltration of politicians’ private lives through blackmail orchestrated by a malevolent foreign source to undermine Westminster. I really hope it proves to be a UK based chancer.

Wragg has not kept his sex life separate from his professional life, and his subsequent actions have shown him to be weak, lacking character and willing to sacrifice others in an attempt to protect his own position.
He has proved himself totally unfit to work as a teacher.

He's proved himself to be unfit to be an MP.

Explain what he did that makes him unfit to be a teacher.

I'm not sure that holding primary teachers to a lower standard of behaviour than politicians would go down well with the GTC.🙄

Casdon Tue 09-Apr-24 19:40:16

Well, he’s just left the Tory Party of his own volition and will be independent. That’s a turn up.

What part of his behaviour would adversely affect his involvement in teaching children?

😯
I'm speechless!

If a teacher gave out confidential details of colleagues to total strangers on a dodgy website and those colleagues received unsolicited messages and intimate photos then I would expect that teacher to be subject to disciplinary measures and even dismissal.

Grandmabatty Wed 10-Apr-24 09:49:54

vegansrock precisely. Thank you for your succinct answer. And you too Callistemon. I fear Maisie is being disingenuous or downright argumentative! 😂 I didn't bother to reply because, 'frankly my dear, I don't give a damn.'

I'm being both. But if you can't be bothered to explain it's OK by me.

Thanks vegansrock.
It's not often I'm speechless but it was late at night!

And possibly confidential details of pupils too.

We do expect teachers and those in charge of young people to adhere to a moral code. We know it doesn't always happen but it is probable that it's more likely than with MPs.

Not only colleagues' details, but teachers have access to all sorts of pupils' personal details. I would be extremely wary of employing anybody who didn't recognise the confidential nature of those details.

So no-one thinks that Wragg might have learned his lesson?

Using the criteria of 'might give out confidential information' makes him effectively unemployable anywhere.

Callistemon21 Wed 10-Apr-24 10:21:57

How sad.

I have no idea if he's learned his lesson. What I do know is that if I were on an interview panel for a teacher, I would have to ask the compulsory safeguarding questions and I'd want some evidence that he could be trusted with confidential information.

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 10-Apr-24 10:31:27

Even if he’s learned his lesson, he has I think rendered himself pretty unemployable. Maybe he will have to do charitable work as Profumo did.

Katie59 Wed 10-Apr-24 11:43:42

There are plenty of menial jobs where sensitive information is not involved, more likely he will get a job in the city where leaking information is a way of life.

Urmstongran

What struck me is the lack of social awareness. If anybody asked me for the phone number of a friend/a colleague etc I’d always ask permission of that person first. Surely that’s just common good manners?

This. Everybody knows what grindr is for and to not realise the consequences of using such an app is ridiculously stupid. Should he be allowed out alone without a minder and can he tie his own shoelaces?

mabon1 Wed 10-Apr-24 11:48:28

This MP and others are the people for whom we should show respect. Oh yes, sending "intimate" photographs of themselves, then moaning, what an idiot.

Callistemon21 Wed 10-Apr-24 11:52:12

Everybody knows what grindr is for
Well, I'd never heard of it!

Casdon Wed 10-Apr-24 13:12:00

I’d imagine he’ll do a Nadine and write juicy bestsellers, appear on chat shows etc.

Iam64 Wed 10-Apr-24 13:13:37

Callistemon, maybe you’ve never had a long relationship with a gay hairdresser . By relationship, I mean as a client, well having your hair cut … see how easy it is to confuse things 😂

Iam64 Wed 10-Apr-24 13:14:30

A friend told me today, she knows two women in their late sixties who received sick pics from male ‘friends’. Yuk

M0nica Wed 10-Apr-24 14:15:33

Callistemon that does surprise me because you are usuall very knowledgeable and aware. I have known about it since it was launched because it was discussed in the paper on online news.

the problem is, having done what he did he is shown as being a man lacking in moral courage and resolve, and would you really want your children/grandchildren in the care of a teacher who is known to crumble when under pressure.

There are plenty of other jobs in education that do not require this quality.

Yes, I have but he's left to go to pastures new 😃

Off to investigate (do I really want to know?)

Callistemon21 Wed 10-Apr-24 14:51:48

Oh, ok!
I get it now.

I've only really heard of Gransnet, Mumsnet, Facebook and Twitter 😁
