There's a thread already on this

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “The matter remains active for the purposes of the Contempt of Court Act 1981 and the public are therefore advised to exercise caution if discussing it on social media.

I will be talking about it. And can cope with demonstrating caution. This absolutely links to the other thread on free speech. Be very careful who you hand the control of speech to. Oh and those who see themselves as the good guys may not be.

So he's been formally charged with embezzlement...ohh dear.

Does this rule apply to Scotland only or to all of the UK?

I’m exercising caution.
We talk about sleaze and corruption in politics often on here. This news shocked me. It will all come out in the wash.

From The Telegraph:

“ Last year, Sir Iain Livingtone, Police Scotland’s former chief constable, disclosed that the inquiry had “moved beyond” complaints that the £600,000 had gone missing.

Asked why Operation Branchform was taking so long, he noted that investigations around “fraud”, “potential embezzlement” and “the misuse of funds” take a long time.”

All we need now is for the Welsh Assembly to conjure up a fermenting political scandal and that'll be this week's hat-trick!

Nicenanny3 Fri 19-Apr-24 13:36:14

Nicola Sturgeon said her husband Peter Murrell being charged by police in connection with embezzlement of funds from the SNP had been “incredibly difficult”. (The Telegraph today)

I bet, how the mighty have fallen 👏

Urmstongran Fri 19-Apr-24 17:34:41

When you think of it, Humza backed Murrell as a ‘clear winner’ and gave him his full support.
Mind you, he also believed his buddy’s story on the £11,00p iPad roaming charge for ‘work purposes’!
With judgement and clarity like that
..

The SNP seem to have trouble choosing their leaders.

This thread is taking a surreal turn. Either I’m on another planet or the pot is calling the kettle black somewhere along the line.

Meaning exactly what?

Casdon Fri 19-Apr-24 18:54:26

The implication that Humza Yousaf is a poor leader because he supported other politicians in his party before he knew the truth about them, coming from those who don’t live in Scotland, when the UK leadership has done exactly the same to MPs who transgress, and continues to do so.
I’ve got no vested interest in Scotland, and I think it’s the people who live and vote there who should be critiquing Yousaf’s leadership, on a thread that’s about him preferably, not on a thread about somebody else who he had no part in appointing. I’m probably on my own thinking like this.

OldFrill Fri 19-Apr-24 19:06:29

Mr Yousef will be gleeful this happened yesterday as it took his major Uturn on climate policy right off the front pages. Does make one wonder if he had a hand in the timing.
"The Scottish government has ditched its flagship target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 75% by 2030 after accepting that it is now "out of reach".

OldFrill Fri 19-Apr-24 19:21:51

SuDomin - the UK is the primary legislature and the Contempt of Court Act 1981 covers all UK.

Urmstongran Fri 19-Apr-24 19:58:07

Casdon I have any opinion on MOST things in life, don’t you? And I don’t live in the Middle East either but I notice those threads are full of opinions too!

Casdon Fri 19-Apr-24 20:39:16

I do of course, I just thought it was a strange thing to introduce to a thread about somebody else, when the state of the UK government leadership is as it is and has been. After all, with Murrell, Yousaf did what we would expect any leader to do?

Urmstongran Fri 19-Apr-24 20:59:08

I get you. It maybe ought to have been on a new thread.
Hey ho.

maddyone Fri 19-Apr-24 21:47:17

Well so long as I (and others) know the rules. We are only allowed to post an opinion on events in the country we live in.
Okay, that’s clear (although I wasn’t aware that the guidelines had changed, but I know now!)

Oreo Fri 19-Apr-24 23:58:55

Haha.
We can and do post about anyone from any country at all Casdon and hopefully that will never change.
You feel it’s unfair to Yousaf to lay any blame on him but that’s a different matter.
If only Scottish GN members were allowed to comment on this then by the same token, they couldn’t comment on any English Welsh or NI politicians.
