😱
Not very PC is she? Heck.

Lloyd George, who led Britain for much of the First World War, could be sharp-tongued himself, saying once of rival politician Sir John Simon: ā€œThe right honorable and learned gentleman has twice crossed the floor of the house, each time leaving behind a trail of slime.ā€

Minister Dennis Healey once claimed that Margaret Thatcher mixed ā€œthe diplomacy of Alf Garnett with the economics of Arthur Daley.ā€

Some people just cannot forgive a working class woman "getting above her station" and it says more about them than it does about Ms Rayner.

I don't like bad language and sneering comments made by any side of the HoC but it is rather rich when Tory supporters call out someone for insults, surely calling someone scum or making comments about their size pales into insignificance compared to their beloved Johnson's "F^ck business" comments for just one example

But Casdon do you know of any ā€˜mugwumps’? A rare species. So rare I think they don’t exist! That’s the point. Why Boris would have said ā€œApologies … ā€œ etc as there was no need - there WERE no mugwumps to take offence.

But what Rayner said is different. An insult about soneone’s like of height. It’s real. So it’s unacceptable.

A world of difference!

They exist Urmstongran, it’s an American term of insult. Mugwumps were originally Republican political activists who were "sanctimonious" or "holier-than-thou" in holding themselves aloof from the party. Johnson knew exactly what he was saying, and so did Corbyn.

Cameron once called his rival ā€œthe nothing manā€

"What would people be saying if Sunak had personally insulted Angela Rayner? All hell would break lose!!

When people resort to personal name-calling, they are scraping the bottom of the barrel."

Quite, Sparklefizz

Oh dear, she might think it, but saying it she doesn't really have a sense of occasion, does she?

It's unacceptable to make comments about someone's appearance, no matter who they are.

This. šŸ‘
It’s about appearance not character. That’s why it’s not nice nor acceptable. Physical attributes cannot be altered (in the main).

In her high position in politics she should learn to calm down a little or she will lose respect.
I agree with everything she says but there are ways of getting a dig in without resorting to insults.
I feel these debates are getting very childish by all parties which then make you wonder who is appropriate to be in such a responsible position, they should remember they have our lives in their hands which is nothing to take lightly.

Above is someone with no sense of occasion.
(But he does speak posh)

I've just watched it and it horrifies me that Angela Raynor could be representing our country on the world stage as Deputy Prime Minister if Labour gets elected. Shocking.

As compared to the delightful Lee Anderson?

Oldbat1 Wed 24-Apr-24 16:06:01

Well I like her! I watched pmqs as normal and she is a straight talker. Perhaps her use of ā€œpintā€ was illadvised but …….

Above?

Reece Mogg, sprawled out over three seats, apparently sleeping, until someone shouts at him to sit up.

Only a sneaky gransnet member posted, and ended up "above".

He is a gentleman. She is no lady.

Couldn't put it any better myself.

MissAdventure Wed 24-Apr-24 16:18:23

I've been in trouble here before, for calling woman "ladies".
Nobody likes it, apparently.

I have no time for JRM. Ghastly pompous man.

Oh good.
Something we agree on. smile

Anyway...
Back to arguing....

I've forgotten my point, or even if I had one, now.

prestbury Wed 24-Apr-24 16:29:44

I think it proves that you can take the woman out of the gutter but it takes a hell of a lot of work to take the gutter out of the woman in this case.

Iam64 Wed 24-Apr-24 16:30:55

Another I too am Spartacus moment. I agree with GSM description of Reece Mog
I can even acknowledge some criticisms of Angela but I admire her spirit and share her politics. Plus I’m also a northern woman. I don’t share her accent or shouty capacity. My mum insisted we avoided developing strong local accents

She has taken herself out of the gutter.
Done far better for herself than most people could ever hope for.
