Is Humza on the brink?

He might resign today apparently. Who will take over?
Kate Forbes?
John Swinney?

Is Sunak on the brink? That will cause more earthquakes across the UK than Humza resigning. Leave it to the Scottish electorate to worry about Humza's successor, the whole UK electorate (and many outside the UK) will be affected by the infighting in Westminster. Distracting them by making great play of a change of leadership in devolved Scotland won't make any difference to that.

Distraction and deflection are the main tools of the SNP, well done for demonstrating them both.

News outlets widely reporting that he is to resign imminently. Who will take over from him? I honestly don't know who I would prefer - but definitely not Forbes.

tidyskatemum Mon 29-Apr-24 10:33:38

Let's hope he goes. Trouble is whoever replaces him will have to get the seal of approval from the ghastly Greens - so the tail will continue to wag the dog

😂
I was going to say much the same as you OldFrill
There’s no reason at all that Scottish SNP supporters or even just Scottish GN members should try and stop those who live outside Scotland from commenting on Scottish politics, especially such a big step of changing leaders.
From what I’ve read Humza Youssuf hasn’t done all that well but he was championed by Nicola Sturgeon for the top job, hmmm.

PuddyCat Mon 29-Apr-24 11:00:36

Are Scottish politics a closed set for anyone outside of Scotland elegran? Not to be discussed or dissected? Only Westminster to be poured over and held to account? Why's that then?

Wheniwasyourage Mon 29-Apr-24 11:34:48

Can I point out, please, PuddyCat, that we have as much interest in the Westminster government as anyone else in the UK? It is a great pity that English devolution to the regions is taking so long.

Urmstongran Mon 29-Apr-24 11:35:15

I’m not worried about the SNP Elegran at all. Merely interested. My stepfather hails from Wester Ross (he’s 92) and is watching the news unfold with interest. We were chatting earlier. As you do. 😊

guess Forbes would prefer not to take such a poisoned chalice at this stage with all the SNPs problems and a GE imminent. Better to let the party sink to whatever level after the GE, the new leader resigns and then take over and build from the new, lower base.

That probably leaves Swinney as the caretaker but he has so much personal and Sturgeon-associated negative baggage I doubt he will stem the tide towards Labour come the GE.

OldFrill Mon 29-Apr-24 11:54:54

Sturgeon made such a fuss about UK Prime Ministers not being elected via a general election then Humza gained office in the same way, surely they'll dissolve the assembly and have a Scottish election. Or their hippocrosy yet again defies belief.

paddyann54 Mon 29-Apr-24 11:58:18

puddycat simple.Westminster still holds over 70% of the powers over a "devolved" Scotland so they make many decisions that affect us north of the border. They collect all but a very small portion of taxes ,and spend it ON OUR BEHALF ...or so they say.If they just let go before they drain us dry as they did with other countries we'll be fine but they'll fight dirty to keep us as has been proven time after time.
It cant be a coincidence that the top posts in PoliceScotland are ALL held by English officers....appointed by Jack our colonial overseer in St Andrews house...you know the Tory that leads our civil service! Go figure.I doubt if England would like to be treated this way .Or maybe I'm wrong you all appear to like being treated like half wits!!

OLD FRILL The First Minister is voted in by his fellow members of ALL parties at Holyrood. Not just put in place by his mates like Sunak

MissInterpreted Mon 29-Apr-24 12:07:40

And he's resigning - but staying on until a successor is appointed.

You've totally misinterpreted my point, imagine intentionally.

WELL, HE HAS GONE.

Well, he has resigned, yes - but will be staying on as FM until a successor is appointed.

This must go down a spectacular act of political self-immolation. He blew up the coalition, which was the only thing keeping him in power, and then was shocked that his minority and deeply unpopular position was untenable. The political awareness of a morris dancer.

Urmstongran Mon 29-Apr-24 12:59:26

Hopefully Sunak next followed by Khan.

Is there no end to the fantasies you spread.
The previous Chief Constable who retired last year, Iain Livingstone, is Scottish born and bred - it was him who set up Operation Branchform investigating the missing SNP funds.
The current T/Assistant Chief Constable Professionalism and Assurance
T/Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Houston
has policed in Scotland since May 1996.
England has a massively larger pool of senior officers to recruit from than Scotland.
Many other Scottish senior officers worked for Northern Ireland police force, not England and not English.

Not Sunak because the country needs stability. This is the highest priority. There will be an election this year and for the sake of stability it's best to stay as he is.

maddyone Mon 29-Apr-24 13:08:30

Of course there isn’t.
Everyone comments on what happens in Israel or on Donald Trump.
People are free to comment on whatever they like without attempts to shut them down because someone else doesn’t like what they’re saying.

Visgir1 Mon 29-Apr-24 13:20:15

In the end who ever gets the job, SNP are a minority, have they really got a mandate to continue? they need the others.

Namsnanny Mon 29-Apr-24 13:29:57

I wonder what his next position will be?
White, White, White. He certainly knows his colours.
Paint salesman perhaps?🤣

nanna8 Mon 29-Apr-24 13:55:05

How about a nice Mac as a leader? Wearing a kilt with one of those dagger thingos.

I’m no Sunak supporter but we def do NOT want anymore PMs prior to the GE!
