Ah, now there's a problem with that. There is no freedom of speech in middle Eastern countries, particularly in Palestine or Egypt; they face certain imprisonment or death if caught expressing anything but the party line there. So they come here instead.

Makes me realised how lucky we are here in this country, though we do often forget.

I spent January in Egypt, lucky me. I spoke with many Egyptians who had no difficulty expressing views thst were critical of their government. On the positive side, unanimous support for Egypt maintaining neutrality in diplomatic attempts to broker peace in Palestine/Israel. =

I find this a worrying trend. I couldn't care less what religion he follows but he has been elected for his local area and I hope he puts all his efforts into helping all the people who live there irrespective of race or religion and doesn't see this as a platform for Gaza or anything else that detracts from what he has been elected to do. I can see why Rishi Sunak was making a public statement outside No 10 recently.

Urmstongran, it's not extremist to glorify God.It is perhaps not usual for older English people to shout that they glorify God, but hardly "extremist". God is relevant to all moral and political quests.

Read up all I can on this candidates' actions on the platform and the Green Party and the sort of very far left group that go for the rent a mob/drama

It just didn't make sense for a "Green".

Up and down the country most of the candidates who have made a specific point on Gaza are people for whom the regular parties have not taken a stronger stand.

They have stood as Independents and our local one works in community work and is known as someone who will do the job as candidate - not make agit-prop drama.

This report was what I found really disturbing earlier today, along with it's up there with the stories of teachers etc being in fear of their lives for simply 'teaching'.

Meanwhile in February he created a video that branded a Jewish Rabbi 'this creep,' calling him a 'kind of animal,' an 'absolute low-life,' 'absolutely disgusting' and 'shameful'.

He falsely claimed that he had deliberately attempted to 'kill women and children' in Gaza.

The Rabbi, who is Leeds University's Jewish Chaplain, was forced to go into hiding with his family after threats were made against him when he returned to the university after temporarily serving in the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF).

It was the “this is for Gaza” that annoyed me and so I said what I did.
Just concentrate on the bluddy bins and potholes Councillor! Instead of using your position as a platform.

Well actually I'd rather they concentrated on decent education and care services, resources for the most deprived areas....

Bins and education are important, along with a good number of other local issues.
This man is clearly not interested in either bins or education, he is interested in Gaza, division, and hatred.

There is a problem in our country when one faith community seeks to demonise another in the way Mothin Ali and his followers do.
Children are being taught nonsense and bigotry towards Jewish / Israeli people. Before anyone leaps in to remind me incidents of Islamophobia have increased, yes I know this. The attacks on Jewish synagogues, communities, threats leading to guards at schools have increased enormously.

I am uncomfortable with sectarianism entering politics. I think all parties must look very closely at their selection processes for candidates. It appears that, in this case, the Greens (either knowingly or unknowingly) have given a platform for someone pushing one sectarian agenda. In the UK democracy, this man has a right to his opinion and has a voice, but IMO he should have stood as an independent candidate. The Greens need to be careful - this could potentially backfire on them.

I'm sure there is a lot going on in Greens HQ. Local Greens who compose a substantial number of seats in our hung council must be shocked. Policy statements show usual range of Green issues tailored to our city.

As you say, our local stood as "Independent" - and pix show him standing quietly at the hustings alongside other parties and quotes about wide range issues and representing his ward.

Sectarian politics, of whatever hue, from other countries, are nothing to do with us.

I guess you mean for local council elections as in a GE Foreign Policy is one of the key issues?

The greens have struggled with this kind of thing before, they got mired in a deeply unpleasant child safeguarding issue a while back, not that convinced by their procedures to be honest.

I've just googled examples of child abuse MP's and cover ups from both of the 2 major parties - certainly doesn't excuse what happened in the Greens (a prominent woman's father had been involved and she hid it, and appointed her father as her election agent) - never acceptable - hoping procedures are indeed tightened up now.

I'd like to think that measures could be taken against the O/P person of interest on the basis of hate tweets, but there are quite a few lurking in prominent people's pasts. (and I dont know the law on it)
