The 7th rebrand in 18 months - is this one any better?

This week the PM limply tried to present the Tory party as the only party capable of defending the UK against future foreign threats. After 14 years of collapsing international relations, they have done little to prevent such threats developing, so where’s the evidence they have the wherewithal to build a different future? Within hours of this latest speech, the Tories had a mass breach of personal data! As the party who can’t even stop the little boats bringing refugees into the UK, how can they possibly think we will believe them?

There is a cartoon showing Sunak as “chicken licken” running around in circles screeching “the sky is falling in and we have a plan”😄

Still, he has a nice easy target. The baddies that need to be sent to Rwanda. Amongst their number are Afghan interpreters who were promised safety.

No Afghani’s who worked for or with the U.K. forces inn Afghanistan will be sent to Rwanda.

This has been stated repeatedly by various Government Ministers.

With respect GG, that isn't the truth on the ground.

I will take the word of Johnny Mercer MP, thank you.

I think the biggest problem Sunak has now CvD66 is that the public aren’t taking any notice, it’s like Peter crying wolf too many times. We’ve reached the point I think that whatever he does isn’t going to improve the rating of the Tories at the election. It might be hung, it might be Labour, SNP and Lib Dem’s might do well or might not - but what ever else happens the Tories will lose. In fairness to Sunak, I don’t think it’s his fault either, I think Truss finished them off.

the only party capable of defending the country against foreign threats That’s rich coming from a PM who appointed a foreign secretary who was once so far up the backside of the Chinese he nearly disappeared.

What does ‘the truth on the ground’ mean? Gossip?

zakouma66 Thu 16-May-24 14:15:09

No, its not gossip but never mind.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 16-May-24 14:15:48

I would like to know what you mean though.

Oh, I don't know, Casdon. I fell about laughing when Sunak said that he was proud of the tories' record in government...

I totally agree, and I think Sunak knows this too. It’s becoming embarrassing watching him constantly trying to re-invent himself and the party. He really should do us all (himself included) a favour and call a GE. Put us all out of our misery!

The issue as far as the British voter is concerned is that we know that none of the so-called policies will come to fruition. It is all hot air.

We need a change of government.

These Tory rebrands are pointless as most of the public have given up listening because they are fed up with all the failed promises like reducing waiting lists, the Truss 'tax' on mortgages, the laughable Rwanda scheme, etc.

GrannyRose15 Thu 16-May-24 15:21:22

I’d go with Starmer’s six point plan if I were you. There’s nothing in that that anyone can complain about.

M0nica Thu 16-May-24 15:42:52

But who has any confidence that Starmer's promises won't be as empty as Sunak's

Where are all those extra teachers going to come from? Teachers are already leaving the profession in droves, driven out by stress and exhaustion and with no intention of coming back. And as for those 40,000 a week/month/year(?) appointments in the NHS, where are the medical qualified staff to deal with these coming from. Possibly by reducing a doctor's training to 6 months? and nurses training to 6 weeks and introducing instant operations at your local Pharmacy?

Casdon Thu 16-May-24 15:52:08

I don’t think this is about Starmer’s proposals Monica, as whatever Labour say they will or won’t do, a majority of people won’t vote Tory now anyway because they’ve switched off - it could end up with them voting anything but. Do you think there’s anything Sunak could do now that would persuade more people to vote Tory?

Smileless2012 Thu 16-May-24 15:59:13

Where's the money going to come from M0nica? As well as saying what the Labour party will do, it needs to be said how it can be achieved.

The same could be said re Starmers supposed policies, being realistic. Let's wait and see shall we??

Casdon Thu 16-May-24 16:21:28

Why do people keep trying to deflect from the question about the rebrand?

Let’s have your thoughts about that, not a rant about Starmer’s plans again.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 16-May-24 16:29:00

I don’t have any problem with the rebrand - but then I would say that wouldn’t I? This is not deflection, but how many times did Labour refer to being a new Labour Party, changed from the old Labour Party, today? If that’s not rebranding I don’t know what is.

Casdon Thu 16-May-24 16:34:25

Do you think this rebrand will work Germanshepherdsmum?
