No surprise there.

It has been obvious for months

Iam64

I’m not naive enough to believe Hamas or Nesnyahu’s government will compromise without outside pressure.
What do you see as a possible end to the killing annie and Katie590?
I’m not wanting a row - it’s a genuine question, the current situation is so dreadful in Gaza and Israel. I’m distressed and don’t support the pro Palestinian protests. Many others do. How do we find a way out?

Hamas has a stated aim to destroy Israel so they will attack wherever they can, civilians deaths don’t matter to them, they are all martyrs.
The only hope for Gazans is for Hamas to be driven out, then Israel will stop bombing. A ceasefire solves nothing because the fighting will restart
Hamas will keep trying to attack but the Gaza war will be over, every country in the Middle East has its extremists attacking the government, Muslim Brotherhood, ISIS, Hezbolah and several others.

Iam I know you are not wanting a row, I too am distressed,

Just heard on bbc news that Hamas has bombed Israel for the first time since January. Nothing since January, nearly 6 months ago. ? Yet bombs rain down on Gaza and Gazans.

silverlining48 Sun 26-May-24 18:07:37

That Hamas was elected 18 years ago does not mean everyone still does, , or ever did, support them. It’s the same for me and the Conservative Party here. I don’t vote for them but get them nonetheless. At least we get an election every 4 years; there hasn’t been another election in Gaza since 2006.

maddyone Sun 26-May-24 17:56:35

I am currently reading Son of Hamas by Mosab Hassan Yousef. It is compelling reading and highly recommended. He certainly doesn’t think much of Hamas, going by what he has written.

Anniebach Sun 26-May-24 16:07:20

Iam I cannot agree with you, we did have a poster here who lives in Israel, sadly she left.

Hamas will not face prosecution, will not stop attacking Israel

Katie590 Sun 26-May-24 15:40:21

“Some consensus has to be found but not with Hamas or Netanyahu who couldn’t compromise to save the lives of children”

Best of luck with that, Hamas will never stop attacking Israel and the bloodshed will go on until they are driven out of Palestine.

I’m sorry that you believe only anti Israeli links are posted Anniebach. This is a terrible war. I do not accept that the attacks on 7/10 can be explained away or justified by the existence of the state of Israel or its current right wing government.
My Jewish friends living in Manchester but with strong links to Israel don’t support Netanyahu yet they’re subject to anti semitism, attacks on schools, synagogues and abuse in the streets.
There can be no winners in this war, it’s going to be least worse solution. That’s often been the case in conflicts like that in Northern Ireland, India/Pakistan for example when countries are divided . Some consensus has to be found but not with Hamas or Netanyahu who couldn’t compromise to save the lives of children

Wyllow3 Sun 26-May-24 15:04:14

Agreed, Foxie.

Haaretz is not anti Israel. Try, very far from it, if you read its contents.

Anniebach Sun 26-May-24 14:28:06

Thank you for some balance foxie68

I think there is general agreement that the three members of Hamas who are named by the ICC should be put on trial. There is, however, disagreement with regard to Netanyahu and Gallant, which is why this is being discussed and some have posted links to support their POV. I don't think anyone thinks that Hamas should be firing rockets at Tel Aviv and I would imagine that these attacks also constitute war crimes as Hamas are firing at civilians.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 26-May-24 13:59:07

Has israel stopped bombing Gaza then.?

GrannyGravy13 Sun 26-May-24 13:48:17

Hamas obviously haven’t got the memo as it is currently bombing Tel Aviv and the surrounding area.

You are very welcomed to post others

Wyllow3 thank you for posting the MSF bulletin, I have signed up for them. I urge everyone to read this bulletin, it is people like Christopher Lockyear who will be a witnesse if there is a trial and he will be believed because he speaks the truth.

Wyllow3 Sun 26-May-24 12:26:04

Haaretz makes a very interesting read. They are anti-Hamas and clear on atrocities on both sides but critical of the way the war has been conducted under this regime. Lots of opinion and details

Wyllow3 Sun 26-May-24 12:17:16

I'd also never heard of them.

We need to hear from all trustable sources from both sides (and I do)

Re Gaza -I have looked at MSF bulletins. This latest was from April, before Rafah

Parsley3 Sun 26-May-24 11:38:03

Thank you foxie I will look at. Haaretz.

foxie48 Sun 26-May-24 11:25:38

Maddyone I don't know why you think some "people believe every people believe every piece of propaganda that Hamas put out, but nothing that Israel say". I could come back and say that some people believe everything that Israel says but choose to ignore anything that is critical of Israel, but I don't think that's true either. I would urge you to sign up for daily and weekly reports from Haaretz. This is a Jewish Israeli newspaper based in Israel and is certainly not a mouthpiece of Hamas. It is, however extremely critical of Netanyahu and often "challenges" what is being claimed by the Israeli government and spokespeople for the IDF. "A society so indifferent to death and destruction has already lost the war", " Israel already razed Bedouin homes to the ground. Next it tore down anything left standing" these are two of the headlines in a Jewish Israeli newspaper today not Hamas propaganda, it is what Jews, who take Haaretz as their media source is reading over their coffee today.

Wyllow3 Sun 26-May-24 10:30:29

Dr Rose's report can be found in I player by googling Dr Rose Gaza report.

Presumably the ICJ report will document reports from both sides.

I was interested in this article which asks "what happens the day after" ie what next for Gaza". And differing views on same within Israel and the International community..

Doctors unfortunately are the mouthpiece of Hamas. Some doctors that is. We know that doctors, teachers, religious leaders, and other professionals are part of Hamas.
It makes me cross when people believe every piece of propaganda that Hamas put out, but nothing that Israel say.
I know I believe a democratic state over a terrorist organisation proscribed by our government.

Would you like to name these people?
Or is it once again just a way of avoiding facing the horror that Israel is perpetrating in Gaza.
If you can't face what's happening and admit conditions are terrible accusing doctors of being Hamas must I suppose give some comfort.

There are numerous accounts available from doctors who have worked in Gaza about the lack of any medical supplies. All of them say anaesthetic and pain killers were scarce and sometimes unavailable. Most have treated many children. Questioning their accounts is equivalent to not believing the events of 7/10. Both are unacceptable.

Conditions in Gaza are terrible. Medical treatment is inadequate. These are not soldiers, these are civilians, many of them children, who will die, not because of their injuries, but because they are denied proper care.
