No surprise there.

It has been obvious for months

I think your memory needs refreshing in as who started these atrocities 😡
This is a mother whose children were kidnapped.

I read Haaretz, the Israeli newspaper most days, and not all Israelis speak with one voice at all. Even those whose relatives who were abducted. It’s very interesting and informative.

The murders of the Israeli Olympic team 1972 Munich Olympics by a Palestinian terrorist group was caused by
Israel! ! ! !

No
Israel has been imprisoning and torturing Palestinian children for a long time. Save the Children did an investigation into what happened to these children
“Each year approximately 500-700 Palestinian children come into contact with the Israeli military court system; they are the only children in the world to experience systematic prosecution in military courts. Our research shows – once again - that they are subject to serious and widespread abuse at the hands of those who are meant to be looking after them.

“There’s simply no justification for beating and stripping children, treating them like animals or robbing them of their futures. This is a child protection crisis that can no longer be ignored. There must finally be an end to this abusive military detention system.

The kidnappings were terrible but they were not the start of the situation.

Yes that happened , Annie, 52 years ago, of course it was terrible but many more had been and were still being killed before and since then.
You keep quoting October , but this struggle has been going fir 70 years, and until both parties sit down together to talk about a fair peace it will continue,
Problem is Israel always wants even more land, look what’s happening in the West Bank, people killed, hardly reported.
Netanyahu doesn’t want peace / has to keep his even more ultra right partners onside, who also don’t want peace, otherwise he’s out and will be in court/ prison.
While one group of people live comfortable lives, their neighbours try to survive in the rubble left behind by constant bombing over decades.

Wyllow3 Sun 09-Jun-24 12:54:09

Yes, the conflict has been year and years in the making. Only by understanding this can we move forward. For example, we have to resolve the question of settling in Palestinian territory, which has been a key issue in the growth of Hamas.

Both Israel and Palestine can and have published heart -breaking pictures of innocents caught up in the war. Mothers holding dead children and so on.

I really want to know what the plan is going ahead. I really want serious negotiations to go ahead to try to resolve the war but if the current Israeli regime wants to occupy Gaza by military means with no international involvement I see only heartbreak ahead for both peoples.

Crossed post Glorianny. I take too long, and can’t attach clips, glad you do.

Wyllow3 Sun 09-Jun-24 13:03:19

The Save the Children report is shocking - includes sexual abuse.

Anniebach Sun 09-Jun-24 13:09:24

There was sexual abuse when Israeli was attacked 7th October 2023 , children in their cribs

I do not believe Palastine was bombed for decades, another
Hamas tale

Wyllow3 Sun 09-Jun-24 13:18:35

Yes, unforgivable acts by Hamas militants.

I also don't recall any news that Gaza was bombed.

Military backing for settlements on Palestinian territory however.

There is a history of wars from 1948 but will just focus mainly on the years since 2000.
First intifada 1987-1993 ended in pea ce treaty but Israeli PM Rabin murdered by an Israeli nationalist.
Second intifada 2000-2005 and then most years until ...2021.

It’s being tracked by among others BTselem an Israeli human rights organisation and their findings are that out of every 24 deaths 23 are of Palestinians. In conclusion nearly 11,000 palistinians have been killed by Israel from 2008 until September 2023.
They term it cutting the grass, a terrible description of the tragic deaths of thousands people of all ages.
If you don’t recall hearing about any of these ‘mini wars’ it’s because unless you are interested as i have been, it was very easy to miss the short news announcements of these Palestinian deaths. A quick mention, once, not repeated. At that time the media never criticised Israel, unlike now.
There is a lot of information out there, I just had a quick look online. Why not do the same.

My Jewish friend is saying that Save the Children, and other charities in the area, have never asked to check the welfare of the hostages, in particular the children. There are still child hostages, at least two, the two little red haired boys. They may well be dead but no charities have enquired or sought confirmation. My friend think there is only one conclusion to draw from this, and I suspect we all know what her thoughts on this are.

Does your friend have a hot line to Hamas? If not how could she possibly know what has happened or who charities were talking to.

maddyone Sun 09-Jun-24 16:05:25

How could you know all that you claim to know Glorianny? Since you claim so much more knowledge than any of the rest of us. But you actually don’t have anymore knowledge than the rest of us, and the knowledge you do have is totally one sided. I have never read a comment from you that expresses any sympathy or empathy towards the Jews. Everyone else expresses sorrow for all the innocents, Palestinians and Israelis because of the realisation that in war all the innocents suffer.
Incidentally my friend has a fairly hot line to Israel. She has family in Israel. Do you have family in Gaza? Your anger at me expressing what she has said is clear.

Glorianny Sun 09-Jun-24 16:19:42

I'm not angry. It's a fairly reasonable question. The hostages are being held in Gaza by Hamas. Your friend is in Israel. How could she possibly know who charities were talking to?

I don't claim to have more knowledge. I do do research and look at areas I am interested in. In this case the oppression of Palestinians is plain to see.
A lot of people are reacting only to the events of 7/10. But there is a whole history of Israeli oppression before that. And I don't conflict Jews and Israelis. A lot of Jews oppose the destruction of Gaza just as I do.

Winston Churchill said, “Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”

Anniebach Sun 09-Jun-24 16:55:33

So tragic anti semites ignore history ,

Anniebach Sun 09-Jun-24 17:14:31

Churchill

Churchill criticised the ‘aloofness’ of Jewish people from wider society and urged them to make the effort to integrate themselves….Churchill says: ‘The central fact which dominates the relations of Jew and non-Jew is that the Jew is “different.” He looks different. He thinks differently. He has a different tradition and background.’ He then criticises Jewish moneylenders: ‘Every Jewish money-lender recalls Shylock and the idea of the Jews as usurers. And you cannot reasonably expect a struggling clerk or shopkeeper, paying 40 or 50 per cent interest on borrowed money to a “Hebrew Bloodsucker,” to reflect that almost every other way of life was closed to the Jewish people.’”

silverlining48 Sun 09-Jun-24 17:25:46

It’s very easy to hurl anti semetic allegations around but it is offensive and importantly, simply not true.

Anniebach Sun 09-Jun-24 17:41:05

It’s acceptable to say ‘a Jew is different’. Is it acceptable to say ‘a black person is different’ ?

maddyone Sun 09-Jun-24 17:50:28

The BBC reported some time ago that they have been unable to see or check on any of the hostages. Why is that? Hamas!

foxie48 Sun 09-Jun-24 18:17:04

I think when anyone posts quotes that are controversial it would be helpful for them to add their source as there is so much misinformation on the internet. Churchill, as an Edwardian, had some views which would not be acceptable now, he was certainly a colonialist but I am not aware that he was anti semitic.
