I would not vote Conservative, but I don't trust Labour not to open the floodgates to yet more people who really don't like us and want to do us harm. Who to vote for - any ideas?

He probably needs to employ Maizie as an economic adviser. He said this morning that he had abandoned his promise to end university tuition fees because he couldn’t do that and improve the NHS. Is reality beginning to strike?
What is the problem with an MP being honest? And, is it all about tax? I’ve always said I’d be happy to be worse off if we could have a fairer society with properly funded public services.
That was in response to gsmand student fees
Not abandoned but put on the shelf because the NHS takes priority. Sounds very sensible to me. Plans of course have to be adjusted as the economy has continued to spiral ever downwards. We have had very little growth since the Tories have been in power, and it has flatlined entirely over the past three years (I’ll leave it to your own judgement why that might be), interest rates are not expected to continue to drop after perhaps a drop in the summer, and in fact are expected to rise again, during autumn/winter.
It does take much to understand why Sunak has chosen now to go to the country.
So sorry, fat fingers and mad auto correct!! “Results can be devastating” that should read, not the gibberish I posted!
To be honest, who wants to pay more tax? If we are honest none of us, but I’m willing to make that sacrifice if it results in stable, reliable public services. So many parts of the public sector are understaffed and the results can be De as tiny, especially within social care and the police. Something has to be done and in 14 years things have just got worse and worse and freezing the personal allowance was the final nail in the coffin for me as it affects those low income working people and many pensioners the most.

At least he’s being honest about it now, before the GE.
Quite simply, under a Labour government I expect anyone who pays tax will be paying more of it, whether directly or by stealth
GSM If secure, properly-functioning public services are an outcome of that, so be it. Currently, we are paying the highest tax in 80 years yet public services are on their knees - so how is this working? In an altruistic society, everyone pays their fair share into the pot in order to benefit all.

*Lizzie*, I have posted elsewhere that I don’t trust Labour not to increase personal taxation and the threat of a wealth tax hasn’t gone away, it will simply not be admitted to whilst voters are being courted. There has been vague talk about increased ‘commercial taxation’, of which I have yet to find details but any increased tax burden on a commercial entity will find its way through to increased prices for consumers. Quite simply, under a Labour government I expect anyone who pays tax will be paying more of it, whether directly or by stealth.
I agree. There will be a higher tax burden, but also what what I can gather as well as VAT on fee paying schools, the LP appears to be concentrating on closing tax loopholes and chasing those who fail to pay their correct taxes.
They’ve pledged to keep the pensioners triple lock and are looking at capital gains and inheritance tax as well as lifetime allowance changes.
Any money raised/saved will be reinvested in public services. Tbh I wouldn’t expect any less from a labour government.

Rishi Sunak I think he's doing the best he can for our country. I also liked Suella Braverman I think it was a mistake getting rid of her that is why a lot of voters went to Reform but I've now changed my mind although my husband is still voting Reform if they have a candidate in our area, a safe blue seat.

To me he comes across as a safe pair of hands, a man with integrity, with all the flaws normal humans have and a genuine desire to make our country a better place for everyone. I don’t care that he isn’t charismatic, he is a well educated, hard working, normal man who clearly loves his family and his country. He’s certainly not a “chancer”
That’s how he appears to me too Cossy. So I really do want to hear people’s reasons for not trusting him. Do they see something that I’m missing?

*Cossy*, I paid higher rate and additional rate tax for years. I have done my bit, and some.
As have many of us.
I too would very much like to hear why no trust in Starmer

I don’t trust the Tories. I don’t trust them because they’ve lied (Partygate), they screwed the mortgage rate/housing market (Truss), they allowed people to die needlessly during Covid (throwing care home residents out of hospital, failing to act quickly enough at the beginning to stop large events, “eat out to help out”, nurses and PPE), I don’t trust them with finance because they’ve spent ££££ in “wasted” schemes (track and trace, money given to the French, the entire Rwandan debacle), they’ve backtracked on climate change.
These are just a few of the many many examples of why I won’t be voting Tory ever again (yes many years ago I supported them and voted for them!)
It’s great we are a democracy, able to choose who we want to trust, who we vote for and the freedom to debate and express views/beliefs/ethos on sites like this.
I respect your right to your own opinions, I’m simply asking “why”?Because I don't trust them mainly on immigration, I personally can't stand Starmer, Rayner or Vyette Cooper. I actually support Reform but am thinking of voting Conservative now. So no evidence to present just a gut feeling they would not be fit to govern.
Can you tell me which MP’s you do trust?

Cosy I too am keen to know why people say they ‘don’t trust Keir Starmer’. No-one appears to be able (or willing) to come up with an answer to, what is, a reasonable question. All I hear is a repeat of ‘don’t trust him’ … but please tell us why. I genuinely want to understand people’s thinking!
Me too, hence my constant question.

Casdon I just meant it was fair enough for GSM to have that view. I too was a higher rate tax payer prior to having children, after which I worked in more local jobs thus taking a pay cut. Even now though I too would be prepared to pay more in taxes to support more vulnerable members of our society. We too live a comfortable (not luxury) retirement and count ourselves extremely lucky to do so.
It’s time for the UK to become a more altruistic society

Fair enough.
It’s not though. Those of who were high earners and savers live comfortably in retirement too, yes, we paid more tax, but we are still the lucky ones. I’m happy to pay more tax now if it results in better public services for those who haven’t been, and will never be as fortunate financially as I am. I think millions of others will feel the same way. It’s time for the UK to become a more altruistic society.

Blair? Far too late for that argument. We invited the Windrush generation in to do the jobs no one else wanted to do. You're a bit late with the comments, Enoch Powell beat you to it.

Definitely Reform.
What are they all about please? I know I could google but would like to hear from a supporter. Thanks
