Keir Starmer keen to give 16 year olds VOTE if Labour win

I have met hundreds of 16 year olds and I don’t think any of them was even interested in politics let alone knowing enough to actually vote.

Like Corbyn, he thinks by attracting younger people he will get more votes. Remember Corbyn at Glasto and the crowds of younger people chanting “ooh Jeremy Corbyn”? They were either drunk or stoned and would have chanted anything but he thought he had it in the bag.

Come the day though the turnout was extremely poor for the younger population. Most couldn’t be bothered to get out of bed and I was probably the same at their age. 🤣 and Labour suffered their biggest defeat since the war!

I did think Starmer had a bit more sense than Corbyn.

It's not about the sky falling in is it? I couldn't care less about how they will vote. I could care about a rush to turn children into adults ad what impact that might have. We dont seem to be making the best decisions about young peoples emotional wellbeing lately. It's part of a bigger issue than voting.

In my view, 16 year olds are not mature enough to vote.

Whatever age, I really really wish that the basics of our political system be taught in English schools. (looking at Scotland, I think it comes under their social studies syllabus)

I agree with that, Wyllow.

Willow it is taught under the heading of Modern Studies from age 11 up in secondary school. And that is linked with social subjects of history, geography and religious studies.
