Sir Keir and his manifesto

Does anyone understand what Labour’s manifesto is ? I cannot find out. There are generalisations and a few watery suggestions what they might achieve, but not how.
I cannot see how someone worth 7.7 million and belongs to House of Lords understands the true concerns of the average person. . True he is self made and well done for that. Richie was condemned by many for his wealth as if it’s just a Conservative issue.
Those calling for Brexit to be reversed therefore not listening to a democratic decision, should realise the implications of overturning it. Pity so many didn’t turn out and worry about it at the time, maybe next important decision they might.
This latest National Service suggestion, just who suggested that without even consulting the Military. All school leavers should do a form of community service with penalties if they don’t unless exempt.

Australian politics is probably worse than British in many ways!

Only exception- smaller parties have more chance of representation.

Wwm2 The Head of the Civil Service is responsible for computer security within the Civil Service. I do not believe that funding is the issue at all. Expertise is. Rather the lack of….in fact the Civil Service needs to update the way it does business with particular regard to computer security. Government departments are at fault.

I do know ronib I was a civil servant and I still have contacts with people in the foreign office, Number 10 and the revenue. Plus my second cousin works in the Treasury.

But we are talking more than about cyber security aren’t we?

ronib Mon 27-May-24 10:40:59

Wwm2 but are you or your friends or family members actively involved in cyber security? Senior civil servants don’t seem to understand even the basic computer security requirements.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 27-May-24 10:45:49

But there is a distinct difference between someone operating a computer for work purposes, and someone employed to ensure cyber security.

They are different people and only necessary information is given to those using the computer for work purposes.

But as I said, security if the U.K. involves far more that cyber security.

Starmer is currently giving his first election address about himself and LP policies and it's being reported live on I player. There is a lot of detail in there Allsorts.

Wwm2 yes security involves a full range of different activities. Since KS has yet to release his manifesto, we need to know what his plans are. Reforming the mindset of the Civil Service would be great but don’t hold your breath.

The NCF (National Cybersecurity Force) comprises of Government, Armed Forces and Private companies.

Like I have posted previously, the NCF have to be accurate 100% of the time, a terrorist / cyber attack only has to be successful once to cause absolutely mayhem.

ronib Mon 27-May-24 11:17:56

GG13 which private companies? I don’t think so.

ronib a small number work with Government.

There are over 2,000 private Cybersecurity firms in U.K.

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 27-May-24 11:42:44

Perhaps the contracts with these companies are some of the ‘wasteful contracts’ Starmer is going to cancel in order to fund his ‘plan’. He gives no details of what they are. He probably doesn’t know either but says it because it’s what his fans want to hear. I don’t believe that any contract with a private company which is beneficial to the citizens of this country (such as those with cybersecurity companies or private hospitals) is wasteful.

gg13 is correct. Governments have always employed contractors to deal with cyber security, alongside government security forces.

I can’t warm to Starmer as he sat in the fence through lockdown and supported Corbyn, do prefer someone with the courage to say what their intentions are even if it’s not popular.
I didn’t like Rishi at first as thought he was a bit weak, but he has got the interests of this country at heart you can see that, but so did Boris and look how that ended., very undecided, do I vote for the party who has got this country at heart despite ridiculous Rwanda plan, what a waste of cash. Stop them before they make the journey here.

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 27-May-24 13:04:34

In his speech today Starmer said ‘Can I trust Labour with my money - yes you can’. I think a truthful answer would be ‘It depends who you are and how much you have’.

keepingquiet Mon 27-May-24 13:07:22

Well I can't be worse off under Labour than I now am under the Tories, due to the tax rises my pension increase is worth £5 a week.

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 27-May-24 13:08:48

Wanna bet?

He has never personally supported Corbyn: (like a lot of us in LP) but all standing in the LP in 2019 had to campaign for the LP as was at the time.

As soon as we got the chance to elect a new leader we went for Starmer's politics.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 27-May-24 13:15:01

I voted Labour and for Corbyn, because it was clear as daylight to me what would happened if Johnson became prime minister - and so it proved to be - in fact worse than I thought.

I voted for Starmer as the new leader.

LizzieDrip Mon 27-May-24 13:40:48

Same here WW.

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 27-May-24 13:49:03

Aha! So you two are members of the LP.

Wyllow3 Mon 27-May-24 13:52:00

and therefore.....?

LizzieDrip Mon 27-May-24 14:10:47

Yes GSM, I’ve posted on GN before about being a member of the LP. It’s not a secret - I’m out and proudgrin

Whitewavemark2 Mon 27-May-24 14:12:47

Not at the moment - aha!

But am thinking of offering my support with subs and perhaps help.

I prefer to give money to worthy causes.
