Breaking news, just now.

Have yet to meet a politician playing the short game.

Although, based on his exploits so far this week, Ed Davey may be trying it tomorrow.

Casdon 🤣

So he’s looking for a safe seat!
Me, cynical?

Yeah, he sure is 🤬I think Starmer should tell him to take a hike.

I agree with the posters who suggest Diane Abbot is being used exploited and manipulated by ‘the left’, by which I mean momentum. Kinnock threw Militant out of the party, in style, his rage about a Labour council delivering redundancy notices by taxi was a glory
Corbyn let Momentum run riot, the electorate rejected it
Starmer is fighting a quieter battle with the Momentum remnants. Abbot would I suspect have gone with dignity if she hadn’t been swept up in the excitement of a battle with Starmer
These activists accuse Starmer of being a control freak. Talk about Projection. Give me Starmer’s strength honesty and dignity any day over these Trots.

👍🏻

I wish she’d get back on Corbyns motorbike and take another trip round Cuba😈

^1. There was no begging^

2. Many communities prefer single sex arrangements. Orthodox Jews for example.

She was basically pleading for their votes and you know very little about Orthodox Jews and, in any case, there are very few of them in the UK. Jews in general come to that!

The figures in the UK are even more striking. About 80,000 charedi Jews live in the country, constituting about one in four of the whole. In fact, charedi Jews comprise a larger fraction of the total Jewish population in the UK than in any other country in the world, bar Belgium. And by 2040, the proportion here will be closer to one in three.

Oreo Thu 30-May-24 22:01:24

So what? Do you know how small the Jewish population is in the UK?
Compare the numbers with how many Muslims there are in the UK.

Iam I was at that party conference 1985 , Eric Hefner, Derek
Hatton

Primrose53 Thu 30-May-24 22:44:49

Just seen her on news. She is holding a microphone and it is shaking like mad as she speaks. Wondering if she has Parkinsons.

NotSpaghetti Thu 30-May-24 22:59:12

I haven't seen this but I think I would shake if I was under her level of pressure.
😕

Anniebach Thu 30-May-24 23:17:12

Surely MP’s are use to pressure

DiamondLily Fri 31-May-24 08:14:23

I don’t think she’s well, but the decision is now down to the NEC, who have to make a decision, according to the news on radio.

Anniebach Fri 31-May-24 08:42:22

As she is diabetic quite possibly her sugar levels wobbled

Iam64 Fri 31-May-24 08:51:18

The shaking was much more than anxiety. DA has health problems and doesn’t seem fit enough to work as an MP/.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 31-May-24 09:10:53

The prospective labour candidate for Chingford & Woodford Green has been banned for standing.

Faiza Shaheen allegedly liked anti-Semitic posts on X

Labour issues regarding candidates is rather messy, along with Lloyd Russell-Moyle that makes two who are barred from standing and one (DA) who nobody seems to know if she has been barred or not…

NotSpaghetti Fri 31-May-24 09:11:31

Iam and Anniebach, I didn't see it.
I did know she has had problems before with her diabetes.
I hope she's OK.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 31-May-24 09:23:18

I wish DA well, and hope that she makes a decision that is right for her, and her health.

Shaheen did like anti semetic posts not allegedly, her explanation it was in the night and she was breast feeding

maddyone Fri 31-May-24 10:14:26

I have noticed Diane Abbott shaking, and I wondered if she had the beginnings of Parkinson’s Disease. I certainly hope not, as I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.
I still think she’s unfit (health wise) to stand for parliament again.

Is that an excuse for her, If we are not careful even more Jewish people will feel under threat if the likes if her and Abbott are allowed to stand.
Not something many people will be happy about if they have any sense.

Anniebach Fri 31-May-24 10:24:55

She said so in an interview on SKY last night.

Glorianny Fri 31-May-24 11:19:48

Diane Abbott should of course have been permitted to stand as a Labour candidate. The rumour is that she was planning to resign anyway. If she had been allowed to stand and had declined because of her ill health Starmer would have had a wonderful PR opportunity. There would have been huge amounts of publicity about her and her outstanding career. He could have congratulated her and recognised her achievements. She could have retired gracefully.
Instead it's turned into a complete farce.

Anniebach Fri 31-May-24 11:26:31

Abbott retire gracefully?

She was never "unpermitted" to stand. We would have heard about that when it happened.

It was the Times MSM article who stirred it up that she was banned and then came the reaction.

Guess is everyone was expecting an autumn election and the NEC and Abbott herself hadn't taken any steps as to her standing

Absolutely Wyllow. All this about her being barred is currently a moot point because no decision has yet been taken. All this hoo ha was deliberately caused by the Times article, saying their info had come from ‘a source’ within the Labour Party. OK Times, name the source then - no? thought so! I don’t believe a word written or spoken by MSM - everything they print & say has some agenda behind it. Charlatans, the lot of ‘em!
