Breaking news, just now.

I wish she’d get back on Corbyns motorbike and take another trip round Cuba😈

I agree with the posters who suggest Diane Abbot is being used exploited and manipulated by ‘the left’, by which I mean momentum. Kinnock threw Militant out of the party, in style, his rage about a Labour council delivering redundancy notices by taxi was a glory
Corbyn let Momentum run riot, the electorate rejected it
Starmer is fighting a quieter battle with the Momentum remnants. Abbot would I suspect have gone with dignity if she hadn’t been swept up in the excitement of a battle with Starmer
These activists accuse Starmer of being a control freak. Talk about Projection. Give me Starmer’s strength honesty and dignity any day over these Trots.

👍🏻

So he’s looking for a safe seat!
Me, cynical?

Yeah, he sure is 🤬I think Starmer should tell him to take a hike.

Casdon 🤣

Have yet to meet a politician playing the short game.

Although, based on his exploits so far this week, Ed Davey may be trying it tomorrow.

She’s looking after herself and planning the long game

Urms do you really think AR made her comment today without having spoken with KS about what she was going to say? There’s no rift between AR & KS. They’re both on the same page - victory for Labour!

Wyllow3 Thu 30-May-24 20:20:08

You can be from a whole variety of LP views and decide to let DA stand.

Urmstongran Thu 30-May-24 20:04:33

Oh yes I agree IAm. But you have to admire Rayner. She’s looking after herself and planning the long game.

LizzieDrip Thu 30-May-24 20:01:45

I’d be saying let DA stand. She’ll step down before long. Choose your battles ( a but like parenting 😁

Agreed Iam64.

LizzieDrip Thu 30-May-24 19:58:26

I agree with comments about DA looking unwell and the Labour leadership were offering her a dignified way out. In other words, they were considering her well-being far more than her so-called friends & allies in Momentum were. She appears to be caught between the far left of Labour with an axe to grind and the far right MSM who want to screw Labour’s campaign. Both are using her for their own ends. Very unsavoury!

Iam64 Thu 30-May-24 19:51:48

Maybe so Urmston but I do believe if I was in AR shoes, or advising Starmer, I’d be saying let DA stand. She’ll step down before long. Choose your battles ( a but like parenting 😁

As an aside - Thought Wes Streeting was the more sensible of the Labour lot (NHS visionary?), however following his accusations that anyone supporting Susan Hall was a racist and a fascist, for which I believe he should be charged he is now throwing his hat in with the extreme left of the party, I’ve had to revise my opinion.

Urmstongran Thu 30-May-24 19:45:13

Rayner is a canny operator. Politically expedient to support Diane Abbott and appease Momentum. Kudos to her - a foot in both camps.

I suspect he’s happy to return to the world of business. I’m not convinced he ever lived in Bolton . One of his selling points to this once proud King Cotton but now lacking employment opportunities -was the fact he speaks Mandarin Chinese

Iam64 Thu 30-May-24 19:35:14

Another yes Casdon

Wyllow3 Thu 30-May-24 19:24:32

Yes, Casdon and Pantglas.

Pantglas2 Thu 30-May-24 19:08:52

I suspect from watching her recently she’s unwell and doesn’t need more unkindness from her own party or anyone else!

I’m beginning to wonder if Diane Abbott is being used by the activists on the far left to make trouble, which would be very unkind if she was in the process of negotiating a deal to retire which hadn’t concluded

Casdon I’m beginning to think the same thing myself. It’s all looking a bit sad.

I'm sure she is being used and old grudges contribute. Greatly enhanced by MSM in this case.

However several key figures including Angela Raynor and Yvette Cooper and Wes Streeting have indicated in various ways she "should be able to be an MP". And praise and credit given, where its due, to Abbott.

However they have not said how/or the process. The Telegraph today is signalling "terrible rift blah blah between Raynor and Starmer". Which its not, its being handled very carefully.

I suspect a lot behind the scenes.

No one is trying to get rid of a candidate because of being black, just look at the alternative LP candidates in Abbotts seat.

Has to be decided by Tuesday at the latest I believe.

I don’t think there’s a rift between Starmer and Rayner, I think the shadow cabinet members are trying, as kindly as they can, to say that Abbott has jumped the gun, and that she would have got the chance to stand as a Labour candidate and say herself that she had decided to retire. I think they feel sorry for her, as we do.

Wyllow3 Thu 30-May-24 18:59:07

I can see that being a likely outcome.

Iam64 Thu 30-May-24 18:49:30

I think the easiest / least worse option is to let Abbot stand. She is unwell and can retire when ready. Avoid unnecessary conflict - tho I do believe she’s being used

Iam64 Thu 30-May-24 18:47:37

Mark Logan won his majority of 400 in Bolton NE, courtesy of Corbyn. NE had an excellent Labour mp but anyone canvassing or listening to chat in supermarket queues will tell you - trust of yon mon non existent. I’s never vote Labour with yon mon in charge they said
