Breaking news, just now.

Iam64 Fri 31-May-24 19:45:48

Thanks Annie, I thought that’s what you meant. Starmer flip flop is the desperate cry of a dying government.
Mrs T famously wasn’t for turning, obdurate, single minded and lacking compassion
Starmer isn’t weak and accusing him of flip flopping is pathetic

Anniebach Fri 31-May-24 19:40:05

Sorry Iam, a split between Starmer and Rayner. Starmer flip
flop again. Rayner is strong Starmer is weak.

SKY news, split between Starmer and Rayner

Annie. I’ve not seen Sky news. Do you mean they’re split in support of either `Starmer or Rayner or more likely they’re suggesting a split between the leader and his deputy. I heard a commentator earlier suggesting “Rayner wears the trousers ‘,in their relationship.
Ridiculous, my impression is they’ve developed a good working relationship.
Also - has anyone met a QC who can be pushed around ?

MayBee70 Fri 31-May-24 19:24:04

Sky News seems to be trying to find anything negative the can about Labour at the moment.

Of course ‘the left’ are joining ‘the right’ in criticising Starmer. The rest of us can see this was indeed a storm started by The Times and fed by Dianne and momentum. I’m pleased Angela Rayner spoke out and that Starmer kept it as calm as possible,
Fuss about not much at all
Except - really, our first black female and Labour mp writes a letter to the Observer which anyone could see crossed so many lines. She must have read, re-read, even got friends to glance over, then ping, she sends it. She’s sent on one of those diversity courses (on line!?) apologises and the whip is restored.
My affection and respect for our first black female mp. Someone who gave her life to public service stands. But do I believe a diversity course has resolved her approach to the oppression of groups she sees as less oppressed - nope

Anniebach Fri 31-May-24 18:59:19

I think she will be the oldest serving when Parliament returns

MayBee70 Fri 31-May-24 18:45:08

Aaron Bell struck me as a pretty decent bloke. Remember writing to him when he spoke out in the Owen Patterson affair, which was very brave of him as a new MP. The Conservative Party can’t afford to lose people like him.

varian Fri 31-May-24 18:45:04

Why should she not be "The Mother of The House" if she is the longest serving female MP?

I disagree with her about a lot of things but I do think she deserves some respect.

Allsorts Fri 31-May-24 18:34:26

Oh my goodness

Anniebach Fri 31-May-24 18:31:28

Abbott if she stands will be mother of the house

eazybee Fri 31-May-24 18:25:26

Amazing.
It was all a Tory plot!

Wyllow3 Fri 31-May-24 18:18:43

I dont know why we are focusing just on "L Party troubled times:

I'd forgotten about Julian Knight but the press haven't

Julian Knight has appeared in the Telegraph

The Mail alludes to Aaron Bell too who has pulled out

All a storm in a Labour teacup then. 😁

More a storm in Abbott and the right wing press teacups….😉

A media created storm Urmstongran with a 70 year old woman who isn’t at the top of her game any more at the centre of it. I hope that they feel ashamed, and that she can reach a place where she is happy with her lot.

I agree she may not be at the top of her game however she is in politics, a long serving MP and one who intends to stand for re-election.

To coin a phrase ^if you cannot stand the heat, get out of the kitchen^

I think she wants to GrannyGravy13, whatever she is being manipulated to say. She’s the last man standing for the Momentum movement, and that’s a tough call for anybody, let alone somebody who is not well.

Editor of Tribune, Starmer forced to back down by Abbott’s defiance

Meanwhile one of the Tory equivalents in a position of limbo whilst being investigated slips out under the radar.

There can’t be too many unresolved cases left where we don’t know if they are standing or not now.

Abbott only moved from the back benches when Corbyn was leader then she was shadow Home Secretary and shadow secretary for health

Grantanow Fri 31-May-24 17:31:29

She never was banned and Starmer has simply made explicit that she can stand. There never was a story but the Tory press talked it up and she has got publicity from it.

Casdon Fri 31-May-24 17:30:19

This debacle certainly has flushed out those who are disloyal to Starmer, and this is before the election, when one would expect all members would pull together.

Who are you thinking of eazybee?

maddyone Fri 31-May-24 17:22:25

I expect she’ll stand and be elected, but I very much doubt she’ll be sitting on the front bench. I think she’s cooked her goose with this debacle. Given her probable ill health, it would be more dignified now to stand down and retire. In my opinion.
